Honey-Themed Dessert Board

Hi friends! How is your summer so far? One of my favorite things about Summer is gathering out on our patio on summer evenings. I shared our honey-themed dinner party yesterday but I thought it would be fun to share a little tutorial on how I created the honey-themed dessert board and the DIY pretzel bees!

How to Make a Dessert Board

I love creating charcuterie and dessert boards. They are the ultimate party food because they allow guests to graze and chat while eating their favorite savory or sweet items. I’ve made quite a few over the past few year and I will link to those at the bottom of this post. The secret to creating a beautiful dessert board is LAYERING.

What Order to Layer Items on a Dessert Board?

After creating so many dessert and charcuterie boards I have learned the easiest way to layer items for the best effect. Here’s what I’ve found:

• First, put any dishes on the board. I like to gather small items, dips or liquid items in small round bowls.
• If you only have one bowl, I usually will put it in the middle of the board. If you have several bowls, I like to space them around the board.
• Next, layer larger items around the bowls. It looks nice to layer larger items like cookies, or apples around the bowls in a circle, instead of laying everything out in rows.
• Layer any other large items on the board. I do layer some large items in rows to break up the board a little.
• Once the larger layers are on the board, fill in the gaps with small items like berries or candies until the whole board is filled in.
• The last thing I do is add some greenery or edible flowers to the board.

Items to Add to a Sweet Dessert Board

Here are some suggestions of items for a sweet dessert board! Of course, you can pick and choose which items you want for your board. These are just suggestions of items that would be nice for a dessert board.

• Cookies – different shapes, colors and sizes.
• Graham crackers
• Chocolates- different sizes and shapes to fill in the board or to group in small bowls.
• Fruits – small berries like raspberries, strawberries, backberries, peach and apple slices to layer in rows.
• Honey or sweet dips.
• white and/or chocolate pretzes.
• Mint or edible flowers for garnishes.
• Sliced cheeses.
• Pretzel Bees. (tutorial below)

How to make pretzel bees for a summer dessert board or bee-theme party

Course Dessert

Prep Time 15 minutes minutes

Servings 24

Ingredients

• 1 package white yogurt pretzels
• 1 cup white dipping chocolate
• 1 cup milk chocolate or dark chocolate dipping chocolate
• 1 package edible googly eyes
• 6 drops yellow food coloring

Instructions

• Melt white dipping chocolate. In microwave melt chocolate at 10 second intervals on medium heat, stirring until chocolate is melted. Add 6 drops of yellow food coloring.
• Lay pretzels on wax paper. Dip pretzels in yellow chocolate and lay them back on the wax paper. Use a small paintbrush to smooth the chocolate. Let cool.
• In small bowl, melt dark chocolate using the same melting directions as above.
• Dip a fork in the dark chocolate. Drizzle chocolate evenly over the pretzels. Let cool.
• Dip each pretzel in the chocolate. Dip the round section of the pretzel and lay back down on wax paper. Add 2 googly eyes to the dark chocolate section of the pretzel.

Creating a beautiful bullet journal starts with the right supplies. Here are some essentials to gather before you begin:

• Journal: Choose a notebook with thick, high-quality paper that can handle drawing, painting, and other creative touches. This will prevent ink or paint from bleeding through the pages.
• Pens and Markers: Use fine-tip pens for writing and markers for decorative accents.
• Watercolor Paints: I found the most stunning metallic watercolor paints at Hobby Lobby—they add such a magical touch to every page.

How to Create a Bullet Journal

Cover Page

Start with a beautiful cover page to set the tone for your journal. I drew the year “2025” in bold numbers and added a delicate bow for a whimsical touch. Feel free to let your creativity shine by using metallic watercolors or adding stickers and embellishments. This design was inspired by Brigid Carey Creates.

First Page: Introduction

On the first page, include a photo of yourself taken on January 1st with your journal. This is a special way to mark the beginning of your 2025 journey.

