Anthro-inspired T-Shirt for $4

Tatertots & Jello is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com.
I am always on the lookout for stylish, cute t-shirts for the Summer. One of my favorite stores — Anthropologie, recently had a great t-shirt they were selling. But for almost $80 I wondered if I could find a way to make something similar for a fraction of the cost.
I bought two t-shirts on clearance for $2 each. I bought one for the t-shirt and one to cut up for embellishments.
Materials Needed:
2 T-shirts
Matching thread
Button Cover
Coordinating fabric scrap
Scissors
Thread
Sewing Machine
Liquid Stitch
  1. Take your two t-shirts. Cut one t-shirt into three — 3 inch-wide strips by 4 foot long sections. {You will have to sew the sections together to make long enough strips}
  2. Fold the strips in half length-wise.
  3. Pin one long length of fabric on the shirt – forming a wave pattern.
  4. Sew that length of fabric onto the shirt. Keep the seam in the middle of the fold with the exposed edges outward.
  5. Do this with all three sections, sewing each one on separately, one on top of the next.
  6. When all three lengths of fabric are sewed on the shirt, cut a length of material 4 feet long by 2 inches in width and pull it on both ends until it is stretched out and thin. Then make a big loop with the material 4 times around and tie it in the middle with a small length of material. Spread it out so it looks like a flower. Sew the flower onto the shirt.
  7. Take a button cover and cover it with the fabric scrap. Use Liquid Stitch to secure it to the shirt.
So now I have a fun, one-of-a-kind shirt at a fraction of a price. It’s a great project for a Summer afternoon! If you want to see some amazing t-shirt refashions, check out my friend Megan’s blog — Brassy Apple. She has the sewing skills!!!

One would need to have mad sewing skills to do this, but I'm so amazed at how inventive and thrifty you are. I would wear my $4.00 (?) tee shirt into Anthro and make sure to tell them you made it when they ask……and they will ask.
