DIY No-Carve Monogram Pumpkin is the Easiest Pumpkin Craft

Fall is all about pumpkins! Whether you’re decorating your front porch, adding a touch of fall to your mantel, or looking for a fun crafting activity, pumpkins are the ultimate fall decor item. Over the past 17 years that I’ve been blogging and creating content, I’ve crafted literally hundreds of pumpkin projects. From painted pumpkins to fabric-covered pumpkins, I’ve tried it all. But this project? It’s one of my favorites! Not only is it super simple and quick to make, but it’s also a perfect craft to do with family or friends. I recently made these DIY no-carve monogram pumpkins with my mom and sisters, and we had the best time together. If you’re looking for a fun, personalized fall craft that requires minimal supplies, this is it!

Six Best DIY Pumpkin Crafts

And today I am joining five friends who are sharing the prettiest pumpkin to make! Be sure to scroll down and PIN the tutorials to make later!

Supplies You Will Need

One of the best parts about this DIY project is how few supplies are needed. Here’s what you’ll need:

• Faux pumpkin
• A napkin with a design you love
• Matte Mod Podge
• Gold thumbtacks
• Pencil

That’s it! These are probably items you already have around the house or can pick up at your local craft store. It’s budget-friendly, which makes it even better.

Step 1: Trace Your Monogram

The first step is to trace the letter you want to monogram on your pumpkin. You can either freehand it or print out an example of the letter to trace. I like to use a straight edge for any straight parts of the letter and something round, like a cup or small plate, for the curves. Here’s a helpful tip: don’t center the letter! When you place your pumpkin on the floor or a surface, the top part of the pumpkin is the most visible. To ensure your monogram is seen, trace the letter slightly higher than the center of the pumpkin.

Step 2: Apply the Thumbtacks

Once your letter is traced, it’s time to start applying the thumbtacks! This step is incredibly satisfying. I’ve found that it’s easiest to center the thumbtack on the lines instead of trying to line up the edge of the thumbtack with the line. This technique makes the lines appear much straighter. Another tip – to make it easier to control, you can put the pumpkin between your knees to steady it while you insert the thumbtacks (see my cute mom below).

Start at the top of your letter and work your way down and across. You can choose between two different methods for applying the thumbtacks:

• Uniform Rows: Follow the traced line and apply the thumbtacks in straight, even rows. Place the second row so that the edges of the thumbtacks just meet.
• Mermaid Scale Rows: Start with one row of thumbtacks along the traced line. Then, for the second row, slightly overlap the first row, giving a layered “mermaid scale” effect.

Both methods look beautiful, and you can decide which one you prefer! In the photos of my pumpkins, you’ll see that one of the “J” monograms has straight, uniform rows while the other “J” features the mermaid scale look. Both give a unique touch!

Step 3: Cut and Prepare the Napkin Design

Now that your monogram is done, it’s time to move on to the decorative part of the pumpkin. Pick a napkin design that you love. Florals work beautifully for this project, but any design will do. Before you cut out your design, be sure to peel off the backing of the napkin so you’re left with the top, printed layer.

Once you have peeled the napkin, carefully cut around the design. If you’re working with florals, cutting around the individual flowers and leaves gives the pumpkin a more intricate and delicate look.

Step 4: Apply the Napkin with Mod Podge

With your cut-out napkin design ready, it’s time to adhere it to your pumpkin using Mod Podge. Here’s a key tip: use matte Mod Podge instead of glossy. Matte Mod Podge dries clear, while glossy can leave a shiny residue if any goes outside the edges of your napkin.

Start by applying a thin, even layer of Mod Podge slightly smaller than the napkin cutout. Press the napkin onto the pumpkin, smoothing it out as you go. Then, fold back the edges of the napkin, apply more Mod Podge to the pumpkin’s surface, and press the edges down. This ensures that the entire napkin is securely adhered and lies flat on the pumpkin.

Repeat this process for all of the napkin designs you want to apply, whether it’s one large design or a few smaller ones placed around the pumpkin.

Step 5: Let It Dry and Enjoy!

Once you’ve finished applying the thumbtacks and napkin designs, let your pumpkin dry completely. It usually takes a few hours for the Mod Podge to dry, but once it’s set, you’re left with a beautiful, personalized pumpkin that’s perfect for fall.

I love how versatile this project is! You can create a monogram for each family member or experiment with different napkin designs for a truly unique look. The combination of the gold thumbtacks and the delicate napkin art adds a touch of elegance to your fall decor.

