7 Spring Front Porch Ideas

Hi, friends! Raise your hand if you’re ready for warm weather and spring period spring is one of my favorite Seasons here in Utah because everything’s in blue and the weather is still nice and not too warm. one of my favorite things to do is decorate our front porch period today I’m sharing some of my favorite DIY ideas that make it so easy to create a welcoming front door and porch.

Spring Succulent Porch

A couple years ago I created one of my very favorite front porches. It had a succulent theme and I love how bright and colorful it was! Here are some simple ways that I brought this fun feeling to our succulent porch:

• A bright rug: brings color onto the porch and really grounds the whole Space.
• Thrifted ladder: I found this colorful turquoise ladder at a thrift store and thought it would be perfect to Potted plants. I used to White pots to make them all uniform and place them on the ladder rungs.
• Basket wreath: instead of a traditional wreath I went with a basket wreath and then I filled it with pho peonies and branches plus a hot pink ribbon which really tied in with my pink and yellow rug.
• Vintage door: at the store leftover from our remodeling projects at the 1891 Cottage, and I thought it would be nice to add a little architectural interest to the porch. I put the antique door behind a ladder and I think it’s kind of showcases the succulent ladder and a great way.

Spring Butterfly Porch

Another year I created a colorful spring porch with many Floral elements. Here’s how I created this a colorful spring porch:

• Butterfly wreath: I took a wreatha I already had and added some paper butterflies that I cut out of my paper line with American crafts. I added a fabric Banner to the middle that says quotation mark spread your wings and fly quotation mark.
• I mimicked the flowers and Greenery of the wreath by using a faux flower Garland around my door. I love the way that it really brings spring to our front door.
• Layered doormats: my friends at nickel designs gifted me this beautiful graphic leaf doormat which I layered with one of their black and white bohemian cotton rugs underneath.
• Add a spring sign: I found this hello sign with white florals at Hobby Lobby and I thought it looked really great with the graphic entryway rug.
• I added pops of color with flowers. Faux flowers in a white wooden planter on one side of the porch balance out the pink peonies that are in the galvanized container which I placed on an antique chair for a statement.

Bohemian Spring Porch

I love a boho look. This year I created a really bohemian-themed spring front porch with some really easy natural elements and pink accents that reflect the pink on our front door. Here’s how I created this Bohemian spring porch:

• A oversized natural rug really grounds the space. An extra large rug expands the space and makes it more welcoming.
• Olive Tree: I wanted to add height to this porch so I brought my olive tree outside and put it in this adorable scalloped basket container.
• Olive garland: Continue the olive theme around my front door with a couple Olive garlands that I found on clearance. I think the Olive Tree brings the eye up and then it continues around the door with the Olive Garland.
• Natural wood lanterns: I added some natural wood lanterns to bring a glow to the porch at night.
• Bench and pillows: A farmhouse bench and bohemian pillows, a cozy pink throw create a welcoming space.
• Bohemian Furniture: on each side of the front door we have some beautiful bohemian furniture. Our Serena and Lily swing is on the left hand side of the porch and the natural wood of the swing and the shape really looks so pretty with a Bohemian front door. On the other side of the porch is a sitting area where I put some rattan chairs..

Flower Market Spring Porch

I think spring is the perfect time to create a really beautiful flower-themed porch. Here’s how I created this flower market spring porch:

• Simple flower market wreath: I used to Greenery wreath and added Sharpie pen eggs. Eggs are just faux eggs that I had and I used Sharpie markers to color graphic designs on the pen and then I glued them on to the wreath. Faux flowers and a large black and white bow for the top, then I added the sign to the wreath.
• Layered entry rugs: I love layering rugs and for this front porch I used a “hi” rug and layered a classic black and white plaid rug underneath. I also layered a larger rug underneath those two rugs and really created a cozier space with larger rug that really draws people onto our porch.
• Galvanized flower containers: I brought color to this flower market wreath with a lot of flowers that I put inside these Flower Market galvanized containers. I like the way that the galvanized flower market containers coordinate with our larger planters that we keep out all year round.
• Flower market signs: Flower market signs on an antique chair with lowers.

