My Slipcovered Sectional and a Giveaway!

I spent this summer changing my space from a dark, slightly Tuscan vibe to more of a cottage-y, light-filled look. One of the things I really wanted to do was slipcover my big sectional in my family room.

Update – winner has been chosen. It’s Melissa Swenson.

I wanted to go with white, but since I have four active children, I thought maybe a slightly darker color would hold up better. I didn’t want to spend all my time taking the slipcovers on and off to wash them – lol.

And then last Spring I was sick and I spent about 6 hours watching a marathon of Good Luck Charlie on the Disney Channel. I fell in love with the house on that show and their turquoise couch. It was so happy. It was the center of their home.

So that’s what I did. I originally wanted to sew the slipcover myself, but after a little experimentation I had to face the fact that my sewing skills just are not advanced enough to make something that detailed. So I did the next best thing– I contacted my friend Shelley who has a slipcovering business. She is a genius.

Shelley came out and fitted the couch. She pinned it and then took it to her home to sew it together. I was fascinated to watch this process!! After watching her pin it and having her explain things and give me some tips, I think I can attempt a slipcover of my living room couch since it’s smaller and symmetrical.

So now I have a really bright and happy couch.
Seeing it every day makes me happy!

Here’s a before and after shot of my couch:

Shelley has an awesome DVD that shows you how to make a custom slipcover for YOUR couch or chair. And she is letting me give one away. You will love it!!

Here’s how you can win:

xoxo

That blue is sooo gutsy!! I’d love to do the same thing I hope I can muster up the courage to do as bold of a color! It turned out absolutely gorgeous though!

I was wondering how this cover is holding up to washing? I’m loving the colour and I’m trying to decide if it’s worth the effort to do it. Thanks!!!

Looks great! I would love to slipcover my sectional, too, to give it a longer life — especially since my family loves eat in front of the TV on Friday nights!

Hi – love the room, where did you find your coffee table? I’m trying to find a similar table for our sectional.

    Hi Jen!
I LOVE the slipcover but where did you get your rug? I have been searching & searching for the perfect grey & white striped rug! Jamie at the Creative Imperative whittled one up out of table runners but before I go that route, I thought I’d check with your first! She linked to this post as inspiration. Thank you!!!

It looks great! I love the chevron pillow and throw.

I think it’s hilarious that you added Good Luck Charlie in this post! 🙂 Such a funny show.

Just out of curiosity how much fabric did it take? I have a sectional I am dying to recover– and I just don’t know how much to order!

I left a message on her blog. I need to re-do a chair that my grandmother had re-upholstered but cats ate up. Maybe I can win this DVD and do her proud!

Wow, she did an amazing job on that slipcover!! I remember seeing a rug you pinned awhile back you said might have been your template for the rug. It reminded me of the Good Luck Charlie rug — I’m so in love with that home too! Everything looks great

I like your couches better than the TV shows! Very pretty, it looks like it was made originally that way 🙂
