I found an old glass cabinet door on the side of the road this summer. And instead of just driving by, I popped it into the back of my car. I’ll show you how I made it into something festive and fun!
My friend Beckie at Infarrantly Creative, the queen of Roadkill Rescue is rubbing off on me – LOL.
The window’s been sitting in my craft room waiting for a redo. I started making it over about a month ago. I originally was going to paint pumpkins on it, but after two craft fails, I gave up on my painting skills. So on to round two — and in came my Silhouette.
First I took off the hinges and painted the frame. I chose a really neutral tan for the frame. I added a little polyurethane over the top.
I printed off a scrolly design for the top and the bottom of the frame. And then used Edwardian Script for the “Be Thankful”.
I took a piece of plywood and cut it to the same size as the inside of the frame. Then I covered the plywood with a very thin layer of batting and fabric. I wrapped the fabric around the back of the plywood sheet and attached it to the wood with Gorilla Glue Tape. And that tape also attached the frame to the back of the window.
The last thing I did was add a sparkly knob!
Very easy project. And if I ever get tired of the Thanksgiving Saying, I can take the vinyl off, print something new and switch out the fabric for a different look!
And — I have some exciting news coming up regarding Silhouette so stay tuned!!
I’m sharing this over at The CSI Project.

Hey, Jen…instead of plywood, would foam core do the same thing without the weight? {just curious} LOVE the project!

Love it! I saw an old window laying in the entry hall of a friends house and wanted to grab it SOOOOOO bad!! I may ask her for it and make her something out of it!
Very cute. I love things picked up on the side of the road. My friends now call me if they spot something worth picking up. Sometimes it is just garbage, but you never know what might just become your "masterpiece"! Thanks for the great idea!
Love your little window! Great idea!
Cute, cute, cute Jen! Love your fall mantel as well with all those beautiful heads uh I mean silhouettes! I’m sure you’re thankful for each and every one of them…..if they are your kiddos that is. If not, well they still look darn cute! ;o)

It's beautiful, Jen!!! 🙂 Love the font you chose. I am trying to make my mind up whether or not to go ahead, break down, and purchase my own Silhouette machine. Still not sure!!!!! :s
It is LOVELY! I wish I had your vision….I am trying to learn….or maybe it is COPY! tee hee! 🙂
WOW what a vision!! I never would have thought of THAT from That! its gorgeous!!
I love this, Jen! So quick and easy. Great find on the side of the road, too. Lucky the glass was still intact. I like it on your mantel, too, and you've inspired me to maybe try something similar but with a clearance frame from Michael's.
I love the font you used and sparkly knob. ;D
Looks adorable!
Oh this is such a neat idea! It came out beautiful!
