Switching Things Up For Summer With a Turquoise Slipcover!

turquoise slipcover at Tatertots & Jello

Do you ever get in one of those cleaning moods? I was in one yesterday and while I was at it I took down my Fourth of July stuff and got out Summer! I love having a couple of different slipcovers for our couch. I have a grey one for Winter and a Turquoise one for summer. Here’s what the couch looked like before the slipcovers:

This summer has kind of gotten away from me and I hadn’t had a chance to switch out the slipcover.

I took the grey one off and switched it out to turquoise. It feels so bright and summery!!

I added some yellow pillows in different prints and some white pillows with grey polka dots. And the Prism Check  rug I got a couple of weeks ago. I ordered it from RugsUSA.com when they had their 65% off sale. It was under $100. It’s an indoor/outdoor rug so it is really durable.

I also ordered one for my #1905Cottage office in yellow.

And another thing I did was I took all the Fourth of July mantel decor down and flipped the door from the red side to the yellow side. Now all I have to do is scour my house for some Summery things for the mantel. I also think I will make a bunting. Maybe one kind of like this ruffled bunting I made a few years ago but with brighter colors.

It’s so nice to come home to a clean and bright and cheerful house. I love it!

My friend Shelley of Slipcovers by Shelley made the slipcovers for me. I have only been sewing for a couple of years and I knew that project was out of my skill set. She did an awesome job. The slipcovers are super tailored with kick pleats. So if you are in Utah and are looking for someone that can slipcover a piece, be sure to give her a call. She does amazing work! And she also has two DIY Slipcovering DVDs that will show you how to slipcover pillows AND furniture!

Now I’m excited to get started on the mantel!!

HI, I love your fireplace. Is it electric or gas? I thought maybe you made it. I have an electric fireplace, but it’s a stove. But I’ve always wanted a mantel behind it. I really like yours with the stones.

  4. I LOVE the choice for turquoise! I am 17,therefore living in the house decorated (or not so much) by my mother. I wish so bad I could talk her into a yellow slipcover. I guess I’ll have to wait for my own house! I’m a big fan of your blog! Thanks.

  5. Your home is beautiful! I love how bright and cheery it is! I was just wonder the name and brand if your grey paint! Thank u so much:)

Oh my gosh! Love the turquoise slipcover! That lady did a beautiful job! I inquired about having slipcovers made and was told that it would cost almost as much as upholstering the sofa because this man makes them tailored to your sofa, nothing like you buy out of catalogue that you have to keep tucking them in, straightening them up, etc. What type of fabric are they made from and did you have to go out and choose your material and buy it or did the lady that made them have the fabric? Another question, how easy is it to wash the slipcovers if necessary and can you do them on delicate cycle in washer/cold water? What about putting them in the dryer. I always heard you put slipcovers back on the sofa when they are slightly still damp but I’d be afraid of damage to sofa fabric, even slightly damp. I sure wouldn’t want to have to iron them before putting them back on the furniture.

  8. Hi there! I just started following your blog today after checking into a pin on Pinterest. I am squealing with delight over your turquoise slipcover! I might have a slight infatuation with turquoise. And a major infatuation with turquoise paired with yellow and gray. The whole look is awesome!

Hey! What brand and style is ur couch? I really want it!!! And the slipcovers!!! It is awesome!!! :-)!

    • Hi! I bought the couch from my sister. I don’t think it’s a brand name like Ikea. She bought it from Guild Hall in Salt Lake. I am not sure who the manufacturer is. My friend Shelley from Slipcovers from Shelley came over and measure the couch and made slipcovers for it. If you are in Utah I am sure you could contact her and get an estimate for her to make you one.

      Have a great day!

  24. Hi Jen! I love the turquoise. Sometimes I feel blah because I’ve painted my walls a neutral color. Then I run across something bright and cheerful like your slipcover & it reminds me why I went with beige paint. Time to go look through my pillows for some pops of summer color. Thanks for sharing.
