$30 Ceramic Candle Wall Sconces That Look Like Designer Lighting

One of my favorite things about fall isn’t the pumpkins or the changing leaves.

It’s the way our homes begin to glow again.

As the evenings get shorter, I find myself turning on lamps a little earlier, lighting candles while I make dinner, and creating those little pockets of warmth that make home feel extra cozy. I’ve always believed lighting is one of the easiest ways to change the feeling of a room, which is why I’ve wanted candle wall sconces throughout my 1932 Tudor since I found it.

The only problem?

My home still has its original lathe and plaster walls.

When I talked to my electrician about installing hardwired sconces, he explained that it would mean opening the walls, running electrical, repairing plaster, repainting, and paying for all of that labor. I knew it would be expensive before I even started shopping for fixtures.

Then I found the sconces I thought I wanted.

They were beautiful ceramic sconces with scalloped edges…and they were almost $500 each.

By the time I added the cost of two sconces, an electrician and repair work, I knew I needed another plan.

That’s when I stumbled across these ceramic candle wall sconces.

They’re only $30 each, and honestly? I like them even better.

Why I Fell in Love with These Ceramic Candle Wall Sconces

When the box arrived, I wasn’t expecting much.

For $30, I assumed they’d be lightweight and feel like a budget find.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

The first thing I noticed was how substantial they are. They’re made from heavy ceramic with a beautiful glossy finish that reflects candlelight in the prettiest way. The scalloped edge and beaded detailing give them so much character, and they’re much larger than I expected at almost 15 inches tall.

Sometimes you open a package and immediately know you’ve found something special.

That was exactly how I felt.

They Look Like They Belong in My 1932 Tudor

Whenever I’m decorating my home, I always ask myself one question:

“Does this look like it belongs here?”

I don’t love filling my home with trendy pieces that I’ll be tired of next year.

I’d much rather buy something classic that feels like it could have been part of the house all along.

These ceramic candle wall sconces have that timeless feeling.

They’re simple.

Elegant.

Classic.

They don’t compete with the original character of my home—they complement it.

I hung two on either side of the mirror in my dining room, and the room instantly felt warmer and more finished.

The Secret Is the Battery-Operated Taper Candles

The sconces are beautiful on their own.

But the real magic happens when you add the candles.

Instead of using real taper candles, I found the prettiest battery-operated taper candles.

They have a warm brown wax finish that looks so beautiful against the creamy white ceramic.

The fluted sides give them a vintage look, and the flickering flame is incredibly realistic.

Most people assume they’re real candles until I pick up the remote.

And yes…

They come with a remote!

My Favorite Feature of Tese Remote-Control Candles Is the Remote

I simply grab the remote, turn them on, and the room instantly feels cozy.

The brightness is adjustable, so I can create a soft glow while we’re eating dinner or brighten them up a little if friends come over.

They also have built-in timers, so I can set them for two, four, or six hours.

They turn themselves off automatically, which saves battery life and means I never have to remember before going to bed.

It’s one of those little luxuries that makes everyday life just a little easier.

The Sconces Were So Easy to Hang

One of the biggest reasons I chose candle sconces instead of hardwired lighting was how simple they were to install.

No electrician.

No wiring.

No holes cut into my original plaster walls.

I used my favorite picture hangers instead of large wall anchors, and they were up in just a few minutes.

Originally, I only ordered two.

I wanted to make sure I loved them before buying more.

That lasted about a day.

After hanging them in the dining room, I kept walking back into the room just to look at them.

That evening, after dinner, I turned on the candles, sat down with a cup of tea, and realized how much the soft glow changed the feeling of the room.

Before I went to bed, I’d already ordered eight more.

Now I’m trying to decide where they’ll go next.

The hallway?

Our bedroom?

The living room?

Honestly…I want them everywhere.

Why I Love Layered Lighting

If there’s one decorating lesson I’ve learned over the years, it’s this:

Lighting changes everything.

When a room feels cozy, it’s usually because there are several different light sources instead of one bright overhead light.

I love mixing lamps, candles, picture lights, and candle sconces throughout my home.

The result feels softer.

Warmer.

More inviting.

Especially during fall and winter, I reach for cozy lighting long before I start decorating with pumpkins or garlands.

A simple glow can completely change the mood of a room.

Rechargeable Batteries Make The Sconces Even Better

One little tip before you order the candles…

I always use rechargeable batteries.