Black and white succulent porch

This was our back porch but I thought it would be fun to talk about that for a minute. This is how I created this black and white succulent porch:

• Black and white checked rug: I used a very large black and white rug to ground the space and give it a little bit of softness.
• Pillows and throws: I think adding comfortable cushions, pillows and throws plus an ottoman here makes the space softer and lends itself more to using the space instead of just having a beautiful porch. I think a port should be used as well as being beautiful.
• Succulent hanging containers: team planters. I grouped them behind the chairs and table as a focal point. I also on a succulent wreath that I created: you can find the tutorial for the street here — a container succulent spring wreath.

Spring Kite Porch

This was the spring porch at my 1905 Cottage. It was small but this is one of my favorite porches that I have created. Here are some of my favorite projects from that flower pot porch:

I thought a kite-themed wreath was perfect for Spring. I cut out a kite shaped piece of wood, painted it and added it to the wreath. It’s a fun wreath for Spring!

Flower Pot Spring Porch

• Ladder with hanging pots: This DIY ladder was an Advent ladder originally. For a spring porch, spray painted the ladder White, and found these wooden buckets and put flowers inside and hung them from the rungs of my DIY ladder.
• Created a seating area: a small bench is perfect for a smaller porch. Just add pillows and you have an instant seating area.
• A watering can wreath: use a galvanized watering can as a wreath is a super simple way to create a cute and quirky wreath alternative for spring, Just add flowers inside the watering can and ribbon and you have an adorable wreath alternative.
• White lanterns: multiple white lanterns bring light and are pretty focal points for spring. It doesn’t matter if your lanterns are the same the white color connects them, and makes them look cohesive together.

French Spring Front Porch

This French spring front porch was also at my 1905 Cottage. I loved that Dutch store. Here’s how I created the spring French from porch:

• Flowers and crates: Potted flowers and Farmers Market crates in the flower bed in front and around the front door and the bistro set on the porch.
• A French bike in front: a French style bike with a basket looked so cute in front of my porch. I added flowers to the basket.
• Galvanized door hanger: are so easy to insert inside of a basket hanger for your door. This one was galvanized and I love seeing the flowers peeking out the top and cascading down the container.
• A French bistro set: this bistro set is vintage and I painted it yellow to match the Dutch store. Some striped pillows seem very Parisian and we had a little picnic on the porch for spring!

How to Make a GIANT Farmhouse Home Sign

If you’ve been following my blog for long you might know that I love making GIANT signs! It’s my favorite way to decorate for different seasons and holidays!

Use an Inexpensive Pine Shelf to Make a GIANT Farmhouse HOME Sign

The trick to this easy and inexpensive idea is to use unfinished pine shelves. You can get a 8 foot pine shelf for under $10.

The Hardware Store Can Cut the Board to Length

My hardware store cuts my boards for FREE! And I can usually get two big signs out of ONE board. So for just a few dollars I have a GIANT piece of wood to make a sign!

There are Many Different Ways to Make GIANT Signs

Once you have your board cut there are many different ways to personalize your board. You can cut out vinyl for one word like I did with this GIANT Valentine Subway Art Sign. I used three different types of vinyl on this sign. The pattern in the background, the white viyl and then the pink vinly on the LOVE overlay.

Another idea is using vinyl to create a stencil like I did with this GIANT Autumn sign. This was one of my first giant signs and I still use it every year on my porch!

You can also use paint to create a shape on the board like I did with this GIANT carrot sign! This sign was so easy to make. All I did was tape off the shape and paint the orange in. Then I aded some faux leaves behind and tied a bow around them!

I also use BIG letters on the boards to create sayings. I used big cardboard letters to create this HOME sign. I also used big letters when I created my Joy to the World Signs over the holidays! I added molding to the top and bottom of this sign. I used an embroidery hoop for the O in joy!

