Memorial Day is the perfect day for families to remember loved ones and honor those deceased while serving in our armed services … but sometimes it’s hard to think of ways to remember them, and sometimes you’re not close enough to bring flowers. Here’s an idea, updated thanks to my friends at Canon, that might work to remember both loved ones and those who died in military service!
One of our family traditions has been to write notes to my dad on his birthday … and tie them to balloons. It’s a great idea for Memorial Day, too — and you can use the free printables to remember your loved ones!
(Look – we’ve been doing it for many years!)
Here’s what to do:
Get some helium balloons, and print the free printables (below). You may also want to add small pictures to your notes. I’ve made two types of printables, both ones where you can write a name and ones where you can attach a picture. I loved how the printables came out using my new Canon Pixma iP8720 printer!
And here are the printables!
Note that the first page has a big “blank” to write your loved one’s name, and a smaller “blank” after the heart to write your name, your kids’ names, or whatever you like! The second page is made to tape a picture onto, but do whatever works for you!
Just right-click this link or one of the images below and choose “save link as” to download the printable PDF. Print as many pages as you need! As always, these are for personal use only.
We think it’s a fun way to remember Grandpa!

What a really lovely idea, much better than visiting the churchyard, which can sometimes be depressing. Thanks for sharing