I’ve used them for years in twinkle lights, flameless candles, and seasonal décor.

They’re less wasteful, save money over time, and I always have a charged set ready to go.

Slow Cooker Caramel Apple Cider Drink

Hi! I’m Melissa from No. 2 Pencil and I’m excited to be sharing one of our family traditions with you today! When the weather turns colder, one of my favorite things to make for a family gathering is slow cooker apple cider. This year, I thought it would be fun to mix it up and make caramel apple cider. It was a huge hit and the perfect treat on a crisp fall day.

Slow Cooker Caramel Apple Cider Ingredients

• 12 cups of apple juice – I bought a gallon and had a little leftover
• 6 cinnamon sticks
• 1/2 cup of good quality jarred caramel sauce, plus more for drizzling
• Whipped cream

Slow Cooker Caramel Apple Cider Directions:

• Heat apple juice and cinnamon sticks in the slow cooker for about 4 hours on high.
• Let the cinnamon sticks soften and uncurl.
• Before serving, stir in 1/2 cup of caramel sauce and serve in heat proof cups. Top with whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel.

Recipe notes:

• I use a 5 quart slow cooker
• When the apple juice is very hot, the caramel may start to separate. That’s ok, just give it a stir and it is perfect again.

One of my favorite parts of blogging has always been sharing the little things that genuinely make life easier, prettier, and more enjoyable. Before social media became what it is today, blogs were where we swapped recommendations with friends. We shared products we loved, decorating ideas, recipes, and little discoveries that made everyday life feel a little more special.

The Wonder Oven Is Perfect for Empty Nesters

One of the biggest adjustments after becoming an empty nester has been changing the way I cook. I don’t need to prepare meals for six anymore, and I definitely don’t want to heat up my full-sized oven for one or two servings.

That’s why I’ve been loving this adorable Wonder Oven.

Not only is it incredibly cute sitting on the countertop, but it’s also surprisingly versatile. It air fries, bakes, toasts, reheats, and cooks small batches much faster than a traditional oven. It’s become my go-to for lunch, roasting vegetables, warming leftovers, or making a quick dinner without the extra cleanup.

If you’re cooking for one or two people, I honestly think it’s one of the handiest appliances you can own.

My Rechargeable Candle Warmer Lamp

I’ve always loved burning candles because they instantly make a home feel cozy, but lately I’ve found myself reaching for my rechargeable candle warmer even more.

Instead of burning the wick, the warming bulb gently melts the wax and fills the room with fragrance. The one I’m using has several brightness settings, so it doubles as a beautiful ambient lamp in the evenings.

I love that I don’t have to remember to blow out a candle, and my favorite candles seem to last much longer.

It’s one of those little luxuries that makes everyday life feel just a little bit calmer.

An Affordable Lip Gloss That Rivals My High-End Favorite

If you’ve followed me for very long, you know I’ve been loyal to Buxom lip gloss for years.

Recently I picked up Revolution’s Pout Bomb Plumping Lip Gloss, and I was honestly surprised by how much I liked it.

It gives that same glossy, fuller-looking finish with a comfortable plumping effect, but it costs a fraction of the price. It has quickly earned a permanent spot in my purse.

I love finding affordable beauty products that perform like luxury brands because they prove you don’t always have to spend more to get great results.

Two Pieces I’ve Been Reaching for Again and Again

There are two fashion favorites I keep grabbing this summer.

The first is my Mother jeans. I’ve talked about these before because they’re truly worth the investment. The fit, stretch, pocket placement, and quality are unlike anything else I’ve found, and they hold their shape beautifully year after year. In your 50s, it’s time to stop apologizing for buying good jeans. Buy the inexpensive top. Invest in the jeans that make your butt look amazing. I carry my laptop almost everywhere, whether I’m heading to a coffee shop, filming content, or meeting clients.

It protects my computer without adding a lot of bulk, and the soft gingham pattern makes me smile every time I pull it out of my bag. It’s practical, simple, and exactly the kind of organizing product I appreciate because it solves a problem without overcomplicating things.

My Favorite Little Self-Care Routine

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that self-care doesn’t have to mean an expensive spa day.

Sometimes it’s as simple as slowing down for an evening.

This weekend is going to be a busy one.

