A Decorating Solution {project} and some Silhouette information!

You might know that we turned our Dining Room into my Craft Room/Office, And I LOVE it.
It was one of the best decisions that we ever made.
In doing it, we filled in a big arch with drywall and installed big french doors. I love the french doors because they let in the light from both directions.
The drawback is having your craft room visible from the front door — eeeeek!
{Dining Room Before}
 {let me tell you — it is never this clean LOL}
And I don’t know about you, but my craft room is messy almost 100% of the time!
I have been trying to figure out what to do about this dilemma for awhile now. And then I found out about Silhouette’s Frosted Vinyl.
So I thought I’d share my little project with you, in case you have your own little mess that needs a solution like me – lol. I downloaded a circle background from the Silhouette online store — .99. And then I measured my space and made the image fit in that space. Super easy.
I was originally thinking that I would use contact paper for this solution, but the Frosted Vinyl is thicker than contact paper and that made it easier to install plus there weren’t as many air bubbles. I think it will hold up better than the contact paper would have.
I only have one panel done so far, but I can already tell that this is going to be a great solution to my messy problem.
Plus — they are polka dots. So cute!!!!
And I have had a lot of readers email me wondering if Silhouette was going to have another awesome sale.
So I thought I would pass along this information.
Today, through the 28th of February,  Silhouette is offering this great deal —

You get:
  • Silhouette SD Machine
  • 1 Roll of Black Premium Vinyl
  • 1 Roll of Premium Frosted Vinyl
  • 1 Roll of Premium Transfer Paper
  • Home Decor CD
Normally $400, but this week,
for only $225!

That’s almost half off!!
http://dollarstorecrafts.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/vinylHeader.jpg
And also their premium vinyl is on sale — 25% off.
{I have to say that I love the premium vinyl so much more than their regular vinyl}
Just use the code — TATER

    Your blog is gorgeous, as is your craft room! I am in the process of making our den into a craft room/playroom so I can craft while my son is playing. What is one must have in a craft room?

    Hope you can check out my blog someday too!

    Thank you so much for posting an offer from silhouette. I've been wanting to buy one for months but refused to pay full price. I just ordered mine and can't wait to start crafting with it. I hope you don't mind but I linked to your blog from my blog. Love your blog and craft room!

    Your craft room is amazing. I have a space in the basement and no one really sees it. It is messy all the time, too.

    I have a Silhouette on my wish list. Maybe one day. By then they will have come up with something even better.

    Thanks for the pictures as well. I'm trying to decide how to set the room up, and it helps to see what works for others….

    Jennifer – thank you so much for sharing the giveaways with your readers!

    We have a sliding French door in the dining room that will lead to what is to be an office/guest room – so little privacy. I was going to start this exact same project this weekend. You beat me to it! lol But it's nice to see that it works – it looks awesome on your door! Great job! Looking forward to seeing it all completed.

    Take care.

    I've been thinking about converting our dining room to a craft room/kid's art studio (for the art playgroup I host weekly), but I've been a little afraid because this is right off the foyer. I love the frosted vinyl for the doors! It's cute and it still lets light in while allowing you to hide your craft projects! Great idea!

    What a great craft room, Jen! I love your middle work space and your bookcases/cabinets. I like your frosted vinyl answer to the doors. When you said polka dots I had to go back and look because I was looking at the negative space which is the diamond shapes!

    Your craft room is gorgeous! I think your floor plan is similar to a floor plan in our first home in Sandy. We used the formal dining for an office too. But I would have loved French doors like yours!

  37. Lorie says

    February 24, 2011 at 4:17 AM

    I am so in love with your craft room.

    I would have made some straight fabric curtains to hand behind the French doors that roll up and just tie at the top (by hand) and let them down whenever it was a mess and someone stopped by unexpectedly! ;D

    But your frosted vinyl glass is about a hundred times cuter than that. I love it! I love the polka dots!

    Jen, we are working on converting our unused formal living room, right off of our foyer with no way to hang doors, into an art studio. I will have to keep the studio very neat with pretty storage. Yikes!