One of the things I love most about this project is that it’s perfect for a group craft. Whether you’re doing it with your kids, friends, or family, it’s an easy, fun, and mess-free activity. What I Wish I Had Known About Menopause 10 Years Ago!

If someone had asked me ten years ago what menopause would be like, I probably would have said, “A few hot flashes and then you’re done.” Oh, if only it were that simple!

What surprised me the most wasn’t just the physical changes. It was how different I suddenly felt. I wasn’t sleeping well, my energy wasn’t the same, building muscle became harder, I gained weight, and I realized I needed to take care of my body differently than I had in my thirties and forties. The good news? Once I stopped trying to fight it and started learning what my body actually needed, things got so much better!! Here’s what I looked like before I started taking care of myself and my health. I had gained weight and felt overwhelmed with what was happening to my body… I also was losing hair. You can see my widening part.

I’m certainly not a doctor, and what works for me may not be the right fit for everyone. But I wanted to share the things that have honestly made menopause easier for me in case they help someone else. As I start this new chapter of life as an empty nester, one of the things I’m most excited about is sharing the products, routines, recipes, and little everyday habits that make life after 50 healthier, happier, and a whole lot more enjoyable. I truly believe this can be the very best chapter of our lives. And we need to take care of our bodies and protect our bones so that we can lead a happy independent life as we age. Seriously!

Why Protein Matters During Menopause

If there’s one thing I wish someone had told me sooner, it’s how important protein becomes during menopause. As estrogen declines, we naturally begin losing muscle mass, our metabolism slows, and maintaining strength becomes more challenging. Eating enough protein helps support muscle, keeps you feeling full longer, supports healthy bones, and gives your body the building blocks it needs to age well. Since I’ve been making protein a priority, I honestly feel stronger and have more energy throughout the day. We also need to be moving our bodies!! Walking is good for your body and mind AND it keeps your bones strong. No one talks about what happens if you don’t keep your bones strong. If you break a bone when you get old that can end your independent life.

Protein Powder

One of the easiest ways I’ve found to increase my daily protein is with Collagen Peptide Powder. I love that it combines several different protein sources instead of relying on just one, and it’s easy to mix into a smoothie or shake. I put it in my morning coffee. On busy mornings, it’s an easy way to start the day knowing I’m already making progress toward my protein goal.

This one surprised me. I always thought creatine was something bodybuilders used, but it turns out it’s becoming one of the most recommended supplements for women over 50. Can we normalize talking about this? Seriously.

This is one of those menopause topics that women whisper about, but it shouldn’t be. Vaginal estrogen can help with dryness, discomfort, and urinary symptoms that become much more common after menopause. It’s a localized treatment, and for many women it can make an incredible difference in everyday comfort. And makes a HUGE difference for intimacy. Let me know if you have any questions about that. NO ONE told me about this ever… If you’re struggling, don’t be embarrassed to ask your doctor about it. I wish someone had mentioned it to me years ago.It’s best to start on it before menopause so that your lady bits don’t dry up down there. Seriously…… There also are some over-the-counter ones that are not as strong you can get online.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

Hormone Replacement Therapy has also made a huge difference for me. I know it’s not the right choice for everyone, but after talking with my doctor and weighing the benefits and risks, I decided it was the right option for me. It has helped with sleep, hot flashes, mood, and simply feeling more like myself again. If menopause symptoms are affecting your quality of life, it’s worth having an open conversation with your healthcare provider. One other thing that no one talks about with estrogen. Did you know that approximately 75% of postmenopausal women become incontinent over the age of 65!!!!! That is because of declining estrogen levels. Also, there used to be a pushback from doctors for women to go on HRT, but there have been studies that have come out recently showing their previous findings about higher rates of breast cancer are not accurate. You can also help prevent incontenance through pelvic floor exercises. So do those evry night, ladies!! Let’s keep our bodies strong as we age!!!!

Magnesium Glycinate

If I could only recommend one supplement for better sleep, magnesium would be near the top of my list. I take Magnesium Glycinate every evening as part of my bedtime routine. It helps me relax after a busy day, and I notice such a difference when I stay consistent with it.

Intermittent Fasting

Ok this might be a controversial one but it is something that has really helped me. I did a lot of research and decided to try it. I’ve been practicing intermittent fasting for about two years, and it’s become one of the habits I’ve added to my life during menopause that has really made a change in my body. I usually eat within about a six-hour window, although I’m not rigid about it. If a friend invites me to lunch or there’s a special family dinner, I absolutely enjoy it. Life is meant to be lived, and I never want healthy habits to become stressful. For me, intermittent fasting isn’t about perfection. It’s simply a framework that helps me feel my best most days.