I’m hosting an open house tonight, spending time working on projects at the Tudor, and hopefully wandering through the farmers market on Saturday morning. There’s something about fresh flowers, local produce, and strolling through the market that always inspires me.

Some of you have been here since the early blogging days eighteen years ago, when we shared crafts, decorating ideas, recipes, and little glimpses into everyday life through our computers instead of our phones. Those years helped create an incredible community, and I’ll always be grateful for it!!

But life changes.

Over the past few years, I’ve experienced some of the biggest transitions of my life. My youngest child moved out, making me an official empty nester. I moved into a 1932 Tudor that I’m slowly renovating room by room. Things haven’t worked for me romantically (YET) after my divorce. I’ve been helping care for my mom, who’s navigating some health challenges, while also learning what life looks like when your children become adults and your role as a parent begins to shift.

Instead of feeling like an ending, I’ve started to see this season as something exciting!

Why We Love This Strawberry Cream Cheese Cake

It’s so moist and yummy! The bottom layer is soft white cake, then it’s topped with a cream cheese/whipped cream topping and topped off with fresh strawberries in a sweet strawberry glaze. The layers of whipped cream frosting and strawberries keep the cake so moist and fresh. You can make it ahead and serve it the next day! We aren’t huge cake lovers, but this cake is so moist and bursting with flavor. I haven’t met anyone yet that doesn’t love it!

The Perfect Summertime Cake

Strawberries are in season right now so this is the perfect cake to make this time of year. There’s something magical about fresh, sun-ripened strawberries. I love that this cake uses FRESH strawberries that aren’t cooked so the ripe strawberry taste shines through!

The best part about this recipe for me is how EASY it is to make!

The base of the cake is a plain white cake mix. It’s perfect for ANY type of party or occasion. Fresh strawberries are the star of this cake. And the frosting is light and doesn’t overwhelm the fruit.

Make This Strawberry Cream Cheese Cake The Day Before

You also can make this cake a day ahead of your party or occasion. Just keep it refrigerated and take it out when you are heading to your party.

Choose the Size Pan You Want

You make your cake in a jelly roll pan OR in a 9×13 inch rectangular pan. The cake will rise to the height of the pan, then you add the frosting and then the layer of glazed strawberries. It’s a beautiful cake that will be the centerpiece of the party! You also can bake the cake in two small round pans, then add the strawberry filling to the center of the cake and on top for a layered cake version of this recipe! It would look so beautiful!!

The BEST Fresh Strawberry Cream Cheese Cake

The BEST Strawberry Cake Recipe. Moist white cake covered in a fluffy layer of cream cheese and whipped cream with a topping of luscious fresh strawberries in a sweet strawberry glaze. Everyone will fall in love with this delicious, easy cake.  

Servings 12

Ingredients

• 2 pounds fresh strawberries, sliced
• 2 packages (8 ounce each) cream cheese
• 1 16 ounce tub of whipped topping, thawed
• 1 white cake mix
• 2 tubs strawberry glaze (you can find these in the produce section by the fresh strawberries) If you can't find the already made glaxe, you can buy a powdered version.

Instructions

• Grease a cake pan and preheat oven to 350-degrees 
• Make cake mix according to mix instructions. Pour cake mix into cake pan. Bake according to cake directions. 
• Take cake out when done and let cool completely. 
• With an electric mixer beat cream cheese and whipped topping until combined. 
• In a large bowl combine the fresh strawberries and glaze until combined. 
• Pour whipped topping/cream cheese mixture over the top of the cake until covered. 
• Layer the strawberries/glaze mixture over the top of the whipped topping mixture until covered. 
• Chill cake in refrigerator for at least an hour before serving. Can be refrigerated for up to one day before serving. Cover with plastic wrap if serving the next day.

10-Minute DIY Ideas for Spring & Summer Entertaining

There’s just something about a new home and a new season that makes me want to dive headfirst into decorating projects. And this time…it’s EXTRA special because we just moved into a NEW historic home in the Avenues!

New Home: New Beginnings!

This home is completely different from anything I’ve ever owned before — a charming 1932 Tudor full of original character, cozy spaces and SO much potential. Decorating Our 1932 Tudor Front Porch

The very first space I wanted to decorate was our front porch. The house sits at the very top of the Avenues, and the views from the porch are absolutely incredible. It feels like the perfect spot to sit outside on warm evenings, host friends and family, and soak in summer sunsets.

