I love this idea — there are special applicator tops that convert paint bottles into tools!! So you can add your paint to the bottle and then screw on an applicator top and you are ready to stencil without having to keep dipping your roller in a paint tray. Not only is it convenient but it also saves on materials and clean up!!
{What??? Yes, it’s true!!!}
I can’t tell you how excited I am about this. I am not going to be boxed into a project just based on the limited spray paint colors that are available at the hardware store. Now I have 160 colors of spray painting options for projects. This is genius!!
Plus, there are really cool mediums like Chalkboard, Gilding, Glow-in-the-Dark, Etching, Metal Primer and they work on all crafting surfaces including wood, metal, glass, ceramic, Terra-cotta and fabric. PLUS, it’s indoor/outdoor safe and is dishwasher-safe when used on glass. And it’s non-toxic, so it’s safe to use around your kiddos. Amazing!!
- Measure your pillow form and add 2 inch to the width and length of your pre-washed fabric.
- Add Paint and Fabric Medium to Roller Container.
- I found the trick was to roll the paint on and then use the smaller sponge to smooth the paint over the fabric. This smoothed the paint and made the surface even.
- Then, once the painted dried, I ironed the pillow fronts to “set” the paint. This makes the paint washable.
- The last thing I did was I sewed the pillows together. And guess what?? I made my first zippered pillows. So fun!! A tutorial on that coming up soon!!
I also made two other pillows using Martha Stewart supplies. The first was I made over this star pillow. I used the Spray Paint Kit. It was incredible. It works just like regular spray paint!! It is a little pricey — so save your 40% off coupons 🙂 **I have a link to a coupon at the bottom of this post.
Then I used one of the special brushes to make lines on the pillow. I love that it looks hand done!
And the last pillow I made I added rows of ruffle fabric and stenciled the word “Family” with another of the Martha Stewart Stencils.
I had such a ball experimenting with this new Martha Stewart craft line, brought to you exclusively by Plaid Crafts. The product is available at Michaels stores in the US and Canada starting the last week of August. You will love all of the possibilities this new line will bring to your creative projects!!

Have you had any problems with your MS paint sprayer? I got one from Michael’s and it worked beautifully the first time. When I got it out to use it again, it wouldn’t spray. I exchanged it without a problem and the exact same thing happened. I can’t find any information on line about others having a problem so I wonder if I’m doing something incorrectly. I cleaned it according to the instructions, both times.
Thanks, Diane
thankyou for everthing
I’ve always loved Martha’s ideas and her product line. Been a fan since the beginning. I’m attempting this project this weekend to recover my dining room chairs.
And I featured this one in my roundup here too!

Oh my. It’s all so beautiful! Great to know that there are so many color options. I love the colors you used too.
I am planning a project with the new MS sprayer kit. I will need additional satin spray medium but am unable to even find it. Have you run into this problem? I can not afford to buy a new $30 spray just to get the spray medium included in the box. Ideas? Many thanks.
Oops, forgot link. Is this the stencil you used? http://www.plaidonline.com/martha-stewart-crafts-arabesque-laser-cut-stencils/149/32266/product.htm
Is this the stencil you used? Thanks!
🙁 cant see the pictures for some reas…
hi!!! your pillows look amazing!! but i didn’t get to see the picture on any computer i tried it on, can you pleas send me the pictures on repost them? so i can put images to the tutorial.
I just moved into a furnished apartment and this is exactly the project I need to spice up the ugly throw pillows!
I was sad that only one of the pictures from this blog showed up on my computer, and am wondering if there is a way you could email me some of the pictures from your project!
Hi Jen – those stencils came out great! I’m about to stencil curtains (a big project for my first venture into stenciling). Not only in your blog, but I’ve seen in others as well, where Fabric Medium was added to their paint. Can you explain what it does and why you need it? I thought ironing the curtains after it dries sets the paint in – what am I missing?
Thanks!
Rebecca
Cool site! Can’t wait to try some of the applications!
Love the pillows
Hello Jen-
The pillows look great! What color paint did you use for the teal color? Went to Michael’s today after reading your website and couldn’t figure out the paint color.
Thanks-Chris

That is awesome. I'm a sucker for MS stuff.

Girl, you amaze me! You just whipped up those pillows in no time. I got the same lattice & words stencils you did & had fun playing with them all. I didn't do anything as fancy-schmancy as you did though! These products are great, I'd highly recommend them. xoxo
Your pillows are gorgeous! What a fun project. Thanks for sharing your review of Martha's products.
I’m really enjoying the design and layout of your site.
It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more pleasant for me to come here and visit more
often. Did you hire out a designer to create your theme? Excellent
work!
Amazing! Its genuinely awesome piece of writing, I have got much clear
idea about from this post.
I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was curious what all is needed to get
setup? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny?
I’m not very web smart so I’m not 100% certain. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Generally I do not learn article on blogs, but I would like to say that this write-up very pressured
me to try and do so! Your writing taste has been amazed me.
Thank you, quite great post.
Excellent blog! Do you have any helpful hints for
aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own website soon but I’m a
little lost on everything. Would you propose starting with a
free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so
many choices out there that I’m completely overwhelmed ..
Any ideas? Cheers!
Hurray for Martha Stewart!! I got almost all the same stencils as you, with one exception. I love the pillow projects you came up with! And the starfish is just brilliant.
Link exchange is nothing else but it is just placing
the other person’s web site link on your page at proper place
and other person will also do similar for you.
Can you tell us more about this? I’d want to find out some additional information.
Your projects look great, I can't wait to try the new line:)
What a box of fun!! Everything looks beautiful and SMART — just like Martha! Awesome!! Can't wait to see what else you create from her kits!
