Moving into the 1905 Cottage has made me so happy. The first rooms I wanted to finish were the bathrooms. The whole cottage is light and bright with white walls and focal points brought in through tile and wood walls in both planking and board and batten. So this month’s theme for the Better Homes and Gardens (BHG) Live Better Network – “on the move – decorating a new space” – is perfect for my new bathroom!
I headed to Walmart to see what BHG items would go with this white modern cottage aesthetic. I loved the BHG grey and white towels. The fun animal and geometric prints bring in a modern and happy vibe. Mixing the two patterns works because they are both the same tones of grey and white. Instead of a traditional towel rack, I hung an inexpensive hook rack. It’s an easy way to hang more towels and they always look good hung on the hooks instead of trying to line the towels up on the traditional rack when you are in a hurry.
I also love the foam bathroom mats that I placed in front of the double sinks. They are so comfy!! My kids keep trying to steal them for their bathroom downstairs! And …
One of my favorite elements in the room are the BHG bathroom word set – its’s so quirky and still neutral.
And another element I adore is the wire, rolling laundry hamper. It’s classic and fits the style of the cottage perfectly!
I put some of the coordinating washcloths in a little basket. Keeping them out on the counter makes clean up a breeze.
In the shower I added a metal stool to make shaving legs easier. It also brings in a different color and texture to the space. Because it’s metal it is able to be exposed to the water and moisture of the shower.
Along the back wall I tiled the wall to coordinate with the tile in the shower. This adds interest to the wall and also continuity. Behind the vanity cabinet I added simple planking and traditional storage vanities that pop out. It gives so much subtle storage.
But I think my favorite element of the room is the BHG ceramic elephant nightlight. It is so pretty on its own, but when you plug it in it GLOWS!! I leave it on at night and it shines the way when I need to get up. Ella also wants one.
To bring some color into the room I added fresh flowers – I love incorporating natural elements into a room. It seems so fresh and makes me happy!
Here’s a picture of the master bathroom laundry closet. I’m in the middle of working on a herringbone wall that will go along with the grey and white theme in the adjoining master bathroom.

Oh my. What a beautiful new and modern bathroom. Did the cottage originally have a clawfoot tub?

So we live just down the street from you- and I have to know who you used for plumbing in the bathroom! My FIL bought a very similar tub and so far 2 plumbers say they don’t know how to do the plumbing for it. WHAT?! 🙂
Any suggestions you have would be great!