One of the reasons I became interested in intermittent fasting was the research on autophagy, which is the body’s natural process of cleaning out old or damaged cells so healthier new cells can replace them. Researchers are still learning exactly how this works in humans, but it’s fascinating to think that giving our bodies a break from constantly digesting food may support healthy aging, metabolism, and cellular repair. Whether it’s the fasting itself or simply being more intentional about when I eat, I’ve found that I have steadier energy throughout the day and don’t feel like I’m constantly reaching for snacks.

One thing I do every morning is have my coffee. I know a lot of people think intermittent fasting means skipping everything until your eating window begins, but I’ve found a routine that works well for me. I add my protein powder and spirulina powder to my morning coffee, and it’s become one of my favorite little rituals. It helps me start the day with a boost of protein and nutrients, which is especially important during menopause when preserving muscle becomes a priority.

Another unexpected benefit has been how much more mentally clear I feel. Menopause brain fog is real, and if you’ve ever forgotten why you walked into a room or completely blanked on someone’s name, you’re definitely not alone. While intermittent fasting hasn’t completely eliminated those moments, I do notice that when I combine it with eating enough protein, getting good sleep, strength training, and staying hydrated, I feel sharper and more focused than I did a few years ago.

The biggest thing I’ve learned is that there isn’t one magic solution for feeling your best during menopause. It’s all of the little habits working together. Eating enough protein, moving my body, getting quality sleep, managing stress, and following an intermittent fasting routine that fits my lifestyle have helped me feel stronger and healthier. And that’s really my goal these days. I’m not trying to be perfect. I’m simply trying to take care of this body that’s carried me through so many wonderful seasons of life, so I can enjoy this next chapter feeling as healthy and energized as possible

My Nighttime Routine for Better Sleep During Menopause

The hardest part of menopause for me hasn’t been the hot flashes or even the brain fog. It’s been the lack of sleep.

There were nights when I’d wake up at 2:30 or 3:00 in the morning and stare at the ceiling for hours. The next day I’d feel exhausted, and then the cycle would repeat itself. It wasn’t until I became intentional about my evenings that I finally started sleeping better.

Around 8:30 each night, I’ll have a container of high-protein Greek yogurt. It’s an easy way to get a little more protein before bed, and every bit helps when you’re trying to maintain muscle during menopause.

Around 9:00, I make myself a cup of Passion Tea and take my magnesium. That’s usually my signal that work is done for the day.

Then I start slowing everything down. I dim the lights, put my phone away, wash my face, do my skincare routine, brush my teeth, and change into my pajamas. Instead of scrolling social media, I usually read a few chapters of a book or just enjoy the quiet.

By the time I climb into bed, the room is cool, the sheets are fresh, my favorite pillows are fluffed, and my body knows it’s time to sleep.

It isn’t a perfect system. I still have nights when I don’t sleep well. But creating a consistent nighttime routine has made a world of difference, and I’ve learned that good sleep doesn’t just happen anymore. I have to create the conditions that help it happen.

Here’s to Our Next Chapter

If I could go back and tell myself one thing ten years ago, it would be this: menopause isn’t something to fear. It’s simply another season of life, and like every season, we learn as we go.

For me, that has meant eating more protein, moving my body, asking questions, finding products that genuinely help, and giving myself a little more grace.

As an empty nester, I’m discovering that this chapter is full of possibilities. I’m creating a home I love, taking better care of my health than ever before, and learning that it’s okay to put myself on the list, too.

One of my favorite parts of blogging has always been sharing the little things that genuinely make life easier, prettier, and more enjoyable. Before social media became what it is today, blogs were where we swapped recommendations with friends. Instead of burning the wick, the warming bulb gently melts the wax and fills the room with fragrance. The one I’m using has several brightness settings, so it doubles as a beautiful ambient lamp in the evenings.

I love that I don’t have to remember to blow out a candle, and my favorite candles seem to last much longer.

It’s one of those little luxuries that makes everyday life feel just a little bit calmer.

Fall, with its vibrant tapestry of colors and crisp, cool air, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful seasons of the year. As leaves cascade from trees in hues of red, orange, and yellow, there’s a sense of wonder that fills the atmosphere. Capturing this natural beauty and bringing it indoors is a delightful way to celebrate the season. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to create your very own felt leaf beaded garland—a charming craft project that allows you to customize the colors to match your fall decor.

