I’ve partnered with Universal Pictures for this fun party and delicious recipe. Enjoy!
Masquerade Party: Cupcakes with White Chocolate Ganache Frosting
We love an excuse for a party. So when Universal Pictures contacted me and asked if we would like to host a Masquerade-themed party and recipe based on their new Fifty Shades Darker movie, I loved the idea of coming up with a masquerade idea celebrate.
Masquerade Party: Cupcakes with White Chocolate Ganache Frosting
I thought it would be cool to make a recipe that included a mask similar to the one featured in the trailer and the new movie poster:
After thinking about it for awhile, I thought something decadent would be perfect. Double chocolate cupcakes with whipped white chocolate frosting. A chocolate cupcake with dark chocolate ganache filling, topped with whipped white chocolate frosting and then a chocolate mask on top.
I found mask baking molds. Let me tell you – they were so easy to make.
I used dark chocolate and melted it in the microwave and then poured the chocolate into the mask molds. Then I popped them in the fridge for about 10 minutes. And then they popped right out. Perfect.

I invited some friends over for a fun masquerade party with a sparkly backdrop and masks to take photos together.
Plus decadent cupcakes for dessert. What a great night!
Universal also sent awesome gift bags with movie items like this comfy shirt.
Here’s the recipe for Whipped White Chocolate Ganache Frosting. And to make the frosting only requires two ingredients. The secret to the recipe is heat and whipping the ganache. Check it out!
- 1/2 cup whipped cream
- 1/2 cup whipped cream
- 1 cup white chocolate (use a high quality chocolate – I used ghiradelli) chopped
- The trick to making this recipe work is three things: 1. high-quality chocolate 2. let the warmed chocolate mixture cool at least 4 hours or overnight before the last step. 3. Don’t overwhip the ganache frosting or it will get grainy.
- Recipe:
- Put 1/2 cup whipped cream and chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Heat on 50% heat in microwave for 1 minute intervals until the chocolate melts.
- Mix the chocolate and whipped cream together. Then let sit until room temperature and then refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Pour the remaining 1/2 cup whipped cream over the cooled chocolate mixture and whip on high speed with your mixer until stiff peaks form (1-2 minutes). Stop as soon as stiff peaks form. If you continue whipping the frosting will become grainy. This is VERY important.
- Put the frosting in a pastry bag and top the cupcakes.
- If you want to add chocolate masks to the cupcakes, order a mask mold, fill with chocolate and cool for 10 minutes in the fridge.
