Caring For Wood Floors – and How You Can Help Plant Trees with Pinterest

I love the wood floors in my new/old office.

The floors are from 1905. They’re beautiful pine — with 15-foot planks. Each plank is free of knots — turns out it’s nearly impossible to buy that kind of wood now! Luckily the owners through the years had covered the floors with carpet, except in the kitchen. With a lot of hard work, we sanded and stained them – it took about 2 months and three different kinds of sanding power tools since there was layers and layers of linoleum and tar glue on top of the wood. (More about how we refinished them in another post.)

They’re beautiful and I love them. But what I did not expect was how hard it would be to keep them clean.

I have tried several different cleaners — but what I found works the best for me is Murphy Oil Soap. It contains 98% naturally derived ingredients — and doesn’t leave any residue. I had lots of streaks and dullness left behind when I tried other products. (When Murphy’s Oil Soap contacted me about spreading the word of their new  Repin. Reforest. Pinterest page, I agreed — since it’s actually something I use and I love the idea of planting new trees)

Murphy Oil Soap has partnered with The Arbor Day Foundation as part of its We Save Wood™ campaign to generate awareness of the importance of tree conservation and education. We can all support this “Repin, Reforest” cause by visiting the Repin. Reforest. Pinterest page.

With each repin of an image from the page, Murphy® Oil Soap will donate $1 to The Arbor Day Foundation to help plant trees in forests across the U.S.

That is awesome!!

I hope you can join in me TOMORROW for a fun Twitter chat with Murphy Oil Soap at 9 pm EST.

We are going to be talking about DIY Decor and also giving away THREE fabulous prize packs. It’s going to be awesome!

I pinned a post from a blogger I follow using Murphy’s Oil Soap to clean paint brushes…and it worked amazing!! The brushes I tried it on were old and useless (don’t know why I still had them, I must have been waiting for that miracle brush cleaner! Well, I found it!!), I was ‘floored’ by how soft and clean the brushes turned out! I love this product!
I’ve visited their board, follow and have pinned, what a wonderful thing Murphy’s Oil Soap is doing.

Do you know if the furniture already has a residue on it will the Murphy’s help to clean that off? My dining room suite was my great grandmother’s and I am debating on refinishing it and repairing some of the broken pieces, but until then I want to keep it clean and well cared for. I noticed last weekend that its sticky so I tried cleaning it simply with dawn soap and water but it didn’t really do the trick.

      Hi Sheena!

Yes, it should get residue off wood. I have been using it on my wood floors and it has been great at getting gunk off. I would try it.

I’ve used Murphy’s for years to clean my hardwood floors, but it is amazing for something else as well.
Several years ago, my daughter left a tube of lipstick in her jeans pocket. You guessed it. Through the washer. If that wasn’t bad enough, I had a pile of white socks that were still a little damp, so I combined the lipstick load (I hadn’t noticed it, or maybe it blew up in the dryer) and the socks in the dryer. What a mess! I think every single item had lipstick on it somewhere! In the end, what worked was scrubbing each individual stain with some Murphy’s, then washing everything again, without a tube of lipstick. Every bit of lipstick came out! It has not happened again, thank goodness, but I NEVER run out now. Fantastic stuff!

My daughter is always leaving stuff in her pockets. I can’t tell you how many tubes of Chapstick we have washed. My son was recent very mad at his sister because her Chapstick ruined his white shirt in the wash. My oldest left a cutie in her pocket a while back, luckily it didn’t bust.