So I was thrilled to partner with Hobby Lobby to share a few EASY and budget-friendly DIY ideas to decorate your outdoor spaces for spring and summer!

Hobby Lobby Spring Finds

And can we just talk about Hobby Lobby sales for a second?? So many departments are on sale right now, which makes it the BEST time to get inspired for seasonal decorating. I headed into the store to see what caught my eye and honestly…there was SO much goodness.

The first thing I spotted were these ADORABLE round daisy placemats with the sweetest striped ruffle edges. I instantly knew they would make the cutest pillows for the porch.

DIY No-Sew Daisy Placemat Pillows

And the best part? This is a completely NO-SEW project!

I used my Surebonder glue gun along with their fabric glue sticks and you guys…the technology is AMAZING. The bond is seriously so tight and secure. It worked just as well as sewing but was so much faster and easier. I simply glued two placemats together for each pillow and stuffed them. Since the placemats were on sale, each pillow cost less than $5 to make!! You can find the placemats in the front of the store and the glue pen and sticks are in the adhesive section.

Supplies Needed

• 2 round placemats per pillow
• Pillow stuffing
• Surebonder glue gun
• Surebonder fabric glue sticks
• Scissors

How to Make the Pillows

• Lay one placemat face down.
• Run hot glue around the outer edge, leaving a small opening. I did a small section at a time because the glue dries pretty fast.
• Place the second placemat on top and firmly press the edges together.
• Allow glue to cool completely.
• Fill with stuffing or a pillow insert.
• Glue the opening shut. Check around the edges for any gaps and add hot fabric glue to those sections.
• Fluff and style on your porch furniture! Or inside for a Spring vibe!

My Favorite Swan Finds at Hobby Lobby

If you know me at ALL lately, then you know I have become completely obsessed with swans I don’t know what it is, but they feel so whimsical and vintage and perfect for a cozy Tudor home. Hobby Lobby has the CUTEST swan decor right now and I seriously had to stop myself from buying every single piece.

One of my favorite finds is this gorgeous moody swan framed wall decor piece! I loved the way it looked in our DIY Scallop Plate Rack!

It has the prettiest vintage-inspired feel and would look amazing in a powder bathroom, bedroom or layered into a gallery wall.

Hobby Lobby’s spring and home decor sections are FULL of beautiful cottagecore-inspired pieces right now and I am definitely leaning into that vibe in our new 1932 Tudor home.

My Favorite Hobby Lobby Find — The Swan Planter

And THEN I found the swan planter of my dreams!! The minute I saw it in Hobby Lobby’s Spring Shop, I knew it was coming home with me. I’ve been looking for one for SO long!! It has such a classic vintage feel and is the perfect statement piece for spring and summer decorating.

I decided to turn the larger swan planter into a centerpiece for our porch table.

DIY Swan Planter Centerpiece

I grabbed floral foam, greenery picks, ribbon and a pretty yellow floral stem that coordinated perfectly with the daisy pillows. I placed the foam inside the swan planter, added two larger greenery stems and then cut apart the smaller yellow floral stems to fill everything in. It came together SO quickly and makes such a statement on the table.

Supplies Needed

• Swan planter
• Floral foam
• Greenery stems or picks
• Small floral stems
• Ribbon
• Heavy-duty scissors or floral cutters

How to Make the Centerpiece

• Cut floral foam to fit inside the swan planter.
• Insert two larger greenery stems into the foam to create height.
• Trim smaller floral stems into smaller pieces.
• Fill in empty areas with the smaller stems.
• Tie ribbon around the swan planter or tuck ribbon into the arrangement.
• Style on a table, porch or outdoor dining space!

The Best Ribbon Selection

And let’s talk ribbon for a minute because Hobby Lobby’s ribbon department is basically my happy place. Their ribbon selection is AMAZING and it goes on sale every other week! I found the prettiest iridescent ribbon to tie onto the arrangement and it adds the perfect little shimmer in the sunlight.

Summer Entertaining on the Porch

I’m already dreaming about summer evenings out here hosting friends and family. I also found the most beautiful green serving platter that will be perfect for entertaining. And Hobby Lobby has the BEST rechargeable LED lamps right now. I found one in the PERFECT shade of green and it has multiple light settings which makes it so handy for outdoor entertaining.