Use a Wreath to Create a Letter O for Your GIANT Farmhouse Sign

Instead of using all letters. I substituted a cute wreath for the O in HOME. I did the same thing with my Joy to the World Signs. I think the wreath really adds a homey and farmhouse element to the sign! You can get a similar wreath from Amazon (affiliate) Small Green Wreath.

Spray Paint Your GIANT Sign in Just Minutes

I love spray paint! It’s so much easier and faster than painting the board by hand. In just minutes I had spray painted my board black. I also used spray paint to paint the letters for my sign.

Hot Glue The Letters and Wreath Onto Your GIANT Farmhouse HOME Sign

I hot glued the letters and wreath to my board. But you can also use regular glue if you want.

Add Ribbon to Your GIANT Sign

I added a couple different ribbons to the board. One is a pretty scallop black and white ribbon and the other is aqua and matches the spray paint I used on the letters.

Make Any Saying You Want!

You can spell HOME like I did, but you can spell anything that you want! Your last name would be great. You can also spell WELCOME or HELLO!

MERRY + Bright Pom Pom Holiday Home Tour

Happy Holidays!! I am SO excited to be taking part in Just A Girl’s annual holiday tour! These girls are all so amazing. Be sure to stop by and see all of the beautiful ideas!

I LOVE a theme for Christmas! This year I went with Pom Poms!! I LOVE color and felted balls and pom poms make me so happy! This year I’ve really been trying to embrace my love of color. Our new neighborhood really embraces color and I love seeing all of the cute colorful houses here!

I created a pom pom MERRY for our mantel. It was SUPER easy. The giant letters are paper mache letters you can find at Hobby Lobby. I bought a bunch of their felted ball garlands. For these GIANT MERRY letters, I took one garland and cut the balls apart. Then I hot glued the balls onto the giant letters! I used 3m command strips to attach the giant letters onto the front of the mirror above our mantel.

I carried the MERRY theme onto our Christmas tree. I found two different sizes of the same paper mache letters. I used paint to dot the letters with the same colors as in the big MERRY on the mantel.

Another project I made for our Christmas tree was I made a very simple and inexpensive garland out of paper doilies! It only cost a few dollars and I love the color it bring onto the tree!

I love these little houses from the Hearth + Home line at Target. I added a simple white cake plate and another string of felt balls and it’s the perfect simple display for our coffee table.

I used a couple of different felted ball garlands across the mantel too. And on the coffee table. I also wrapped our presents with plain brown postal paper and added some bright ribbons. I think the brown paper ties in the plain brown from the paper mache letters!

And I added a card holder! I think the brown cork really ties in with the natural woods and natural brown paper packages!

Lots of COZY throws mean we can all wrap while we snuggle watching Christmas movies!! 

I added some plaid pillows and simple Scandinavian pillows to my teal couch.

I dressed up our little kitchen eating nook too with a festive sign from the Sincerely Us girls. I added some simple red pillows to our bench. And added in some red cake plates and little trees to the buffet behind our table.

Our front porch has a plaid and candy cane theme! I love our galvanized planters. I wanted something similar for the door. I found the galvanized wreath and I think it looks great with the planters. I have a tutorial on how to make the Galvanized Wreath on the blog! I had some candy canes left over from our North Pole Santa tree last year, I put a fresh wreath on top of each of the planters and then I put three candy canes in each planter and tied it with ribbon.

In our bedroom I added a Sweater Weather sign from Sincerely Us shop! I made a duvet out of a flannel sheet which was a really inexpensive way to dress up our room for the holidays.

I added a couple tiny real trees in the house too. I only added globe lights to these and I love how simple they look! I added a little tree to the corner of the room and a little sign I made at Heidi Swapp’s craft night!

In the dining room we have a glittery silver New Years theme going on! With a sign Good Tidings Sign. You can grab the Good Tidings Sign on my site. It’s fun to make because you use your own handwriting and a template to create the chalkboard art!

And my mom is in town for Christmas so I added a little holiday cheer to her guest room!

Our home feels so festive and cozy! I can’t wait to see the rest of the homes on the tour. This is my favorite time of the year!!!

