DIY Chalkboard Menu Idea

Hello, Tatertots & Jello readers! We couldn’t be more excited to be here at TT&J sharing a few chalkboard projects with you all today. I am Amy, and I blog with two of my closest friends at 11 Magnolia Lane. There we share our home DIY and decor hits {and sometimes misses!} mixed in with some recipes, parties and entertaining.

So, today I am talking about chalkboard paint. I know, it’s EVERYWHERE! And we love it, and haven’t grown tired of it. We thought we’d share our version of some versatile hanging tags and a menu sign that can be used again and again. I’ve also just revealed my ‘HUGE GIANT CHALKBOARD PROJECT’ on our blog this week so this was the perfect complementary project!

The first project I am sharing is this sweet little menu board I came up with to use when I entertain. If I happen to be feeling fancy when I entertain, I often design little paper menus to go on the table, but now all I have to do is erase the board to get it ready for the next time.

I used a thin wood plaque (pre-cut in this shape) from Michael’s {FYI, at my store they were in the spring section, not with the other wood craft items} and just gave the board a few coats of chalkboard paint with a foam brush.

Then, I found a graphic I liked online. I used a french wreath graphic via The Graphics Fairy for the outside then printed “menu” in a font I liked on the inside. I did it on my computer but you could just as easily print each graphic then cut and paste them together.

Then, I placed the paper right on top of the painted chalkboard plaque. Using a sharp pencil I drew over the lines of the graphic on the paper, pressing harder then usual so there would be a groove in the wood.

The possibilities for these are endless–gift tags, drink tags, signs for the house, labels on baskets…I know I will be making more! This one is decorated for Easter.
