Making the Perfect French Macaron!!

I had the wonderful opportunity to get together with some great friends last Saturday at Shelley’s home for a FABULOUS night of Macaron baking, taught by the adorable Mercedes White from Mercedes Macarons.

Me, Lara, Elizabeth, Shelley, Amy, Amelia, Emily, Mercedes

{Thank you Elizabeth  of Dear Lizzy for the great photos}

I learned so much!! First of all — do you know what the difference is between Macaroons and Macarons?? My dad’s favorite cookie was macaroons and I can tell you that what we made on Saturday night were NOT the same thing. Macarons {with ONE “O”}is the correct spelling for these french delicacies. And you can fill them will all kinds of fillings — from sweet to savory, even berry fillings!  They are incredibly light, with a slight crunchy outside, soft inside and at only 70 calories per cookie – a delightful treat!!!

 There are also quite a few secrets to making the perfect Macaron. I will tell you a few, but I’ve been sworn to secrecy on a couple. The first thing you need to know is measurement is key. Also, precise mixing time is a must. If you over-mix, the Macaron will not rise.

But never fear, Mercedes not only sells her already made cookies at markets all over UT, but she now offers her amazing, fail-proof almond-flour macaron mix to the public too! YES — you can order the perfect Macaron mix and you don’t have to worry about sifting or measurements. Plus, all of the instructions are included so you can make the perfect Macaron too!!
You can order Macaron Mixes through Mercedes’ store — Mercedes White French Macarons — and she will ship them to you!!

It was also so fun to meet and Emily of Ruffling Feathers/ Bijou Market. Elizabeth of Dear Lizzy,and Elizabeth’s talented husband,Collin Kartchner who even videos the evening . So fun!!

YUM!!

And guess what?? You can sample Mercedes amazing  macarons and all-ready-to-go cookie mix at this weekend’s Bijou Market.

Not only will Mercedes be there, but there will also be 50 other amazing handmade and vintage vendors. It’s going to be a wonderful place to shop for Holiday gifts — don’t miss it!!

Thanks again Mercedes for an amazing evening!!!

xoxo
