Make a Vintage/Modern Recipe Card Holder – with Free Printable!

Here’s a little gift idea that makes a great wedding gift, a Christmas present or even a gift for yourself!

A Vintage/Modern Recipe Box.

Plus, free printable recipe dividers too!

Here’s how to make them:

I started off with these simple unfinished wooden recipe boxes.

  • I spray painted the boxes.
  • I printed off the “Recipes” vinyl on my Silhouette and reversed out the vinyl and stenciled the letters with craft paint.
  • I sanded down the edges to give the box a vintage feel.
  •  I took some lace and wrapped it around the middle of the box.
  • I made up some printable recipes tabs if you want to use them. Once you print them off, just trim around the edges and put them in the box.

You can fill the box with a few of your favorite recipes too — that would make a wonderful gift! Another idea you can make, is instead of stenciling the word “Recipes” on the top, you can put the couple’s initials on the front.

And here’s the printable — just download and print on cardstock!

Have a Happy Day!

xoxo

  1. What a great project. Thank you for sharing. I’m planning on doing this project with a large group of high school girls soon. I have all the materials needed except the stencil for the word, Recipes. I was wondering if you made your own or did you purchase it? If so, where? Thank you for your help!

  2. I am making a recipe box as a gift for the bride, and all those attending the bridal showers will be bringing recipe cards. I am so thankful that I found this. Olive been stressing about how I was going to find a cute box to put the personalized cards in. Thank you!!

  3. Hey, this is gorgeous! How did you glue the pendant on the wood?

  4. YES! Thankyou! I’ve been searching for a way to store my garden seeds in an attractive way. Right now, it’s in shoe boxes. I had not thought about searching at a craft store for unfinished wood boxes. Believe me, I’ve searched high and low to find a metal or wood box that I could use in a storage system. Something that would be attractive so I could keep them easy to access (much like my recipes). You are an inspiration!

  5. I, too, want to make one of these as a gift. Was wondering what font you used for the recipe divider card headings… if it’s available, I can match the font when I print new headings.

Thanks for sharing this great project!

  6. Love this! I am making all my granddaughters recipes for Christmas and I have been looking for a cute recipe holder!! By the way where did you find those darling measuring spoons.

  7. SO cute! I love those cards!!

  8. This is so adorable! Love this vintage recipe box and very inexpensive as well! Great stuff :)

  9. Your recipe boxes are fantastic!! I love seeing the creative process and what a difference the brooches make in your design!

  10. What a great project! I can’t wait to make a couple for gifts. Thanks for sharing.

    • I think they make a fun gift. I was also thinking they might make a cute jewelry box. You could line the inside with a little batting and silk fabric, and then make some wooden dividers for different types of jewelry. I might try that next.

  11. Where did you get your boxes from?

    • Hi Amanda!! I bought them from Hobby Lobby. They are $6.99, but if you use your Hobby Lobby 40% off coupon you can get them for $4 each. And if you have a smart phone, you can bring the coupon up on the phone and they honor it. I do that all the time. Thanks for the comment!!

  13. So pretty!! In fact, way prettier than my old, beat up recipe box. I love anything with bling! :)

    • Thanks Amanda!!

Same here! I hide my old recipe box away. I think I will have to make one for myself. I love the way it looks on my shelf in my kitchen. Thanks for the comment my friend!!

  14. That is absolutely gorgeous!! I am so doing this as a housewarming gift for a friend of mine. It also gave me the idea that you could use that washi tape I’ve been seeing lately as a border as well. Gee, the Mr will love that. Spools and spools of tape for yet another obsession! ;)

    • I love the idea of using washi tape Anele! If you do that will you send me a picture or link to the post. I would love to feature it!! And I love the idea of giving one as a housewarming gift. Your friend will love it.