Recap of 2024

Dedicate a page to reflecting on the past year. I created a spread to list my all-time favorite things, including songs, colors, activities, and food. On the next page, I highlighted my favorite things from 2024, such as TV shows, products (like my beloved Buxom lip gloss), and favorite places to shop. ATF page inspired by Bling Bling on Pinterest.

Goals for 2025

The next two pages are for setting goals. I added a big bow at the top and watercolored it for an extra splash of color. Write down your aspirations and dreams for the new year to keep yourself motivated.

Memories from 2024

Reflect on your achievements and growth from the past year. I included prompts like “What did I achieve?” and “How did I change from 2024 to 2025?” Decorate this spread with drawings or watercolors to make it visually appealing.

Books to Read

Create a page dedicated to your 2025 reading list. I painted books and listed titles I want to read throughout the year. This is a fun way to stay on top of your reading goals.

January Inspiration

For January, I painted cozy illustrations like a fireplace, tea, and blankets. This page captures the essence of my intentions for the month: relaxation, self-care, and productivity.

Intentions for 2025

On the next two pages, write down your intentions for the year. I added boxes beneath each intention to expand on specific goals and plans.

Monthly Introduction

Start each month with a decorative page. For January, I used a fireworks theme to celebrate the new year. Add tabs to the edges of the pages for easy navigation between months. The January layout was inspired by @bulletwithe.

Daily Boxes

Design a spread for daily entries. I drew boxes for each day of January and decorated the first two pages with a disco ball, the next two with trees, and the last two with a forest theme. The disco ball image was inspired by @erikabeeswax.

These daily boxes are perfect for jotting down quick notes or highlights from each day.

Monthly Wrap-Up

End each month with a summary page. For January, I included sections for books I read, home projects, favorite movies, songs, and TV shows. This is a fun way to reflect on your month and document your favorite moments.

Year-End Reflection

Reserve the back of your journal for a 2025 wrap-up. This space is perfect for reflecting on your growth and accomplishments, adding memorabilia, and celebrating the year’s highlights.

One of my favorite things about bullet journals is how they double as a scrapbook. Even if you don’t have time to write lengthy journal entries throughout the year, you can still document your life by adding receipts, photos, and other keepsakes. This transforms your journal into a beautiful, tangible memory book.

5 Ways to Declutter Your Home!

It was SO nice to go through my home and clean it up for the new year! I’ve compiled 5 easy ways you can de-clutter YOUR home!

Declutter and Cleaning Challenge

Be sure to join us in our Declutter and Cleaning challenge where we tackle ONE area of our home each day and by the end of January we have a clean and organized home!

1. Craft Room Storage

If you have a craft room consider organizing the closet of your room to keep all of your supplies. I took an inexpensive shelving unit from Target and added bins. Each bin is labeled with different craft supplies – paints, tools, party supplies, yarn, ribbon, etc. If you don’t have a closet in your craft space, consider getting a little shelf unit with doors to keep your supplies inside. You can grab the supplies you need and shut the doors for a clean look. Or you might live in a home that is smaller and you don’t have a dedicated craft space. I have a solution for you – a craft cart! Rolling carts are a wonderful way to organize. You can put your supplies on the cart to store them. When you want to craft, simply roll the cart into whatever room you want to work from!

2. A labeler is a great tool to get your whole house organized

The labeler I use is cordless which is so nice because you can get up into hard-to-reach places with it like your attic or garage and you don’t have to worry about plugging it in. Labeling everything makes finding items so much easier.

3. I keep all of my seasonal supplies and decorations in plastic bins

Plastic bins will keep all of your storage dry and the bins are easily stacked which makes your storage areas much neater and easier to navigate. I label each of my plastic bins with a printable label that I print off on my computer.  It’s so nice to easily see what is in your containers.

4. Organize Seasonal Items

As a DIY/Crafter I LOVE pillows. I ended up having TONS of pillows. You can see the before picture of my pillow closet below. If you have a lot of pillows and not enough room to store them all I have an idea for you. Take all of your pillow covers off of the inserts. You may find that you have many of the same size insert. You can donate your extra insert pillow forms and use one pillow form. Then when you want a different look, just take the cover off your pillow insert and put the new one on. I took all of my pillow covers and folded them up and organized them in a bin by color. Now I can easily see what pillow covers I have and my pillows don’t take up as much space! I store my pillow inserts in a bins and it’s easy to access them.

