I know you guys are probably so tired of me talking about my never-ending bedroom redo. I am having a huge decorating dilemma with my bedroom redo — why am I having such a hard time with it?!?
One specific problem is — there’s a little bench at the bottom of my bed that is metal and hard — it needed a cushion.
The other night in a flash of creative energy I decided to make a cushion for that bench. Of course all of the stores were closed, so I looked in my donation basket and saw an old bedskirt I was going to donate. You know the material that goes under your box springs? It white and I thought it might make great ruffles.
- Cut out the pillow cover front and back. For the front. measure the pillow and add 1 inch to all sides for the seams. For the back, take the same width as the front, but make two parts so you can slip the pillow through the opening. The bigger part’s length is 4 inches less than the front cover. And the second part is 8 inches in length. Sew the seams under that will be exposed on the envelope side of the pillow cover.
- Don’t sew the front and back together yet! You need to make the ruffles. Cut 2 inch width sections of material, double the length of the pillow. Using a long stitch so you can gather the thread. Make as many as you need to cover the front of the pillow.
- Once you have the ruffles sewn, pin them on the front of the pillow cover. Line them up so they are the same width apart and straight.
- Once they are all pinned, sew them onto the pillow cover and remove all the pins.
- Then you can attach the front and back of the pillow cover. Make sure the ruffles are facing inside the pillow cover so you can flip it inside out when you are done and the seams are inside.
(no – I’m not pregnant…)

Love the room, LOVE the ruffled body pillow cover. I'm a funky sleeper and I simply cannot part with my body pillow that my husband refers to as "the other man" in our bed, or sometimes "my boyfriend, Phil" because of its obnoxious tendency to build a wall between the two of us. My bedroom is girly and pastel colors but the body pillow is big and brown and ugly, and this is a perfect solution. I'm no seamstress, but as soon as I gather the courage, I'm going to attempt this project. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