Colorful Happy Home Dining Room REVEAL

I am SO happy about today!! Today is my COLORFUL Happy Home Dining Room Reveal! I LOVE color. Color makes me happy and I love finding ways to bring it into our home. I had an epiphany about my life this year and I decided to bring the happy color I love into my life. So when a bunch of amazingly talented bloggers contacted me about doing a room makeover based on color, I was thrilled. This fun project is called “Color Lovers” and everyone is making over one room in their home using COLOR. And TODAY are the room reveals. Birch Lane is an affordable shopping destination with classic designs — I am in love with the chairs I picked out. More about those below! And The Mine has thousands of stylish furniture and home decor items – you can find virtually anything you could possibly want on their site. Their selection of rugs is phenomenal.

I based the whole room off of this gorgeous Minted Ivy Limited Edition print.

I love how abstract it is. And the colors are kind of beachy and beautiful. I love the greens, blues, with accents of white and bright pink.

For seating I brought in these beautiful Lennon Scandinavian Side Chairs through Birch Lane. I love their lines and the simple modern look.

I paired the chairs with a gorgeous Basset Dining Bench I found at The Mine.

Then I reupholstered the top with pink and white buffalo check material.

I matched the buffalo check fabric to bright pink table runners I also found through Birch Lane.

The rug is from the Collection Expression Area Rug from The Mine and I love the color combinations in it.

There are so many different shades of blues, greens, aquas and turquoise. I think it pairs perfectly with the Minted print.

Instead of placemats or a table cloth, I used the bright pink runners on the table. Birch Lane also has napkins that match the runners. And I paired the runners with lux gold silverware, also from Birch Lane. I love the way the silverware picks up the light on the table. It’s so pretty!

I also brought in a very simple console table —  Safavieh FOX4220B Fox Manny Console Table from The Mine.

I plan on having LOTS of family dinners in our dining room and I love having a console table to put food on so that there is more room on the dining table. I also love having a lamp as a warm light and it reflects up onto the Minted print at night which is beautiful.

I chose the Barclay Table Lamp from The Mine. I think it is really different and beachy. I love the square lampshade and the gold accents. The inside of the lampshade is foiled gold and it gives off a warm, gorgeous light at night.

Here’s what the room looks like as you enter it from our family room. I think the wood chandelier that I made goes really well with the wood barn doors and along with the colors in the room it gives the room a warm beachy feel. You can see my little succulent garden in the corner. I have managed to keep most of those plants alive so far LOL!

The wire plant stands are available through Birch Lane. I absolutely love them.

I also think they would make fun quirky nightstands too.

Here’s what the room looks like from our front entry. I love that it is one of the first rooms that visitors see when they come into our home. I think it reflects our warm, happy, colorful home!

6 Shelf Styling Tips – Make Shelves that POP!

I miss the open shelves in my 1905 Cottage. It was so fun to display things on them.

I also had a HUGE pantry in that home and I was able to display all of my pretty bowls and containers. Our new home doesn’t have any open shelves in the kitchen, but we do have some beautiful open shelves and a pretty wood ladder on wheels in our dining room. It’s been fun to style those shelves for different seasons since we have lived here.

After I had my #ColorfulHappyHome ephiphany a few weeks ago, I thought it would be nice to incorporate some color into this room. There is a room makeover happening and I will have details on that SOON! But in the meantime I thought I would share a little COLORFUL update on the room, PLUS a few ideas on how to style shelves that are pretty, interesting and can showcase things that you love!

6 Shelf Styling Tips make Shelves that POP! 

1. Keep Things Simple.

Cluttered bookshelves look busy and distracting. So instead of displaying everything you own on your shelves, thoughtfully consider items that you really love. You can always change things out and rotate through your treasures. Also don’t fill up every single bit of your shelves. Leave open space, it will give the eye room to breathe.

2. Stick to a main color scheme.

You know I LOVE color. But stick to 1,2 or three main colors. The overall look will be much calmer. For my shelves, I stuck with a plain white background. I brought in bright pink as my accent color and I have that color in a few places on the shelves.