Supplies You’ll Need:

1. Wood beads (how many depends on the length you want your garland to be.)
2. Twine or string
3. Felt sheets in various fall colors (red, orange, yellow, and brown)
4. Hot glue gun and glue sticks
5. Leaf template (download our free template)
6. Scissors
7. Optional: Regular glue for a kid-friendly version

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

Before diving into the crafting process, gather all the necessary materials and set them up in a clean, well-lit workspace. Make sure your felt sheets are large enough for the leaves you plan to create and that you have a variety of beads to choose from.

Step 2: Download and Cut the Leaf Template

We’ve created a free leaf template to make this project even easier for you. Download and print the template. Then, carefully cut out the leaf shapes. These templates will serve as a guide for creating your felt leaves.

Step 3: Trace and Cut Your Felt Leaves

Place the leaf template onto your chosen felt sheets and trace around it with a pen or chalk. Repeat this step for as many leaves as you’d like to include in your garland. Once traced, carefully cut out the felt leaves along the marked lines.

Step 4: Add Beads for a Touch of Elegance

Now, it’s time to add the beaded accents to your felt leaves. Heat up your hot glue gun and prepare to attach beads to each leaf. Place a small dot of hot glue on the backside of a leaf and press a bead onto it. Continue this process, arranging beads in various patterns or styles on each leaf. Experiment with different bead sizes and colors to achieve the desired look.

Step 5: Create the Beaded Garland

To assemble your garland, cut a length of twine or string to your desired length, leaving a little extra for hanging. Using your hot glue gun, attach each felt leaf to the twine. Be sure to space the leaves evenly along the twine. This process not only secures the leaves but also allows you to adjust their positioning to your liking.

Step 6: Decorating Your Space

Now that your felt leaf beaded garland is complete, it’s time to find the perfect spot to display it. I chose to adorn my mantel with this charming garland, but you can let your creativity run wild. Hang it over a doorway, drape it on a shelf, or use it as a table centerpiece—the possibilities are endless. This garland will infuse your space with the warm, inviting colors of fall.

DIY Plate Rack Wall with Scallop Molding

As many of you know, we’ve been in the process of restoring our 1891 home for the last six years, and I’ve been dreaming of creating a giant plate wall in our kitchen for almost as long! Well, I finally did it, and I’m so excited to share it with you today! It all started with the perfect scallop molding, which I used to give the plate rack a little extra charm. If you want to see more ways to use scallop molding, be sure to check out my 12 Ways to Add Charm to Your Home with Scallop Molding post. But first, let’s dive into the details of this DIY plate rack project! (I’ll link to the scallop molding here for your convenience, but you can also find it on Amazon.)

Materials You’ll Need

For this project, I gathered the following materials:

• Beadboard (for the back of the plate wall)
• Painters tape (to mark where you want the plate wall)
• 1×3 boards (for the frame around the beadboard)
• 1×2 boards (for the shelves)
• Small metal brackets to go in the middle of each shelf to hold more weight.
• Thin square molding to hold the plates against the frame
• Scallop molding (for the top and front of the shelves)
• Paint (Rustoleum French Beige spray paint)
• Quart of satin French Beige paint (color matched to the spray paint)
• Nail gun
• Chop saw
• Stud finder
• Measuring tape (for precise measurements)
• Foam 4-inch roller and tray (for smooth paint application)

One of the best parts about working on this project was the convenience of having Home Depot cut the beadboard for me! It made things so much easier, and I highly recommend this service if you’re looking to save time. I also used a chop saw to cut the moldings and a stud finder to ensure everything was securely attached to the wall.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare the Wall

I started by using painter’s tape to mark out where I wanted the plate wall. I knew I wanted it to be quite large and cover most of the wall space, so I made sure to leave plenty of room for the plate rack to take center stage.

Once I was happy with the layout, I went to Home Depot to get the beadboard cut to size. If you’re unsure about the measurements, no worries! They’ll cut it to your specifications.

2. Attach the Beadboard to the Wall

I used a stud finder to locate the studs and nailed the beadboard to the wall, ensuring it was secure. I went around the edges of the beadboard to make sure everything was fastened tightly.

3. Build the Frame Around the Beadboard

Next, I used 1×3 boards to build the frame around the beadboard. I cut the pieces to size and nailed them in place using a nail gun. For the shelves, I used 1×2 boards, which I cut to 40 inches wide. After that, I made sure to measure and cut everything carefully. I didn’t bother mitre-ing the edges; instead, I made sure the longer boards covered the shorter ones at the top and bottom so the seams weren’t visible from the sides of the plate rack. This step was key for getting that clean, polished look! Then I added the shelves. I used 1/3’s for the frame and 1×2’s for the shelves so they would be recessed within the frame and not stick out. I used a harder wood for the shelves so they can hold more weight. And then I added small metal brackets to the center of each shelf. The brackets are covered up by the scallop molding.

