Favorite Things Friday: My Favorite Finds for Women Over 50

One of my favorite parts of blogging has always been sharing the little things that genuinely make life easier, prettier, and more enjoyable. Before social media became what it is today, blogs were where we swapped recommendations with friends. We shared products we loved, decorating ideas, recipes, and little discoveries that made everyday life feel a little more special.

As I begin this new chapter, I wanted to bring that tradition back

Every Friday I’ll be sharing six favorites that I’m genuinely using and loving. My hope is that these posts become a resource you can come back to whenever you’re looking for a great beauty product, a cozy home find, a kitchen gadget worth buying, or simply a little inspiration for your own next chapter.

The Wonder Oven Is Perfect for Empty Nesters

One of the biggest adjustments after becoming an empty nester has been changing the way I cook. I don’t need to prepare meals for six anymore, and I definitely don’t want to heat up my full-sized oven for one or two servings.

That’s why I’ve been loving this adorable Wonder Oven.

Not only is it incredibly cute sitting on the countertop, but it’s also surprisingly versatile. It air fries, bakes, toasts, reheats, and cooks small batches much faster than a traditional oven. It’s become my go-to for lunch, roasting vegetables, warming leftovers, or making a quick dinner without the extra cleanup.

If you’re cooking for one or two people, I honestly think it’s one of the handiest appliances you can own.

My Rechargeable Candle Warmer Lamp

I’ve always loved burning candles because they instantly make a home feel cozy, but lately I’ve found myself reaching for my rechargeable candle warmer even more.

Instead of burning the wick, the warming bulb gently melts the wax and fills the room with fragrance. The one I’m using has several brightness settings, so it doubles as a beautiful ambient lamp in the evenings.

I love that I don’t have to remember to blow out a candle, and my favorite candles seem to last much longer.

It’s one of those little luxuries that makes everyday life feel just a little bit calmer.

An Affordable Lip Gloss That Rivals My High-End Favorite

If you’ve followed me for very long, you know I’ve been loyal to Buxom lip gloss for years.

Recently I picked up Revolution’s Pout Bomb Plumping Lip Gloss, and I was honestly surprised by how much I liked it.

It gives that same glossy, fuller-looking finish with a comfortable plumping effect, but it costs a fraction of the price. It has quickly earned a permanent spot in my purse.

I love finding affordable beauty products that perform like luxury brands because they prove you don’t always have to spend more to get great results.

Two Pieces I’ve Been Reaching for Again and Again

There are two fashion favorites I keep grabbing this summer.

The first is my Mother jeans. I’ve talked about these before because they’re truly worth the investment. The fit, stretch, pocket placement, and quality are unlike anything else I’ve found, and they hold their shape beautifully year after year. I’ll be linking my favorite styles in my LTK so you can see exactly which pairs I wear most often.

In your 50s, it’s time to stop apologizing for buying good jeans. Buy the inexpensive top. Invest in the jeans that make your butt look amazing. A great pair will last for years—and these Mother jeans never let me down. The reason I love Mother jeans is the stretch technology and their pockets are the perfect size and placement. You can’t go wrong!!

I’ve been searching for a robe that’s comfortable enough for summer but still feels a little luxurious. This one is soft, lightweight, and just fun to wear while getting ready in the morning or winding down at night.

Organization Favorite

A Padded Laptop Sleeve That Makes Traveling Easier

I carry my laptop almost everywhere, whether I’m heading to a coffee shop, filming content, or meeting clients.

This padded laptop sleeve has become one of those purchases that I use every single day.

It protects my computer without adding a lot of bulk, and the soft gingham pattern makes me smile every time I pull it out of my bag. It’s practical, simple, and exactly the kind of organizing product I appreciate because it solves a problem without overcomplicating things.

My Favorite Little Self-Care Routine

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that self-care doesn’t have to mean an expensive spa day.

Sometimes it’s as simple as slowing down for an evening.

One of my favorite rituals lately has been putting on the Mediheal Hyper Hyaluronate sheet mask, slipping into my leopard robe, making a cup of tea, and watching a movie.

Those quiet moments help me recharge after a busy week of work, remodeling projects, and everyday life.

I’ve found that taking care of ourselves in small ways often makes the biggest difference.

What I’m Doing This Weekend

Remodeling, Real Estate, and the Farmers Market

This weekend is going to be a busy one.

I’m hosting an open house tonight, spending time working on projects at the Tudor, and hopefully wandering through the farmers market on Saturday morning. There’s something about fresh flowers, local produce, and strolling through the market that always inspires me.

I’m excited to share more of those adventures during Saturday Strolls this weekend.

5-minute t-shirt neckline refashion. I go through project phases I think. A few years ago I wanted to refashion my entire wardrobe. And since then I haven’t really refashioned or sewed much. But last week when I was in Texas I saw this t-shirt at the airport and LOVED it. I am all about mexican food and I just had to have that shirt. Nevermind that I can’t wear high collared shirts (I feel like I am going to choke in them lol).

