It’s our first Valentine’s Day at the #1891AvenuesCottage and to celebrate I am breaking out all of the heart decor! I finished restoring the mantel right before Christmas and I am so thrilled with how it turned out!

Restoring a Vintage Fireplace for under $200
Here is the fireplace before and after! I used stain to add a darker color and restore the wood. I also added tile and camouflaged the fact that the fireplace insert is off-center by using black tile that made the black insert blend in better. Black and white patterned tile on the hearth update the fireplace but overall still respecting the original elements of the fireplace. I will do a post with links to all of the products I used for this fireplace makeover for under $200!
How to Make Handmade Paper Medallions
I used paper from my new Pebbles Inc. Hey! Hello! paper line. They are so easy to make and perfect for decorating different holidays AND parties. I wrote up a tutorial on how to make the medallions — just click over to DIY Paper Medallions to get the step-by-step directions!
Add Colorful Garlands
I kept the white giant pom pom garland that I used in our holiday mantel. It’s just decorative trim that you can get at Hobby Lobby. You can find it in the home decor fabric section of the store. I added a wood bead garland with tassels and a read and white felted ball garland.
DIY Be Mine Signs
To add another handmade element I created two signs that spell — BE MINE. The smaller sign is the same sign I used last year on my Farmhouse Valentine Mantel.
Because this mantel is much smaller than my old mantel, I created a new sign that I put on the floor and leaned up against the new mantel. All I did to create this GIANT sign was paint a pine board, added a little decorative trim to the top and bottom and hot glued metal letters on the sign. You can find out how I made GIANT signs on my Typography Sign post.
Burlap and Felt Heart Pillow
I love using elements over and over in different ways. This burlap and felt heart pillow is something I made 7 years ago and still love using! I love the pom poms and 3-dimensional elements of the pillows. You can find out how to make these pillows on my Burlap and Felt Heart Pillow tutorial.
Easy Valentine’s Day Paper Medallion Mantel
I love our bright and happy Valentine’s Day mantel! And since the fireplace is in my office, I get to keep warm all month with the warm fireplace while I work AND enjoy how cute it is!