5. Store all seasonal items in the same place

Metal racks are an easy way to keep seasonal containers. I keep all of my seasonal bins in a storage room with these racks. I use the printable bin template to print off what is in each bin so I can easily access them. All of my seasonal items are kept together – Christmas, Halloween, etc. Then when I am decorating for a specific holiday or event all I have to do is grab the bins with those labels, instead of rummaging around in my storage room for the bins that go together.

This year I decided to make giant snowflakes out of popsicle sticks. I love how graphic and modern they are. Plus, you can create different snowflake patterns. It’s the perfect winter craft to make with your kids! Here’s the easy DIY:

Popsicle Sticks

Popsicle Stick Snowflake Wreath Tutorial

Decide on a Snowflake Pattern

Draw or print out a copy of a snowflake pattern. I found some snowflake patterns online and printed it out.

Lay out Popsicle Sticks

1. Lay the three long lines in the snowflake.
2. Then lay out the star in the center.
3. Cut 6 popsicle sticks in half to add the small pieces at the ends.

Glue the Popsicle Sticks Together

Start at the center of the snowflake. Overlap the sticks at the center and glue well. Then glue the rest of the sticks together as you have it laid out. 

Add the Circles at the Intersections

I added circles at where the popsicle sticks overlapped and at the ends of the snowflake edges.

Spray Paint the Snowflake

This is optional. You can also stain it!

Add a Ribbon and Hang it Up!

Tie a ribbon to the top of the snowflake and hang it on your door or wall. It’s cute inside or outside.

I added a couple of Snowflake Pillows and hung my Popsicle Stick Snowflake Wreath on my front porch. I love it!

This year we are switching things up a little bit. Instead of taking one space a day all over the house, we are concentrating on one area each week and cleaning those areas instead of jumping around. The first week is the kitchen, then we are moving on to bathrooms, then main rooms in the home, then bedrooms and closets and general cleaning the last few days. Sparkly Silver and Gold New Years Eve Party Ideas. DIY a glittering New Year’s Eve with a sequin ‘CHEERS’ sign, a silver and gold table runner, and a festive buffet.

Sparkly Silver and Gold New Years Eve Party Ideas

Hobby Lobby is my crafting haven, and with New Year’s Eve just around the corner, it’s the ideal place to turn ordinary moments into extraordinary memories. This year, I decided to bring the sparkle to my NYE home celebration with a touch of silver and gold. Hobby Lobby’s array of festive goodies made it a breeze to create a dazzling NYE party atmosphere. From disco ball ornaments to glamorous fabrics, Hobby Lobby had everything I needed to turn my space into a glittering wonderland. Direct inks to the products I used are at the bottom of the post

Craft a”CHEERS” Sign with Gold Sequin Fabric

One of my favorite projects for the party was crafting a giant “CHEERS” sign using Hobby Lobby’s 16-inch paper mâché letters. To give it that extra dose of glam, I chose the prettiest gold sequin fabric to cover the letters. Here’s a quick guide on how I achieved a seamless finish:

How to Cover Paper mâché Letters with Sequin Fabric:

1. Cut a piece of material that covers the letters with 5 inches on each side.
2. Cut a length of material that matches the inside of the letters (in this case, 2 inches). Attach the 2-inch strips of fabric to the inside of the letters with hot glue.
3. Lay the fabric over the top of the letter and hot glue it in place.
4. Make a cut in the middle of any openings, and at the end of the cut, make two 45-degree cuts about 3 inches away from the side of the letter.
5. Flip the letter upside down and hot glue the edges of the fabric onto the back side of the letter.
6. The edges with 45-degree cuts will have gaps; use hot glue to adhere those edges to the fabric on the sides.
7. Hang up your sparkling letters and let the celebration begin!