So when I cam home I decided that I would cut the neckline into a deeper oval. And now I think the shirt is perfect for me!

It’s super easy to do. There is no sewing involved. Here’s how to alter a t-shirt neckline:

1. Try the shirt on and decide where you want the new neckline to fall. Mark that spot with a pin or write on the shirt lightly with a pen, right above where you will make the cut.
2. TIP – make the neckline a little higher than you think you want. It’s easier to go back and make the neckline bigger, than try to make the neckline higher later.
3. Use GOOD scissors. As you can see in the photos I started off with some cheap scissors and ended up using my good fabric scissors – they make a much smoother cut on the fabric.
4. To make the scissors cut as smoothly as possible, start cutting at the top of the front, cut through the collar ribbing and then hold the fabric that you just cut with one hand and pull the fabric taut as you cut. This will let you cut in a straighter line without as many jagged edges.
5. Once you cut all the way along the front, smooth the t-shirt and cut the same line along the back, so both sides match.
6. Then wash and dry the t-shirt and the neckline should roll, making it look more finished.
7. If the neckline is still too high, follow the neckline along and cut off as much as you need to so you get the effect you are going for.

The 5 minutes I mentioned does not include the washing and drying time (just in case you were wondering LOL)

And I didn’t have anyone in the house to show you how the shirt looked when it was done so I had to take some selfies – sorry about that haha!

It’s Mother’s Day weekend! Happy Mother’s Day, my friends! Sending you all wishes for a wonderful Mother’s Day! What are your plans? I was going to have a picnic with my kids but now the weather is going to be cold so I am having everyone over for brunch! If you are looking for something amazing and easy to make — try my mom’s Copycat Panera Spinach soufflés!! They are SO good, better than the original! I have two kids who are vegetarian, so these soufflés are perfect for everyone!

New Projects

Last weekend I painted a wall in our dining room and added a shelf which really transformed our room. This week I cleaned up some details on that project but I also shared a yummy, low-carb dessert.

Keto Lemon Bars

I took my childhood favorite recipe – Lemon Bars, and created a low-carb, Keto version! Taking the recipe from 26 carbs down to only 4! My daughter ate two and said she can’t tell the difference!

We are almost done with our kitchen! I shared a little update and how we chose our faucets in the kitchen and pantry!

Milk Makeup Blur + Matte Setting Powder

Ok this stuff is amazing!! I bought it last week and LOVE it. It’s setting powder that has Powder-filled, blurring microspheres which blur imperfections plus hyaluronic which smooths everything out. It’s one of my new favorite things!

Revolution Blurring Balm

Another amazing find! This is a pore blurring invisible primer to minimize the look of pores, redness and fine lines. I put this on first, then my foundation and then the powder.

Revolution Splendour Ultra Glow Highlighter

This is the last thing I do when I am applying my makeup. I brush a little across my cheekbones, forehead and wherever else I want a little glow. It’s a pretty highlighter that gives you a little glow! It also comes in a bunch of different shades. I love it!

Sometimes I have to pinch myself because I get to do something I love so much and work with amazing people.

I’m still pinching myself. I can’t believe this is happening. I am thrilled.

My word of the year for 2015 is HAPPY. So it was fun to create this t-shirt – “Happy is the new Black”. I love the idea of being as happy as possible.

I found some white denim capris – on sale too. I love white denim in the Spring, it just seems so much prettier than regular denim. And I love a colorful top and chunky necklace.

Plus, a stretchy belt always looks so pretty with a fuller top.

And these are my favorite sandals. They are pretty worn from last year. I wore them all the time. Even though they have a tall wedge heel, they are so comfortable! They are from the brand Toms and they have extra padding in the soles. I am going to look for another pair in a different print this year, I love them so much!

Last month I shared that I was using Jergen’s Natural Glow to get ready for Spring and Summer outfits. I really have used it for years. I love the way it’s gradual and it doesn’t have that self-tanning smell as much as other products that I’ve tried. Here are my arms – one has the Jergens lotion on it and the other doesn’t:

I love bright colors in the Summer.

So I thought it might be fun to try spray painting some kind of blah black shoes to give them a summertime update!

I shuffled through my paint bin and found some Valspar Pink Burst spray paint. Perfect!!

(I taped off the inside of the shoes with painter’s tape to keep the original insides clean)

I gave the shoes a thorough coat and let them dry. But I thought they needed something else to make them pop. So I looked through the Styled By Tori collection and found two modern, sparkly pendants from the Glitz collection. Perfect!!

Once the shoes were dried, I cut off the top attachment on the pendants to make them perfectly round and then attached them to the shoes with adhesive. Let the adhesive dry overnight before wearing.

What an easy and fun project! And I love how bright and summery my new shoes are!! I can’t wait to wear them.

(note — 10 minutes is the total project time it took to updates these shoes. Drying times are not included in the 10 minutes)
