Bright and Colorful Holiday Home Tour. Easy ways to celebrate the holidays with color. Simple DIY ideas you can make to bring the spirit of Christmas into your home this holiday season!
Welcome friends!! I’m so excited to be participating in the Seasonal Simplicity Holiday Home Tour! Wasn’t Chelsea’s tree gorgeous?? I love her site and all of the beautiful inspiration!! Welcome to our home! Cuddle up with a cup of cocoa come inside!!
I love COLOR and I love decorating my home for the holidays. This year I create a few DIY projects to bring COLOR and the spirit of the holidays into our home. I love the simple Scandinavian design and color. This year I am trying to bring the simpleness of Scandinavian design and color together for something that speaks to my soul.
Easy, Inexpensive DIY Projects
I am sharing our family room, kitchen and eating nook, dining room, master bedroom, office and porch!
Bright and Colorful Holiday Family Room
Our family room and kitchen are the rooms that get the most use. Luckily they are adjoined in this home. It’s nice to have an open space where our family can gather. I can cook and talk to the kids while they are playing video games or watching a movie.
Make DIY Ornaments
I wanted to create a Christmas tree with LOTS of color. I hung colored ornaments and created large Scandinavian Wood Snowflake Ornament Plaques and hung them on my tree. Instead of a traditional tree skirt I use a galvanized tree ring. I love the way it looks. I brought in a few different galvanized elements that go together – the tree ring, galvanized cans that the smaller trees are in and a metal tree that I put on our coffee table.
Create a Bright Mantel with Embroidery Hoops and Garlands
I also LOVE decorating our mantel for the different seasons and holidays. I hung a branch above the mantel and then added embroidery hoops with sayings. I used my favorite Banner Punch Board to create the banners. You can find out more about how I created our mantel on my Joy to the World Mantel tutorial.
Below the mantel I added a DIY Joy Sign. It’s made out of a shelf and SO easy to make. You can find all of the instructions on my DIY Joy Sign tutorial.
Bright and Colorful Holiday Kitchen
I added a few festive touches in my kitchen. Fresh flowers, pretty lanterns, little wreaths on the cupboards and a centerpiece on the island.
Make Cupboard Wreaths Using Garland
I found some tiny garland at Hobby Lobby and I created wreaths for my windows and cupboards. I added bright and colorful ribbons on the wreaths that echo the colored ribbons on my embroidery hoop wreaths that are hanging over the mantel. I also added a little centerpiece on the island. A gold Santa and some colorful oranges and flowers. The Santa is so whimsical!
Bright and Colorful Holiday Kitchen Nook
One of my favorite areas to decorate is my kitchen nook. We hung some floating shelves and they are so handy to keep my cutting boards and serving pieces on the shelves and the buffet underneath.
Make DIY Signs
For the holidays I added some fresh garlands, a JOY sign and a little DIY letter board. The kids love creating funny holiday sayings on it. I also added a couple pillows to our bench. The pillow covers are an DIY too! I have more details on this space here – Christmas Kitchen Nook.
Bright and Colorful Holiday Dining Room
Our dining room is one of my favorite spaces. The light is always so bright and cheerful.
Create a Centerpiece with Ornaments
I created a bright and festive centerpiece with a giant New Years Eve ball and some smaller NYE mirrored ornaments. Underneath is a white faux fur runner.
The sign is from my friends at the Sincerely Us Shop. I love their graphic signs! I added a few trees to the shelves as well as matching magnolia wreaths on either side of the barn doors.
Bright and Colorful Holiday Master Bedroom
We added a tree to our master bedroom. It’s so magical laying in bed with the twinkling lights!
Put Your Tree in a Basket
I added some festive red lantern lights and gold ribbon to the tree. And put the tree inside a navy jute basket. The trick to anchoring trees in a small basket is using an umbrella stand! It works great and the tree is very secure!
I also added a cozy white comforter and faux fur pillows. The mirror by our windows is a project I made a few years ago and a Pottery Barn knock off.
Bright and Colorful Holiday Office
This year I added some cheer to my office too! I put a little live tree in a basket and used big globe lights. I love the way it twinkles in the evening as I am on the computer.
I wrote a funny holiday saying on my letter board and hung and bright felt banner above my desk. I also added a colorful gallery wall above my pink office chair!
The cabinet at the corner is my newest favorite thing! It’s my Dream Box from The Original Scrapbox company. I finally got all of my craft supplies all in one place!! It’s so nice to open the cabinet and use the desk inside. My daughter who is a design student uses the work space all the time because it has a built-in overhead light that makes doing fine details so easy at night. I will write up a more comprehensive post all about it. I love it.
Create a Holiday Gallery Wall
I also created a holiday gallery wall. I gathered a couple signs and a wreath I hadn’t used in a few years and hung them over my bright pink chair. The It’s a Marshmallow World is from Joobilee Designs!
Bright and Colorful Holiday Porch
And the first thing someone sees of my holiday home is our porch. This year I added a DIY JOY sign and a hand-painted rug. I always hang wreaths on all of our front windows. I love the way it looks! And of course I added some festive pillows to our benches and chairs.
Thanks for stopping by our holiday home!! Be sure to check out ALL of the Seasonal Simplicity homes on the tour! They are so beautiful and inspiring!!!