3. Display collections together.

I put all of my white candlesticks together on one shelf, and all of my cake plates together on another shelf. This makes a big statement and really showcases your collection.

4. Display items at different heights.

For example my candlesticks are all different heights that this creates interest. Another example are the wood patterned trays I have on two of the shelves. I put them on shelves on top of each other to display them together, but I displayed one vertically and one horizontally and this is a little tiny surprising detail.

5. Add natural elements.

I always add something that is alive when styling my shelves. If you have a black thumb like me you can add “faux” foliage as long as it can pass for real LOL! In this room I also have a succulent garden which brings in a beautiful natural element and creates the illusion of the outdoors.

6. Add something metallic.

Something reflective will add a new dimension to the shelves. It also creates the illusion of more light and space. I LOVE mirrors in my home, much more than traditional art. Mirrors are kind of like empty space but they make every space appear lighter and larger. In these shelves I added a couple of mirrored elements. I added a silver shiny serving platter in front of the cake plates on the right shelves. I also displayed some mercury glass votives on a cake plate on the shelf opposite to draw the eye to both sides of the room.

I am still working on these shelves. A few other things I want to do are — bring in more of the hot pink color on the shelves. Another fun idea to switch up the look of shelves is to add color behind the shelves. I did this in the open shelves in my old house. I took cabinet doors off and I cut a piece of plywood to fit behind the shelves and then I wrapped fabric or wallpaper around that piece of plywood to easily change up the background of the shelves. I loved it!

I did this same type of thing in my closets upstairs in this new home. I took pieces of foamboard and wrapped fabric around them and then put them behind the shelves in my closets. It’s the same type of idea and it’s much easier to change out than wallpapering or painting behind your shelves.

DIY 3-Dimensional Spring Sign

The sun was out a little bit this week and it gave me a yearning for Spring. One of the things I love to do most is decorate the porch of our new home for each season. I thought maybe decorating our porch for Spring would make the warm weather arrive faster LOL.

I also love making my wooden signs. I haven’t made a giant wood sign for Spring yet. So the other day I dropped by the hardware store and picked up a simple pine board for $7, with the intention of making a Spring sign for our NEW home.

DIY 3-Dimensional Spring Sign

I’ve made quite a few different signs over the past few years and I am always trying to challenge myself to make new sign ideas. I ended up experimenting with a few different ways of making a Spring sign. I striped the sign and didn’t like it. I painted it and added stripes of ribbon and didn’t like it. I added ribbon to the edges of the sign and didn’t like it. I came to the decision that what I DO like is very SIMPLE BRIGHT & COLORFUL things best.

So in the end, I ended up spray painting the board a bright blue. Then I added HI wood letters, which I painted a bright, contrasting yellow.

DIY 3-Dimensional Spring Sign

I loved the idea of making the HI letters 3-dimensional – I thought it would give the sign a more MODERN look. So I raised the HI letters off of the board by gluing them to the board, using wall anchors. I needed something tall and thin that would fit behind the letters and hold them away from the board. I cut the pointy ends of the anchors off so they were straight on both ends and I used heavy-duty adhesive on each end of the anchors to connect the HI wood letters to the blue board. I tried hot glue first but it wasn’t heavy enough to hold the HI letters onto the board.

It was hard to be patient, but the glue I used had to set up for 24 hours before I could use the sign. I think my name should be impatient crafter. I had a hard time waiting for the glue to dry!! But in the end I was happy I used something that will make my sign last throughout the hot days of summer which will hopefully be arriving soon.

I LOVE my SIMPLE bright and happy sign.

Easter Bunny Spring Printable Tags Signs

Printables are an easy way to decorate our homes. Here is a Spring Printable I’ve created and I hope you print one out for YOUR home!  I printed mine off and framed it for my mantel. Seeing it there makes me excited for Spring and warm weather!!

I made a couple different versions. I think this Rappers Delight version is funny. Did you ever see the little old lady singing it in The Wedding Singer. So cute.

