We’ve been renovating our 1891 home for the past couple of years, and it’s been so fun to bring a little modern element to our turn-of-the-century victorian home. I love a simple, casual look with texture and I love the “boho” look because of it’s casual hygge nature.

One of my favorite things is switching my spaces out. I love moving items from room to room to achieve different looks without spending a lot. This year the only thing I bought were these inexpensive rattan pumpkin lights! I love twinkle lights and these are the perfect size for a shelf or mantel!

Boho Cottage Mantel Ideas: Bring Texture to Your Mantel

I am on a basket kick lately!! Did you see my new dining room basket wall I did with my friend Shannon of Thrifts and Wicks?? She sells complete basket walls and she will even send you a photo of how to hang them on your wall. I love the way the baskets look against our dark dining room wall. I bought texture to my fireplace and our hanging shelves in the family room with baskets that coordinate with the ones in the dining room!

Boho Cottage Mantel Ideas: Create a Focal Point

My focal point for this fall fireplace is the owl vase. I bought this many years ago. I think I found it at Target. But I linked a couple similar ones at the end of the post with the SOURCES. I use it every year. Last year it was the centerpiece on our dining table! I used these gorgeous red stems and some wheat stems at the bottom to add some fall color to the mantel.

Boho Cottage Mantel Ideas: Layer Items for Interest

Once you have gathered up items from your home like baskets and pictures, experiment with the placement of your items. This pretty orange plaid print was originally a spring print. I think it’s perfect for fall too. I Put the owl vase on first in the center of the mantel and then layered the baskets and print around the vase.

Boho Cottage Mantel Ideas: Pumpkins are Perfect for a Fall Mantel

Now add those pumpkins! They can be real of faux. These pumpkins are real and I found them at Trader Joes! I love the color – it reminds me of terra cotta.

Boho Cottage Mantel Ideas: Add Sparkle with Lights

I added a little sparkle in two ways. One was with these Pumpkin Twinkle Lights and the other through these metallic mercury glass votives! They come in three different metallics — copper, gold and dark bronze. I love seeing the candles flickering inside. I used pumpkin-scented candles inside so they smell wonderful. But you can also use battery-operated candles too!

Boho Cottage Mantel Ideas: Add Items at The Bottom of Your Mantel

You can add some items at the bottom of your mantel too! Items like lanterns are great to include below. I had these lanterns on my porch and brought them inside for this mantel. I have battery-operated lights inside of the lanterns so they glow at night, along with the pumpkin string lights and votives. It feels so cozy at night with all of the candles and lights shining!
