I would like to make a quilt for my father who recently found out he has Diabetes. He’s 87 years old and lives in Western Washington state. It’s cold and wet up there more often than not so I think he would enjoy a quilt that would keep him warm physically and warm his heart. It would be made by me, the only one who sews at all in the family. I’m fairly new at this quilting craft but I love learning new things and creating quilts and throws for others. I hope I win. It would be a JOY!

  77. Nicki says

    June 15, 2013 at 3:45 AM

Okay! Well, I believe God lead me to start sewing about 3 years ago when I met a mother of my students ( teacher’s assistant) in first grade! I saw her pocketbook, and I had to have one or one close to it. So I taught myself how to sew. I couldn’t afford to pay more than $10. for one..lol. Every time I saw her she was sweet enough to dissect her bag. And give me tips! I think you know her! Her name is Kristi Maxwell over at Pink and Polka Dot in NC.
Well life happened and I quit. I lost my job due to health reasons. And I’m only 35…ugh. (Just because my dizziness kept me from driving a bus, a requirement for this County’s TA’s.)
But anyway…sorry so this is so long…God has been tugging at me to start sewing pocketbooks and other things again. And to maybe crank my business back up, which is scary. But it takes money to make money. And whether or not , if I win. I will continue to seek His will because He is my Provider! Thanks so much!

I am a newly retired teacher and I am so excited to be able to have the time to make quilts now. I have two retired friends who have been creating some amazing quilts and sharing them with me. I can’t wait to play with the colors and designs to make something that will be around for generations. I have been using scrapbooking as a way to use my creativity, but now I can make quilts. My great-grandmother, grandmother, and mom all have been quilters who had a quilt frame up during the winter as they hand quilted beautiful designs. I can’t wait to join their ranks.

I want to make some pillow covers etc also. At 68 I need simple ways to do it and remember how it is done.