I also made some smaller tags that you can print off and pair with a little gift for neighbors or friends with Spring/Easter.

I shared the easy recipe for Easter Chick Jellybean Bark yesterday. It’s a fun craft recipe to make with the kids. Then print off the tags and attach them to bark and deliver them to people in your neighborhood. Kids love doing kind deeds for other people.

Make 10-Minute Spring Pillow Covers

I love making pillow covers. I know I’ve talked about it before, but making your own pillow covers is so much better than buying pre-made pillows. You can use the same insert over and over which is economical. PLUS you have so much freedom in terms of the patterns and colors of covers you can make. I’ve teamed up with fabric.com to show you how easy it is to change your look up with pillow covers! Here was the same room in the fall:

This project requires MINIMAL sewing skills. All you need is a basic sewing machine and the ability to sew a fairly straight line.

So I thought – the color of the fabric I used for my closets is exactly the right shade as my family room couch. Why not make some easy 10-minute pillow covers?? It really was a no-brainer.

You can get more information on how to make a pocket pillow cover at this post. But basically all you do is measure out the size of the insert; my inserts were 20-inches square. Then I added an inch all the way around for seam allowance. For the envelop backs you just measure the same as the front and add 6 inches on to the width so there is an overlap in the back which holds the pillow inside the pillow cover. Then sew a seam along the length of the two envelope pieces. You face the fabric inside, so the right side of the fabric faces each other. Pin it in place and sew along the outside of the pillow cover. Then pop the pillow cover inside out, which is really the right side. And put your insert inside.

The fabric I used is  Anderson Check Snowy Fabric.

The other fabric is Anderson Canopy Snowy Fabric

I used the two coordinating prints – one with buffalo checks and the other striped.

6 Ways to Organize Your Pantry 

I have been organizing my house like crazy. Over the past month I got my closets cleaned out and this week I got my pantry all organized, including new trash cans – one for trash and another for recycling. 1.   Create easy access.

With hungry kids, my pantry can get SUPER messy if they have to rummage around to find what they are looking for. I divided my pantry up into “zones”. The main zone is the center shelf of the panty and I keep things on it that we use a lot like — lunch supplies, baking supplies, pastas, ramens, and other dry foods. I put them in galvanized buckets to keep things pretty. Each bucket has like foods — for example, pastas in one, ramens in another. All the kids have to do is pull a bucket out and get whatever item out that they need.

2.  Optimize Space.

The pantry in our new home is much smaller than the one I created at the 1905 Cottage. I had to pare down the things that we keep in the pantry. I keep the canned food in a turn-around cabinet inside of our island. I keep the rest of the non-refrigerated food in the smaller pantry. To optimize space, I added a couple wood turntables and keep essentials on them. One turntable has cooking oils on it. The other turntable has syrups and baking items. The turntables make the corners of the pantry very accessible. All we have to do is turn the turntables to see all of the supplies. It makes preparing food so much easier. Another items that I love is the spice turnaround and pull out spice rack. I have printable labels that make finding spices easy and so much prettier.

3. Label everything.

On the bottom shelf I have crates where I keep things that are bigger and require more space – like chips, breakfast cereals, snacks. I made printable labels that I cut out and put on wood tags and hot glued on the crates. Everything is stored together and it makes the pantry stay cleaner when the kids know where things go.

4. Leave a little space.

In the middle of the pantry I keep a tray with the salt and pepper shakers and napkins, as well as the cookie jar. This makes getting a quick snack easy and looks nice when the pantry is open. Above that shelf I left a little space where I keep pretty rolling pins and bakeware. These are items that are useful and pretty.

5. Put staples in clear jars.

I put some baking and cooking staples in clear jars and labeled them with my craft cutter. Items like flour, sugar, rice, etc. The large jars look nice and make it easy to find staples that we use most.

6. Keep things tidy.

Just like anything else, if we don’t stay on top of our pantry it can get messy and disorganized in no time. We have committed to spending 5 minutes a day tidying our pantry to keep it clean and organized.