Gorgeous Glassware Finds

One of my favorite finds though might be these ICON gorgeous heavy glasses. SUCH a good dupe for those viral designer glasses from a super upscale store. They come in several different patterns and styles and are absolutely beautiful for little cocktails, mocktails, sparkling drinks or iced coffee. They feel so luxe and expensive.

DIY Spring Flower Lanterns

Spring is almost here, and there’s no better way to bring the beauty of the season into your home than with a simple and charming DIY project!! These easy DIY Spring Flower Lanterns capture the essence of blooming flowers and glowing candlelight, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. This project is perfect for crafters of all skill levels and only takes about 30 minutes to complete!

Spring Flower Lantern Supplies

To create these delicate lanterns, you’ll need just a few basic supplies:

• Dried flowers
• Matte Mod Podge
• A paintbrush
• Lanterns
• Battery-operated candles

How to Make DIY Spring Flower Lanterns

The dried flower packages come in several different color schemes, allowing you to customize your lanterns to match your decor. I bought two different packs of flowers, and I still have about half left over, so one package is plenty for decorating up to three small lanterns. The best part? Each pack of flowers comes with tweezers, making placement super easy!

Step 1: Prepare Your Work Area

Before you begin, set up your workspace with all your supplies within reach. Pour a small amount of Mod Podge into a container for easy application. Make sure your lanterns are clean and dry so the flowers adhere properly.

Step 2: Apply the First Layer of Mod Podge

Using a paintbrush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to one side of the lantern. Be sure to use even strokes in one direction for a smooth and polished finish. The Mod Podge dries clear, but it will create a rippled texture, giving the lantern a gorgeous stained-glass effect!

Step 3: Place the Dried Flowers

While the Mod Podge is still wet, carefully place the dried flowers onto the lantern. Use the included tweezers to position them exactly how you want. Gently press down so the flowers adhere to the surface. The flowers are delicate, so handle them with care to prevent tearing or crumbling.

Step 4: Seal the Flowers with Mod Podge

Once your flowers are arranged, brush another layer of Mod Podge over them. This will seal them in place and protect them from peeling or lifting over time. Be gentle with your brush strokes to avoid damaging the fragile petals.

Step 5: Repeat on All Sides

Turn the lantern and repeat the process on each remaining side. Apply Mod Podge, press on the dried flowers, and seal them with a topcoat. Continue this process until all sides are complete. Allow the Mod Podge to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Step 6: Add Your Battery-Operated Candles

Once your lantern is dry, place a battery-operated candle inside. The soft glow of the candlelight shining through the pressed flowers creates a stunning effect, making these lanterns a gorgeous addition to any space in your home.

Where to Display Your Flower Lanterns

These DIY Spring Flower Lanterns are incredibly versatile! Here are some ideas for where to place them:

• As a centerpiece: Arrange them on your dining table for a beautiful spring-inspired tablescape.
• On a shelf: Add them to a bookshelf or mantel to brighten up your decor.

Why Valentine’s Day Has Totally Grown on Me

Over the past 18 years of blogging, I’ve come to really look forward to Valentine’s Day. I love taking down the holiday decor and filling my home with happy pops of pink and red—it instantly feels joyful and fun. Over the years, I’ve hosted quite a few Galentine’s Day parties, and they’ve always been some of my favorites. It’s such a sweet way to gather your family and girlfriends together and celebrate friendship.

A Quick (and Sweet) Valentine’s Day History

Valentine’s Day is celebrated every year on February 14 and dates all the way back to ancient Rome. Over time, it evolved into a day centered around love and connection. These days, it’s not just about romance—it’s also about celebrating friendships, which is exactly why Galentine’s Day has my heart. In case you’re wondering, Galentine’s Day is usually celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day, February 13th.

Galentine’s Day, But Make It Bows & Conversation Hearts

This year, I wanted to create a Galentine’s party filled with big bows, conversation heart decor, and easy DIY crafts. I broke everything into simple projects that are fun, affordable, and easy to recreate!

One Easy Trip to Hobby Lobby

I headed to Hobby Lobby, where their Valentine’s Department is on sale, and found everything I needed. From ribbon and felt to party plates and decor, Hobby Lobby makes it so easy to throw a party with one stop. I’ve linked all of the party supplies at the end of this post for easy shopping!!

How to Make a Giant Bow (for less than $3)

This oversized bow is such a showstopper and surprisingly easy to make.