Create a Glamorous Silver and Gold Centerpiece

For the table runner, I wanted to make a statement. Here’s how I layered the elements to create a glamorous setting:

1. Lay the gold sequin fabric on the table as the base.
2. Add white feather boas for a touch of luxury.
3. Lay two disco ball light-up garlands on top of the boas.
4. In the center, place two large disco balls and three smaller disco balls for a dazzling centerpiece.
5. Add sequin curly picks emanating from the center of the disco ball arrangement.
6. Optionally, scatter votives for a warm and inviting glow.

Set Up a Silver and Gold “CHEERS” Buffet

Now, let’s talk about the buffet. Here’s how I transformed it into a festive spread:

1. Hang two iridescent doorway party garlands behind the buffet, secured with small nails or thumbtacks.
2. Use command strips to hang the “CHEER” letters on the wall above the buffet.
3. Incorporate disco ball picks on top of cupcakes to echo the theme.
4. Enhance the backdrop with the same disco ball light-up garland, along with pine branches for a natural touch. I love the way the disco ball garland shines the light up and illuminates the iridescent fringe garland above!
5. Draw a clock on top of a cake using black icing.
6. Put party hats and horns on a cake plate for a beautiful display and easy access.

Everything I used for these fabulous setups is readily available at Hobby Lobby. From disco ball ornaments to light-up garlands, you’ll find all the supplies you need to make your New Year’s Eve celebration truly unforgettable.

Holiday Evergreen Disco Ball Wreath

Hi, friends!! Are you getting excited for the holidays? I love decorating our home and getting it ready for festivities. One of my favorite things to do is creating a special wreath for the holidays! One of my VERY favorite things are disco balls. They remind me of my childhood and love of roller skating. Over the summer I shared a DIY Disco Ball Planter and I loved the way it sparkled in the sunshine! So this year I thought DISCO BALLS would be such a fun theme for the holidays!

Turn Disco Ball Ornaments into a Beautiful Holiday Wreath

I love the way the many mirrored squares on disco balls reflect the light! When the light hits this wreath, it reflects the light and all of those pinpoints of lights are so beautiful and happy! I think it is such a beautiful ideas for the holidays.

Where Can I Find Disco Balls?

You can find disco balls in a few different places. I have compiled some below if you want to make this wreath!

• Disco ball 2-inch ornaments (this is the size I used for this wreath)
• Disco ball 4-inch ornaments (you can use a bigger size ball and use less of them for a bolder look)
• Disco ball 8-inch ornaments (use this larger size if you want to display one large disco ball in the center of the wreath. I also used this size to make the disco ball planter)
• Disco ball light up garland (these disco balls are connected and look amazing on a mantel or as a centerpiece)
• Large 12-inch disco ball (this size looks so great hanging from the center of a room or in a window to reflect the light.

How to Make a Holiday Evergreen Disco Ball Wreath

This wreath seriously takes about 15 minutes to make. So easy! Here is how to make it!

Holiday Evergreen Disco Ball Wreath Supplies

Here are the supplies to make a Holiday Evergreen Wreath:

• Wreath form – This wreath is most similar to mine. And here are some wreath forms that will work for this wreath.
• Disco Balls (I used 2-inch ornaments)
• Ribbon – you can use any color you want!
• Macrame Cord – to tie the ornaments to the wreath.
• Jump Rings – you might not need these but if you are using wide cord it makes it easier to string the cord through the jump ring which is attached to the top of the ornament.
• Super Glue – (optional) I added a drop of super glue to the ends of the cords holding the disco balls so they won’t unravel.

Holiday Evergreen Disco Ball Wreath Directions

Here’s how to make this easy, festive disco ball wreath!

