Between the Studs Bathroom Storage Ideas
We’re having so much fun renovating our #1891avenuescottage in the heart of salt lake! We started on the main floor and updated the kitchen, adding planked statement walls to that room and bringing them over into the family room. We built a new fireplace to anchor the space. Behind the kitchen we divided a room to create a new pantry and laundry room. Then we headed downstairs to carve out a separate airbnb apartment with it’s own entrance. Now we are heading upstairs to work on the outdated bathrooms!
Small Bathrooms Require Imaginative Design
Historic California Home Remodel via Remodelista
Since our home is so old, the bathrooms are small. So I knew I needed to use my imagination and plan them out really well to make them as functional as possible! We are lucky that the biggest bedroom has it’s own bath which makes it the perfect choice for a master suite. Unlike newer built homes that have created space for a big master suite bathroom with a separate toilet room and his-and-hers-sinks, this bathroom doesn’t have the space for all of that.
Add Essential Amenities
The Well Nested Home via Southern Hospitality
As I was planning out the space I considered not having a tub. But as I was thinking it through I decided a tub seems essential for a master bathroom. So in adding a tub I will make the sacrifice of having a small vanity with only one sink. TO make up for this smaller vanity I am going to open a couple spaces in the walls and add some storage between the studs!

Shelves in between studs in a half wall via Domino
Since I’ve been researching my own between the studs storage ideas, I thought I would share some bathroom storage ideas that I love! Some use only the space in between the studs, while others were able to carve out deeper spaces by utilizing dead space behind the walls or in rooms behind.
Cottage Bathroom with Wall Shelving at Tidbits

Bathroom Storage Shelves at Not Just a Housewife

1905 Home Bathroom with In the Wall Storage at The Family Handyman
This is the perfect example of building a wall unit within the width of standard wall studs. Many of these ideas I’m sharing are several wall studs wide which is a little trickier to construct that building shelves that are one wall stud in width. If you are looking for the easiest way to create this project, this is the perfect example. I love the way the renovator used molding to trim the space out! The addition of pretty wallpaper against the white trim makes this wall niche functional and beautiful!
Bathroom Remodel with Tiled Niche at Miranda Schroeder
Why not tile the back of the shelf niche? What a beautiful design statement. I love the way the tile ties the vanity into the design of the room without overwhelming it.
Above the bath niche with wood shelves at CTA Builds
A beautiful niche is cut created inside of the studs in this wall. I love the wood shelves and the way the nose of the shelves is wider than the opening, emphasizing the craftsmanship of the design.
Shiplap Bathroom Shelves at Joyful Derivative
This i s one of my favorite bathroom remodels. This bathroom also doesn’t have space for a separate toilet room. The home owner put in a smaller width shower and that gave room to build these beautiful shelves in the wall. I love how the shiplap continues inside the shelves and really ties this nook into the overall design of the bathroom.
Between the Stud Nook at Ivory Lane
I love the idea of creating useful shelves by a tub. It’s the perfect spot to hold all of the toiletries you need for a leisurely soak.

Bathroom Renovation with asymmetrical nook at Sweeten
This room is an example of utilizing space at awkward angles. The bathroom we are going to renovate is full of angles like this and I love the way they opened up the space. Now instead of being a design detriment, the angles are what make this room more interesting!
Bathroom Remodel with shaped niche at The Zhush
This is one of my favorite bathrooms that has a wall niche. I love the shape of this niche. It really makes a statement in this room and adds a beautiful design element.

That’s so clever, creating a storage in the sides, right near the mirror. I’m definitely going to consult my husband if I can make alterations just like that.
