The first thing that I did was sand off the peeling paint. {I thought this would take a few minutes, but really it took about an hour or so}.
After I had it sanded, I used Ivory Krylon’s new Dual Paint + Primer Spray Paint. I liked the idea of a spray paint that is both a primer AND paint in one.
Once the bench was painted and dry, I taped off the bench, exposing the strips that were going to be YELLOW.
Then I got to the pretty yellow paint. One thing I noticed was that the yellow paint seemed to cover more than the Ivory did. But that might have been because I had already painted underneath the yellow with the ivory.
So overall I am really happy with Krylon’s new Dual Paint + Primer. The paint stayed on my bench even underneath all of that tape. I liked that you don’t have to use separate paint and primer with this product, although the Ivory did take quite a few coats to cover.
And you can win an iPad by linking up YOUR spray painting project!! You can find out more at Krylon’s Dual Duel site.
Krylon sent me the new Dual Paint to try out. Check out their latest promotion, The Dual Duel, where Krylon is looking to find The Ultimate Restorer. To win this title, enter your spray paint restoration project and encourage friends and family to vote for your project as their favorite for their chance to win too.

I love it! It definitely looks cheerful sitting out there! You've given me some ideas for a few old pieces that I have sitting around.
If you were extra ambitious (which, um, you are) you could tape it off again at Christmas time and change the stripes for the season…

Really cute!
Girl. Sanding always takes about 3 times longer than you think it should.
Or, if you're me, it takes about 30 times longer. 🙂

This is beautiful! I have an old bench sitting outside that I've thought about trying to do and this seems like a great idea. How did you sand in between the slats? Is there an easy way to do it?

Question completely unrelated to the bench (almost); how did you add the word "hello" onto that adorable pillow. Was it a stencil?? It looks fantastic!

The bench is awesome, but what I really want to know is how hot is it there? I live in West Texas and it is so hot right now, you couldn't do an outdoor project at 3 o'clock in the morning.
