Living In France: Scrappy Canvas Frames project!

Hi Everyone!
I’m so excited to be a guest poster for Jen, I promise I will try not to mess up!
Thank you Jen for allowing me to soil your perfectly crafty blog be a guest poster today.

First, you all have to know that I’m not a crafty blog. I’m jealous of crafty blogs. I do posts once in a while about crafts that I’ve done because I’m so darn proud of myself. Pathetic? Yes. I know. I just wanted you to know this so that you don’t click over and read and then say, “Impostor! Where’s the crafts?” However, please do come visit me!

Onto the craft and the inspiration behind it.
One thing I’ve gotten addicted to since having my 2 little boys is picture taking. Thousands and thousands of pictures.
I love to display pictures that I take of my kids and random shots of cuteness. I especially love the perfect snapshot. You know the one….you take a picture and you don’t think it’s gonna be a good one until you get it on the computer and realize you’ve gotten the elusive money shot.
But, alas, I’m lazy. I don’t like changing the pictures out of frames. Who has time to take the frame down, undo the latches, clean the glass, put the picture in and replace everything with two little monkeys dancing around your feet? Not me. That sounds like I’ve brought laziness to a whole ‘nother level, no?

I came up with these Scrappy Canvas “Frames” that I am loving right now!
I got a 10X10 blank canvas from Michael’s. You can use any size canvas you like, I also really enjoy using the 11X14 size.
I pick out a nice piece of scrapbook paper that will look good with or without a picture covering it.
I cut the paper to size and use Mod Podge to adhere to the canvas.

Then, if you’re like me, you realize you wanted the edge painted black and you got ahead of yourself. So you get the black paint out and paint the edge.

Let everything dry for a while…this is acrylic paint and it dries really fast. Apply another coat of Mod Podge and wait for that to dry as well.
Now you’re ready to attach some ribbons in the corner to hold the photograph. I didn’t take any pictures of this step because I’m skeered of the staple gun and I was sure I’d shoot myself if I tried to get a good shot of the process.
Here is the finished product! I added an embellishment that says “perfect”.
What I really like is that it’s pretty enough to be left without a picture if you are in between snapshots or waiting for new pictures to arrive.
Of course, I like it best with the “perfect” shot in it!
It’s so easy to just pull the picture out and replace with your new favorite!

Thank you again, Jen! I really feel like the kid who has only played T-Ball and was asked to pinch hit for Derek Jeter today!

Thanks Mimi! You are the best. Go over to Living in France and say hi! Mimi has a hilarious Friday meme — called *f-bomb Fridays* where you can share your hilarious incidents that go wrong. So funny!