4. Add the Scallop Molding and Small Molding

Now, the fun part—adding the scallop molding! I used 30-inch pieces of the molding, which I placed across the top of the plate rack and in front of the shelves. To make the plate rack feel more balanced, I added the scallop trim to the center of the shelves as well. I also cut extra scallop trim pieces for the sides using a chop saw to give it that perfect finish. I attached small square molding to the front of the shelves about 4 inches above to hold the plates and platters against the rack. I used two nails on each end of the molding to hold it in place. Then I used wood filler to cover up the nail holes.

5. Painting the Plate Rack

Once the frame and shelves were all set, I went ahead and painted everything with my new favorite color—Rustoleum French Beige. I used a spray paint to cover the surface, and for the grooves of the beadboard and the edges, I used a small brush to get into every nook and cranny. I applied three coats to make sure everything looked smooth and even. Tip: to get the exact shade I wanted, I also had the spray paint color matched and purchased a quart of satin French Beige paint for a consistent finish on all the pieces. I used a foam 4-inch roller for a smooth application.

Styling the Plate Rack

Once the paint was dry and everything was secure, it was time to style the shelves! This is my favorite part of the project, and I love how the plate rack adds so much charm to our kitchen. Not only does it look great, but it’s also super functional for storing cutting boards, platters, and other kitchen essentials. I’m especially excited to style it for the holidays!

Now for the fun part—styling the plate rack! I decided to go with a mix of cutting boards, small paintings, and vintage plates to create a cozy, curated feel. Here’s a look at some of the items I used to decorate the plate rack:

• Wooden cutting boards in various sizes and shapes
• A few small vintage plates for a charming touch
• A couple of art prints for some personality
• Ceramic bowls and dishes for balance

1905 Duplex Update

I’ve been spending time with my mom this week working on the 1905 duplex. It’s looking so cute. We are going to rent it out for a while until the renters move in and I will share a link to it as soon as listing is live! Super bright and colorful and such a happy space, it’s been really fun to work on this 1905 historic property. We did a lot of renovation, including taking out the original cabinets and opening up the kitchen we added warm walnuts countertops, gold hardware, and Industrial faucets that looks so pretty.

We added black and white tiles to the kitchen to add to the Vintage vibe. Another thing that we added was dishwashers which really updates the property. We also added washer and dryers which are so nice to have for people who are staying long-term and short term. Here’s what it’s looking like so far:

Teen Photo Scavenger Hunt Game Printable Checklist 

Easter is fun when your kids are small. You might think the fun ends as they get bigger, but in my opinion holidays can be even more fun with older kids.

An Easter Hunt for Tweens and Teens

All you have to do is tweak your traditions so that they are fun for older kids too. So instead of a traditional Easter Egg Hunt, why not put a twist on it with an Easter Photo Scavenger Hunt??

Teen Photo Scavenger Hunt Game Printable Checklist 

This is a fun idea for teens because most teens have phones with built-in cameras. And you can break people up into teams, so if you have kids that are too young for phones you can pair them up with teens or adults who do have phones with cameras. Another idea you can use if you have people without access to phones with cameras, is to use Instax cameras.

No Preparation is Necessary for This Fun Photo Hunt

All you have to do is give each team a copy of this outside photo scavenger hunt game and let them scour the neighborhood. Once they find an answer to a clue, they simply take a picture of that clue. I also am going to hide eggs throughout the neighborhood, especially around clues so the teams can be on the lookout for eggs too. I found the cutest bunny bags – pink and white for the teams.

And once the teams are all back you can go through the photos to see what the teams came up with!! The fun part of this is your kids (and their friends) will have fun photo reminders of their scavenger hunt adventures.

Print the Photos Off and Add Them to Your Albums!

You can also print the photos off and give them out or even put them in inexpensive photo albums as a party favor. I will put ours in our Family Home Photo Book – where I keep track of all the fun things we do as a family.

You Can Give Out Different Prizes So Everyone Wins

Also, once the teams are back and you have all looked at the pictures, you can give out Easter Prizes. You can give everyone the same Easter prize OR you can break out the teams into different category winners. Such as:

• A prize for the team that gets back the fastest.
• A prize for the team with the most creative photos.
• A prize for the team with the silliest photos.
• A prize for the team that finds the most eggs.
