A Decorating Solution {project} and some Silhouette information!

You might know that we turned our Dining Room into my Craft Room/Office, And I LOVE it.
It was one of the best decisions that we ever made.
In doing it, we filled in a big arch with drywall and installed big french doors. I love the french doors because they let in the light from both directions.
The drawback is having your craft room visible from the front door — eeeeek!
{Dining Room Before}
 {let me tell you — it is never this clean LOL}
And I don’t know about you, but my craft room is messy almost 100% of the time!
I have been trying to figure out what to do about this dilemma for awhile now. And then I found out about Silhouette’s Frosted Vinyl.
So I thought I’d share my little project with you, in case you have your own little mess that needs a solution like me – lol. I downloaded a circle background from the Silhouette online store — .99. And then I measured my space and made the image fit in that space. Super easy.
I was originally thinking that I would use contact paper for this solution, but the Frosted Vinyl is thicker than contact paper and that made it easier to install plus there weren’t as many air bubbles. I think it will hold up better than the contact paper would have.
I only have one panel done so far, but I can already tell that this is going to be a great solution to my messy problem.
Plus — they are polka dots. So cute!!!!
And I have had a lot of readers email me wondering if Silhouette was going to have another awesome sale.
So I thought I would pass along this information.
Today, through the 28th of February,  Silhouette is offering this great deal —

    Your the best! 😉

  3. Your blog is gorgeous, as is your craft room! I am in the process of making our den into a craft room/playroom so I can craft while my son is playing. What is one must have in a craft room?

Hope you can check out my blog someday too!

  6. Thank you so much for posting an offer from silhouette. I've been wanting to buy one for months but refused to pay full price. I just ordered mine and can't wait to start crafting with it. I hope you don't mind but I linked to your blog from my blog. Love your blog and craft room!

  7. Your craft room is amazing. I have a space in the basement and no one really sees it. It is messy all the time, too.

I have a Silhouette on my wish list. Maybe one day. By then they will have come up with something even better.

  10. Your perfect craft room is my perfect homeschool room! May I ask where you found the desk? It is perfect for my four students. I hope that doesn't violate some blog etiquette that I am unaware of. :)

  11. Handy Man, Crafty Woman says:

Love it! I"m a scrapbooker, so I love looking at crafting rooms!

  12. Sue (Someone's Mom) says:

Well now you know that dining room would have much more use at my house, but I love your craft room. I lack the gene really, but I'd like to just sit there and pretend I knew what I was doing.

  13. Wow – just wow. What an awesome room.

  14. We are building a house and we've decided to close in the formal dining room. We're going to make it my craft room/family office type room. Love your idea to cover the french doors…may have to copy it!
Thanks for the pictures as well. I'm trying to decide how to set the room up, and it helps to see what works for others….

  15. I can't find that package on their website. Do you have a link? or do you put all of those things in your cart individually?
    Thanks!

  16. The Fintons says:

I really love the silloette and want to purchase one but i have a MAC. Do you know if the silloette can be used with the MAC? Thanks so much!

  17. I want your craft room.
And the color of paint in your living room.
    That is all.

  18. Oh I LOVE it!!! Lucky girl! All of my cardmaking stuff is stacked on these 2 little tables pushed into corners of our living room. I'm considering turning our walk in closet into a craft room.

  19. I LOVE your craft room! Wow! Wishing I had room for something so wonderful. I'm talking closet sized craft room here. Everything is shoved under the stairs in a closet with all the Christmas stuff. Not much crafting going on here…

  20. Love the polka-dot vinyl! It's going to look great.

  21. I love your craft room Jen! I temporarily transformed our dining room into a craft room, but out house has an open floor plan and you could see my clutter mess all the time. I love your idea of french doors!

  22. Michele {The Scrap Shoppe} says:

Fabulous idea! I love the pattern. I'm so intrigued by the frosted vinyl! I'm definitely going to have to get some. I'm super envious of your craft room, too! How fun is that space?

  23. The DIY Show Off says:

Jennifer – thank you so much for sharing the giveaways with your readers!

We have a sliding French door in the dining room that will lead to what is to be an office/guest room – so little privacy. I was going to start this exact same project this weekend. You beat me to it! lol But it's nice to see that it works – it looks awesome on your door! Great job! Looking forward to seeing it all completed.

    Take care.

