Fall is the perfect time to spruce up your outdoor space! Even if you don’t have a porch, maybe you have a back patio, a terrace or a balcony. Use what you already have to make an outdoor space to enjoy the fall weather!

5 Ways to Create an Outdoor Room

Bring the indoors outside and enjoy cooler breezes and fall sunshine. Look around your home. Maybe you have a chair that would be ok outside in the fall weather. I actually have two of these egg chairs. One is inside in our family room. I brought the other one outside to go on our porch. We love sitting in it and seeing the happenings in our neighborhood.

Add Comfy Pillows and Throws

Fall weather can be unpredictable. Add some soft pillows and warm throws for those chilly afternoons and evenings. Our porch is covered so I can use regular pillows, but if you have an uncovered outdoor space, add some pillows made out of all-weather material or material that is easily washed.

Lanterns Create a Magical Space

Lanterns are one of my favorite ways to bring a cozy fall feeling to our porch. You can use lanterns with real candles or add battery-operated candles in your lanterns. There are also candles you can buy that have timers and timers that you can select which make using them super easy!

String Lights Add a Special Glow

I also use string or fairy lights on our porch. I bought little copper fairy lights last year when we moved in and they’ve been up every since. I love the soft glow that fairy lights give a space.

Rugs Elevate Your Outdoor Space

You might think of rugs as an indoor item, but rugs outside can really elevate your outdoor area. I put a round outdoor rug under our double swing and I love the way it complements the bohemian style of our cottage porch. On the other side I used a black and white stripe which complements the pillows on our round egg chair.

Add a Table to Your Seating Area

I also love using tables on our porch. I have a side table next to our double swing and a larger table next to the egg chair. We use the swing and large chair when we work and my kids use them when they are doing schoolwork. So having a place for their computer or for a drink or plate makes it easy to turn our porch into a school and work space during the day!