There’s nothing worse than taking the trash out and having it spill all over your clean kitchen. Organize your Closet with Fabric

I organized my upstairs closets a couple of weeks ago with fabric wallpaper – which is panels of foam core, covered in fabric.

I just popped them in the back of my closet shelves and VOILA – instant wallpaper! I love that they can be switched out easily too. So much easier than traditional wallpaper!!

One area of my home that has been in DESPERATE need of a makeover is my closet. From the beginning when we moved into the home last summer I knew I needed to find a way to make the closet more functional. It’s an open space without a door so it is a space that I pass by several times a day and I can’t just shut the door and forget about it. Here is the closet before. It’s pretty bad!

Here are three ways that I used fabric in my closet makeover!

1. I took some thrifted fabric boxes that were worn and torn and recovered them.

• I started with the bottom part of the fabric box. I put the box on top of my fabric and brought the fabric up the sides to see how big the panel should be. I added three inches to each of the side to be safe. You don’t want to measure too small.
• Then I put the box on top of the fabric with the inside of the fabric facing up. Then I pulled the fabric up on the front of the box and over the front of the box, hot glueing the fabric into the inside of the box. Then I pulled the fabric on both side of the front so that the fabric was pulled evenly on the front of the box.
• I folded the fabric on the sides of the box like you would if you were wrapping a package. I folded the fabric flat and then brought the next fold evenly with the edge of box and ran a length of hot glue where the seam would be.
• I did this on the bottom of the box. If you want to finish the edges so it looks pretty inside of the box, you can run a length of ribbon where the unfinished edges of the fabric are, this will hide the edges of the fabric and give the inside of the box a pretty look
• Then I finished the top of the box. I laid a panel of the fabric over the top of the box and measured the top of the box and the sides and then added three inches to the measurements.
• I finished the top of the box the same way I did with the bottom. I finished the edges of the top of the box the same as you would when you wrap a present. I used hot glue to adhere the fabric to the box.

2. I lined some very inexpensive wire baskets with fabric panels.

I had a little space on top of the shelves I installed in the back of my closet. It was perfect for shallow wire baskets to organize items like hats, scarves and purses. This is how I made these panels.

• I made panels the same way I did when I made the panels at the back of my cleaning closet and my linen closet.
• You can use foam core or cardboard for the inside of the panels. Measure the bottom of your bin or basket so you can make panels that fit exactly in the bottom.
• I laid the foam core on top of the fabric and added three inches to each of the sides of the panel.
• Then I used hot glue to adhere the fabric to the foam core. I started with one side of the panel, attached the fabric to that side and then did the same thing to the opposite side of the panel.
• I then finished the corners of the panel, gluing the corners as I would if I was wrapping a present.
• The last thing I did was I finished the other two sides of the panel.
• Then I flipped it over and put it in the bottom of the bin.

3. I reupholstered a stool to match the boxes and fabric liners in my closet.

I love reupholstering furniture. This project was so easy and makes such a transformation. My favorite tool for this type of project is a staple gun. They are very inexpensive at your hardware store.

• Take off the top of the stool if possible. Mine just unscrewed from the bottom.
• If your stool has a top that can’t be taken off, you can still reupholster it.
• Lay your stool on top of your fabric and measure how big your panel should be and cut it out.
• Start at the front of your stool. Pull the fabric up at the center of the front of the stool. If you are using fabric that has a pattern or stripe be sure the fabric is centered and straight. Then staple the fabric to the underside of the stool. You can fold the fabric under at the edge to make a edge that won’t fray.
• Then continue pulling the fabric taut and stapling the fabric to the underside of the stool until you get to the edge of the stool.
• Do the same thing on the other side of the center of the front of the stool until you come to the other edge.
• Then finish the edges by folding the fabric and holding it taut the same way you do when you wrap a present.
• Then start on the back side of the stool.
• Finish the stool by stapling each of the sides of the stool.
• Then screw the legs back onto the stool.

I also think I will add fabric panels behind the mirror in the back of my closet, the same way I did with the backs of my linen and cleaning closets.

I just smile every time I walk past my closet now!!