Steps:

1. Use a roll of plastic table cover material (found in Hobby Loby’s party decor section).
2. Tie a large bow, making each loop about 4 feet wide.
3. Wrap extra material tightly around the center to create a thick bow middle.
4. Secure the top of the bow with a hot glue gun.
5. Roll out about 20 feet of table cover material for the tails.
6. Cut the material in half so you have two tails.
7. Tie a knot at the top of each tail to create a gathered look.
8. Use duct tape to hang the bow over a large window—hang the bow first, then tape the tails underneath.

Tip: This giant bow is perfect to hang outside over your front door too! The plastic material makes it very durable. I plan on making another one out of the same roll of material for my front porch too!

DIY Felt Conversation Hearts

These felt hearts are adorable, reusable, and so fun to customize.

Steps:

1. Use pre-cut felt sheets (each sheet makes two hearts).
2. Cut one heart and use it as a template for the rest.
3. Cut out all of the hearts so they’re the same size.
4. Add extra-large adhesive alphabet letters (I used red and white).
5. Create cute texting abbreviations and playful sayings.
6. Use just one set of each alphabet color and plan words around the letters you have.
7. Create a small loop of duct tape on the back of each heart.
8. Stick the hearts around a window, leading up to the giant bow.
9. Add a few hearts around mirrors or near the food buffet.

Tip: The felt makes attaching the adhesive letters a little tricky. To make sure the stay on, I recommend using a small line of hot glue under each letter to make sure the letters stay on and you can use them year after year.

DIY Craft Paper Table Runner

This runner adds the perfect playful touch to the table.

Steps:

1. Roll out craft paper long enough to cover your table.
2. Cut the paper to drape over the sides of your table.
3. Use a white oil-based Sharpie marker.
4. Freehand “XOXO” across the runner, alternating letters.

Tip: Go over each XOXO a few times so the white really pops.

Candle Bow Centerpiece

This centerpiece is whimsical, layered, and full of Valentine charm.

Steps:

1. Layer heart-shaped doilies from the Valentine’s section down the center of the table.
2. Place candlesticks on top of the doilies.
3. Choose ribbons in red, pink, and white in varying widths.
4. Tie large, loopy bows around each candle.
5. Use lots of ribbon to keep it playful and dramatic.

Tip: I used battery-operated candle sticks, but you can also use regular candle sticks.

Ribbon Bow Chandelier Decor

This ties the whole room together beautifully.

Steps:

1. Use the same ribbon from the candle centerpiece.
2. Loop ribbon around the chandelier arms.
3. Tie bows in different sizes, colors, and lengths.
4. Keep it loose and uneven for a whimsical look.

Styling the Food Buffet

The Valentine’s department has the cutest party details.

Steps:

1. Use Valentine’s paper plates for easy clean up – Hobby has a few different options to choose from in their Valentine’s Department.
2. Add matching napkins.
3. Use wooden heart food picks in red or pink.
4. Mix and match items for a fun, festive display.

How to Make a Tissue Paper Heart Tree Centerpiece

Here’s how to make this easy centerpiece idea!

Use Branches

To create the tree, use real or faux branches. I had a olive leaf garland that I found on sale, so I just cut that apart to make branches. You can cut some branches from a tree in your yard or use faux branches. Find a container to use. I used a simple white vase. Then put your branches in your vase.

Cut Tissue Paper Hearts

I used two different colors of PINK hearts for my tree. I used about 8 layers of tissue paper and cut out three different sizes of hearts out of both colors of the pink tissue paper. But you can use ANY color or multiple tissue paper colors for your project. White would also be beautiful!

Attach the Hearts to Your Branches

Once I had the hearts cut out, I used hot glue to attach the hearts to the branches. If you don’t want to use hot glue you can use glue dots or even a dot of regular white glue.

Distribute the Different Sized Hearts on the Tree

I used the largest size of hearts first. Once I had those attached, I worked my way through the hearts by ize, ending with the smallest size hearts. I love using tissue paper for this project because the tissue paper is so thin and the light comes through the tissue paper hearts which I think is so pretty!

Display Your Tissue Paper Heart Valentine Tree

This valentine tree is so fun as a centerpiece for a coffee table or dining room table, but it would also be so pretty on a kitchen counter or island or even on a entryway console or bedroom dresser. The possibilities are endless!

