Nautical Summer Cottage Wreath. Turn a pair of jeans and a couple Dollar Spot items into a cute summer wreath with a nautical twist!
Nautical Summer Cottage Wreath
I love creating wreaths! The days are getting warmer and I am excited to decorate our new #1891AvenuesCottage for Summer. One of the first projects I created was a nautical summer wreath. I used items I had onhand plus a couple of items from the Dollar Spot.

Turn a Pair of Old Jeans into a Summer Cottage Wreath
When I started creating this wreath I didn’t have any fabric to use to cover the wreath form. Since we are staying home due to the pandemic, I really wanted to use what I had. I went through our clothes donation pile and found a pair of old ripped up jeans. I thought denim would be cute as a summer fabric. And I love upcycling old things!
Dollar Spot Summer Items
I popped in to pick up a prescription at Target the other day and grabbed a few of their new summer Dollar Spot nautical items. The boats are so cute! I think they are also available online. For $3, these boats are such a great deal. The picture frame is also from the Dollar Spot, but you can use any small picture frame for this idea.
Cut Denim to Cover Wreath Form
I cut the jeans into long strips about 3-inches in width. Then I put a dab of hot glue on the wreath form and wrapped the wreath with the denim fabric, overlapping each time I wrapped. I used about 6 lengths of denim out of the jeans I cut up.
Cover Picture Frame Front with Denim
I used a patch of left over denim to cover the front of the picture frame. Hot glue at the edges secured the denim to the glass on the front of the frame. Thicker letters have adhesive on the back that attached well to the denim. If the covering you use is paper or plastic you might want to hot glue the Thicker letters on that type of material.
Use “Thicker” Letters to Create a Saying
I wanted to say something like “welcome” or “Hello Summer” to put on the front of the picture frame. Since the wreath is nautical I thought “Welcome Aboard” was perfect! I used “Thicker” scrapbook letters to spell this out.
Add a Bow to the Top of the Wreath
Cut two or three coordinating ribbon and create a bow. Hot glue the bow to the top of the wreath.
Hang the Frame on the Wreath
Attach ribbon, rope or beads to the frame and connect it to the center of the wreath. I strung some beads on thin rope and attached the rope to the sides of the picture frame. Then I hot glued the beads to the top of the wreath, right under the ribbon.
Glue a Boat on the Wreath’s Side
I took one of the $3 wooden boats and hot glued it to the side of the wreath. Then I hung the wreath on our new mantel! I can’t wait to show you the whole mantel and planked wall project. I love it!
