What is Body Butter?
Body butter is a thicker kind of lotion that is super hydrating. It’s better for rougher skin that needs a more intensive moisturizer. Body butter is often more natural, whereas lotions are more refined. I used two three different butters. The wonderful thing about this body butter recipe is that a little goes a long way. Just take a dime size amount, rub it between your hands to warm it up and release the rose essential oil scent.
How Do You Use Body Butter?
The best way to use body butter is to apply it after your shower or bath. After you’ve enjoyed your daily shower or bath, pat your body dry with a towel. I take showers at night and I take a dime sized amount and apply it to my skin. I apply more to dry patches like my elbows and my feet. Applyi it after a shower allows your skin to absorb the butter better and it lets it soak in while you sleep. Of course you can apply body butter after showering in the morning, allow 5-10b minutes to absorb into your skin before dressing so that it doesn’t feel sticky getting into your clothes.
How to Make Rose Body Butter
Ingredients:
- Shea Butter
- Cocoa Butter
- Coconut Oil – cold pressed, unrefined.
- Olive Oil or Avocado Oil 100% pure (I used Avocado Oil) but you can also use Sweet Almond Oil
- 25-30 drops of Essential Oil (I used Rose Essential Oil)

Steps to Make Rose Whipped Body Butter
(I made an Instagram reel – video- that shows the steps – you can see it in my profile @tatertotsandjello)
- Put all ingredients except essential oils in a double boiler. If you don’t have a double boiler — simply bring an inch or two of water to a simmer— gentle heat. Place the bowl over top. You want it to fit snugly without touching the water (if it dips into the water, it will get too hot)
- Gently heat ingredients, stirring until they melt together.
- Take bowl with melted ingredients off the pan and let it cool. Pop it into the fridge or freezer and let it get firm – don’t let it freeze. It is ready when you can put your finger in the middle and it makes an indentation. Be sure to let it set up or it will not whip.
- Whip with a hand mixer or stand mixer until mixture looks like frosting and it is light and fluffy. This takes about 5 minutes.
- fold in essential oil and coloring (optional) and mix together.
- Print off the FREE LABELS (see below)
- Fill jars with body butter and attach labels.
- Now you have the CUTEST and best-smelling Mother’s Day gift or pretty much a gift for any occasion.

Refined or unrefined coconut oil? This probably has more to do with smell.
Avocado or Olive oil, the kind you cook with??
Jen says
Hi Sandy!
I use the Costco Kirkland cocnut oil – it’s col pressed and unrefined. I also use 100% pure avocado oil like this one — https://amzn.to/3vsa36P. I will update the post with that info!