For years I’ve loved the look of giant Christmas bows — they’re whimsical, oversized, and look like something straight out of a holiday storefront window. They make such a statement whether you hang them on a front door, over a fireplace mantel, or even on a Christmas tree. But every time I looked up a tutorial, they seemed complicated and SO expensive. Most of them call for yards of fabric, interfacing, stabilizer, or pricey materials I didn’t want to buy. And this tutorial is NO SEW!!! I wanted something simple, affordable, and easy to make, so I decided to come up with my own version — and I’m obsessed with how it turned out!

Why I’m Using Table Runners for This DIY Giant Christmas Bow

As I wandered through the Christmas department looking for fabric, I spotted the Christmas table runners — and instantly knew they were the perfect solution. They’re long, fully hemmed, sturdy, structured, and come in the cutest patterns. Even better? They were $10.99, but with the Christmas sale at 50% off, they came to $5 each. Instead of spending $60+ on materials, I made this entire giant bow for around $25 — and it looks so high-end. Truly the easiest shortcut ever. I used the plaid version, but there are a few different patterns to choose from!

Giant Christmas Bow Supplies

• 5 Table Runners
  • 1 for the bow top
  • 2 for each of the long tails (4 total for the tails)
• Medium-gauge wire
• Hot glue gun + glue sticks
• Zip ties (optional)

Make the Top of the Bow

Step 1: Thread Wire Through Both Long Seams

• Cut tiny holes at the top and bottom of each long seam, only through the back side of the seam.
• Next, make a small loop at the end of your wire so it doesn’t snag and flatten it so it is as small as possible..
• Thread wire through each seam, leaving about 3″ sticking out on both ends.

Step 2: Shape the Bow Loop

• Flip the runner to the back.
• Fold both long edges toward the center.
• Twist the wire ends together to attach the ends together.
• Flip it back over to the front.

Create the Bow Center

Add a piece of material in the center of the runner to create a bow shape.

Step 3: Cut an 8″ Strip From One of the Tail Runners

• This becomes your bow “knot.”

Step 4: Finish + Wrap the Center

• Fold raw ends under and glue.
• Wrap around the bow center and glue on the back.

Make the Long Tails

I wanted the tails to be as long as my doorway, but you can use only ONE runner per tail if you don’t need as long of tails.

Step 5: Glue Two Runners Together Per Tail

• Create two long tails (two runners each).
• We will hide the seam will be hidden later.

Step 6: Attach Tails to Bow

• Gather the top of each tail.
• Hot glue them to the back of the bow.

Hang Your Giant Bow

Now hang up your bow where you want to display it – on top of your doorway, on a wall or on your tree!

Step 7: Attach the Top of the Bow

• Use wire, ribbon, or zip ties.
• I threaded a 10″ wire piece through the back and twisted it onto the screw above my door.

Step 8: Secure Each Side

• Now poke wire through the top corners of each bow loop.
• Next, Attach to screws/hooks (or branches if you’re hanging it on a Christmas tree).

Attach and Drape the Tails

Step 9: Create Cascading Sections

• Add a zip tie wherever you want a draped ribbon “tier.”
• Now attach that zip tie to your garland, hook, or branch.
• Repeat 2–3 times to create a soft cascading effect.

Step 10: Hide the Attachment Points

• Blouse the fabric over each zip tie to keep the drape looking smooth and natural.

Trim the Tails

Step 11: Even Out the Lengths

• Because of the cut center strip, your tails won’t match at first — trim them to be even.

Step 12: Cut the Tail Shape

• I cut mine into a V-shape, but diagonal or straight works too.

Coordinating Porch Decor

Step 13: Add Greenery Garland

• Mine is from the Hobby Lobby Christmas department. I layered the pine Norfolk garland and the Cedar Garland. Along with Twinkle Lights! And I added some brown ball picks that reminded me of gingerbread houses!

Step 14: Hang a Gingerbread-Themed Wreath

• Wreath + gingerbread cutting board = Christmas aisle.
• “Gingerbread cookies” = wooden snowflakes painted like cookies in the craft section of the Christmas Department.
• Wire from the ribbon dpartment.

Step 15: Layer a Buffalo Plaid Rug

• Festive red + white buffalo check rug — which is also from the Christmas department.

Step 16: Paint a Galvanized House Into a Gingerbread House

• Paint one of the galvanized Christmas houses with craft paint for the cutest porch accent. I’ve linked a sweet Gingerbread House below.
