Ever since I started blogging I have loved scouring the Dollar Tree for fall finds. Usually they have foam pumpkins for $1 – which is a GREAT price! I headed over to Dollar Tree last week and although they didn’t have the larger foam pumpkins out yet, they had smaller ones. Luckily I had a few older Dollar Tree pumpkins stashed away that I could use too, and a few foam pumpkins from Hobby Lobby.

I love non-traditional colors for Fall and Christmas. I think the bright, unexpected colors lend a whimsical feel and I like that. I also have a teal couch and a HOT pink chair in my family room and I wanted to incorporate those colors in my mantel. If you have some plain, orange pumpkins laying around, grab some craft paint and paint them an unexpected color!

  2. Lay pumpkins on a tarp and spray paint them white.
  3. Once dry, paint pumpkins with craft paint.
  4. Once dry, paint stems with mod podge and glitter gold (optional)
  5. Spray pumpkins with gloss polyurethane for shine.

Then layer the pumpkins on the mantel.

I also found two pumpkin string art pieces that go together and tie my pumpkin theme together.

I love that now I have some orange pumpkins, but I also have some pumpkins that tie in my couch and chair colors.

I love your website, I find it so inspiring! You have great ideas that are definitely worth sharing and we have a common interest: Dollar Tree. I absolutely love finding out all kinds of bargains that I can use and re-use and try all different ideas on!
And I love what you did with the pumpkins, especially that now it’s their season (well, for the real ones, at least). The really special part is covering the stems in glitter! 🙂 Sooo cute!
    Congrats & thank you!

    Jen,

Where did you get the felted balls for your garland and the orange puff balls on the sticks? They are awesome! Love your blog and congratulations on getting married!

      Thank you Maureen!!!!

I got the orange puff balls at Hobby Lobby. They are in with the floral picks. I have had the colorful balls for awhile and I can’t remember where I found them. I think it was Hobby Lobby too? Or it might have been at a craft fair.

I’m making some candy corn topiaries, clay pots painted like candy corn in which to put small gifts for friends and family, and some small mason jars filled with caramels with an apple on top of the lid so each recipient can make their own caramel apple. I love fall and decorating! Oh, yes, I’m making some tin can pumpkins with wooden stems on top also.

Loved reading and seeing this! I am one of those bloggers that loves to decorate with color. Though I think the white neutral rooms are beautiful, it just isn’t me. I love finding someone who loves color too!

    Jen,
I saw a preview of this post on UCreate and grabbed some dollar store pumpkins to paint this weekend. Thanks for the great idea! Where did you find that cute pumpkin string art to go with it? I love all the elements you brought together.

      August 29, 2017 at 9:38 AM

      Thank Nike!!

I found the string art at Homegoods. It was such a good price, I knew I couldn’t make it myself for less. But it would be fun to try to do as a DIY 🙂 Send me a picture when you are done so I can feature it!!!

Those pumpkins are so cute! I love how the color pops against your white mantel. And, of course, it suits the pink chair perfectly. This looks like a great craft to do with older kids, too, which is a perfect way to get creative while spending quality time together.

      Hi Leslie!!

Yes I agree! It would be a fun craft to do with older kids and tweens! You can tell them they can paint the pumpkins whatever color they want. I think they would love that!