• If your wreath doesn’t have twine at the top, take a 30-inch length of macrame cord and wrap it around the top of the wreath and tie it at the back side of the wreath.
• Attach a 10-inch length of macrame cord to the top of the wreath. I slipped the cord under the cord at the top of the wreath. But you can hot glue it to the front of the cord if you want. Leave the ends of the cord loose.
• Cut 4 lengths of 20 inch macrame cord. Loop the cord through the 10-inch length of cord. Tie the 10-inch cords to the middle of the 4 lengths and tie in a knot.
• You should have 10 lengths of cord not that is attached to the top of the wreath and hanging in the middle of the wreath.
• Lay the disco balls inside the wreath and see how long you want each disco ball to hang. I staggered mine from the very top of the wreath all the way through the middle and the last disco ball hangs just below the bottom of the center of the wreath.
• If you are using thick cord, add jump rings to the top of each ornament.
• Tie each disco ball with one of the ends of the macrame cord. Start at the top and work your way down.
• Thread macrame cord through the jump ring and double knot the cord. Cut the cord as close to the top of the knot as possible.
• I used a dot of hot glue to secure the knot.
• Once all disco balls are attached, cut your ribbon.
• I used three lengths of 48-inch ribbon and tied a bow at the top. Then I hot glued the ribbon to the top of the cords to cover up where they are attached at the top fo the wreath.

I added my wreath to my mantel but I plan on putting it on my porch and making a garland that goes around my front door with live evergreen branches and disco balls. I love the way the disco balls look in the sunshine. It’s so happy and bright!!

Things I Love This Week – January

Hello friends! Happy weekend. What are you up to? We had a fun date night last night and I spent Saturday working on a few areas of our home for the Declutter Challenge! It’s hard work but I love how our home feels when things get organized and cleaned out. I completely cleaned out of linen closet and I can’t wait to share it this week!

It’s one of my favorite traditions. I love spending the day making LOTS of appetizers, finger-foods and desserts. We play board games, video games, have a little photo booth and enjoy spending time together. Over the years I’ve compiled some of my favorite New Year’s Eve traditions, activities, food and ideas and I thought I would share it with you! Here are a few. I will share a few more tomorrow too!

One of the best part about spending New Year’s Eve at home with the family are recording the fun times. I usually make a simple photo backdrop where we can use our phones to snap a few photos. Here is an easy one with paper stars.

Everything seems a little more festive with a pretty table to display all of that delicious food! I always enjoy fresh greenery. This is an idea where I used some basic Ikea pieces and showed how to use them throughout the holidays – Thanksgiving, Christmas AND New Years. The linens and pieces are neutral so you can really use them all year long!

New Year’s Eve Tablescape 

7-Layer Dip is probably our favorite dip. Of course we love the traditional Mexican 7-layer dip, but a few years ago I experimented with an Italian dip using pesto, artichoke hearts, tomatoes and cheese and it has become one of our favorites. And everything is cuter when you make smaller sizes so we put them in glasses. To make things even EASIER use plastic, clear cups which are disposable!

Party hats are a MUST for New Year’s Eve. This is a fun idea where your guests can use chalkboard pens to write their own message on their hat. Ring in the new year with your favorite saying and record the fun in your easy photo booth.

My grandma loved baking and she was a wonderful cook! One of my favorite memories growing up was walking into her home and smelling butter and onions on the stove as she made piergois. It’s our ALWAYS traditional New Year’s Eve party food.

I had fun this year with my Instant Pot. I love how FAST you can create almost any type of food. This is a hearty buffalo chicken dip. It’s creamy, cheesy and spicy – the perfect combination in my opinion. And the best part is how easy it is to create. I even used frozen chicken breasts in this recipe and it still was done in under a half an hour.

One of the best parts of celebrating New Year’s Eve is thinking back on the past year and looking ahead. I think it’s a great tradition with kids to help them think of achievable resolutions to work on in the coming year. This is a fun way to do it!

Welcome Home Weekend

Hi, friends! How is your January going?? It’s been a busy week around here. I’ve been organizing like crazy while taking care of my sick kitten! On Sunday we took her into the emergency vet where she was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection. I’ve been giving her antibiotics and hand-feeding and giving her water in a syringe. But her fever is gone and I think she is making progress!