    Roeshel

  24. AndreaLeigh says:

I love, love, love your craft room. I'm so impressed with how beautiful, functional, and organized it is. I love the large table – seems like a great place for the kids to come in and work as well. Are the desk and cabinets custom built?

  25. my dining room is right off the foyer too-a craft room there would be so awesome-i often think about using it for something else because we don't use the dining room enough

  26. wow, that is going to look GREAT! i can't wait to get a silhouette….someday!!!

  27. I've been thinking about converting our dining room to a craft room/kid's art studio (for the art playgroup I host weekly), but I've been a little afraid because this is right off the foyer. I love the frosted vinyl for the doors! It's cute and it still lets light in while allowing you to hide your craft projects! Great idea!

  28. Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions says:

What a great craft room, Jen! I love your middle work space and your bookcases/cabinets. I like your frosted vinyl answer to the doors. When you said polka dots I had to go back and look because I was looking at the negative space which is the diamond shapes!

  29. I love your craft room Jen! I sure wish you could come over and solve all the dilemas I have with mine! xxoo

  30. Shweta Jain Chopra says:

lovely craft room there, it was fun to look around, i am actually myself in the process of redoing my craft room, will share some pics on my blog once i'm done.
    http://seoulcurry.blogspot.com/
    love your blog.

  31. That craft room is gorgeous!! What a wonderful space to create. I love the polka dots on the doors.

  32. holy gorgeous craft room!

  33. this blessed nest says:

i think that polka dots are the sister to the buntings. they go together like PB&J!

    it's the perfect combo.

as of right this very minute, i can barely walk in my craft room.

    😉
    xoxo

  34. where did you get the cabinets? love the room, i wish!

  35. Fantastic idea!! What an inspirational and fun room.

Where oh where did you buy your craft room furniture?? It has the perfect amount of shelves and cabinets. Love. It!

  36. Your craft room is gorgeous! I think your floor plan is similar to a floor plan in our first home in Sandy. We used the formal dining for an office too. But I would have loved French doors like yours!

  37. I am so in love with your craft room.

I would have made some straight fabric curtains to hand behind the French doors that roll up and just tie at the top (by hand) and let them down whenever it was a mess and someone stopped by unexpectedly! ;D

But your frosted vinyl glass is about a hundred times cuter than that. I love it! I love the polka dots!

  38. Ricki Jill Treleaven says:

Jen, we are working on converting our unused formal living room, right off of our foyer with no way to hang doors, into an art studio. I will have to keep the studio very neat with pretty storage. Yikes!

  39. Love it…and your craft room looks AWESOME!!

  40. I love your craft room, and love this window solution – so cute!!

  41. Beverly @ FlamingoToes.com says:

Well I'm seriously envious of your craft room! And I love the idea of the frosted polkadots on the doors – that is going to look so great!

  42. another question: what is the paint color in the living room? Thanks!

  43. I'm curious about the tall hutches. Where did you find them? Thanks.

  44. Oh man that is awesome! I would never pick out that color green but it so works!

  45. June@I will craft says:

The room looks great. How wonderful to have all that space to craft.

I love the vinyl, perfect touch to give you a little privacy.

  46. Heidi@TheCraftMonkey says:

Great idea! I love the polka dots!

  47. I love your craft room! I hope that one day I can talk my hubby into letting me turn our dining room into one!!!

  48. taidyeoriginal says:

I really love it. I have a soft spot for polka dots! I am drooling over the sihluette! Holding back from using the charge card is WAY too hard with such a good deal.

  49. Pati @ A Crafty Escape says:

I love it because it will still the light in while looking cute!

  50. Goodness I just want to play in your office all day long!!!

Cant wait to see the finished doors!

  51. Nice!!! That is fantastic!!! PS…my room is never clean either! I would never get anything done if it was clean! lol :)

  52. Jen-CraftOManiac says:

OHHHH' I think your solution is fab. I can hardly wait to see it alll finalized… love it. P.S. I hear you on now wanting everyone to see it from the front door. Plus it will be that much funner, quieter to craft in with divider/doors up. XO and winks-jen

  53. Susan @ homeroad.net says:

First of all, I love that room! How great is that double desk? And second I think the vinyl will do the trick. That was a great idea, light will come in but you won't see exactly what's behind the door!
    Susan

  54. i think that's a great idea! your space is so inviting.

  55. It's messy because you use it…it's wonderful!

  56. Genius idea! I love it! Someday I will get one of those machines!
