I love this time of year!! It’s so fun decorating our home. I love bright colors and pom poms. I thought it would be fun to combine the two by creating some whimsical holiday trees for our mantel or entryway table.

Here’s how I made the trees:

Supplies:

Different sizes of cones

fabric – I used four different fat quarters

hot glue and glue gun

pom poms (the amount you need depends on how many time you want to wrap them around the cones)

Candlesticks or wood bases to put the cones on.

Directions:

*I used some cones I bought at the craft store. But you can also use styrofoam cones too.

*I originally wrapped the cones in white material because I was going to have them all be white with different colors of poms. But then I decided to wrap them all in different colors of material.

*I used fat quarters for the material. I held the edge of the material against the cone and rolled it with the material rolling too and traced the outline of the cone.

*Then I cut out the fabric in that shape, I cut the fabric a little bigger at the bottom so I could fold it under the cones.

*Then I ran a line of hot glue down one side of each cone, attached the edge of the fabric, wrapped the fabric around and ran another line down the back to join the two sides of the fabric together.

*I folded the fabric under the cones and hot glued underneath.

*Then I took the four colors of pom poms and attached them to the cones.

*I alternated how I spaced out the rows of pom poms. On some trees I spaced the rows out – 2 inches, 3 inches and 4 inches. I marked the increments with a ruler and pencil.

*On the back side of each cone, where the fabric met, I put a dab of hot glue and then attached the end of the pom pom string, I wrapped the string around the base of the tree until it met at the back of the tree. I cut the string and then started again where the next mark was.

*Then I set the cone on a candlestick. Since I used cones that are hollow, I put the empty spools from the pom pom inside of the cones to make a base. If you are using styrofoam cones, they already have bases so you won’t have to do that.

I just love these happy little trees!

And I also made a pom pom wreath with the left over fabric from the fat quarters and pom poms. I will share the tutorial soon!

I am not familiar with “fat quarters”. Do you find them at fabric stores or Michaels? Darling fun colors. Love the pompoms.
