I was asked to create a project based on the NEW Oz the Great and Powerful Movie. So fun!! Have you seen it? We watched it the other night and LOVED it!! It has some of our favorite actors in it and the colors and effects are amazing.
The thing that really touched me was the message of being able to reach your true potential. Not to spoil the plot for anyone who hasn’t seen the movie yet, but in one of my favorite scenes Glinda (played by Michelle Williams), tells Oscar (played by James Franco) “You’re Capable of More Than You Know”. She sees his potential and urges him to look inside himself and see it too. For my project, I wanted to portray this idea of being the best person you can be, but also the beauty and sense of adventure in the movie.
I loved the quote and I really wanted to create a project using the quote for my home. I ended up making two projects — one is a stenciled pillow cover and the other is a printable version of the project.
To make the pillow:
Supplies:
1 yard of white duck cloth fabric
Fabric Paint – gold and silver
Fabric Glitter (optional)
vinyl and vinyl cutter or stencils
I made gold bubbles on the pillow cover and the printable – they represent the bubbles that Glinda, Oscar and China Girl ride in as they explore the land of Oz.
Directions:
- I cut out the front of the pillow cover 1″ bigger than my pillow insert.
- Then I designed the “Bubbles” and wording using my Silhouette machine.
- I cut out the bubbles and lettering of vinyl with my machine.
- I laid the bubbles first on the fabric and stenciled them in with my gold fabric paint.
- Once dry, I peeled the vinyl off the pillow cover and then laid the lettering vinyl stencil over the top.
- I then stenciled the words on the pillow cover.
- After that I applied a layer of Fabric Glue over three of the bubbles — which represent the three bubbles in the movie that transport Oscar, Glinda and China Girl.
- Then I sprinked gold fabric glitter on those three gold bubbles.
- After the glue was dry, adhering the glitter to the bubbles, I sewed two side to the back of the pillow cover and inserted the pillow form.
I also made a printable. It is 8-x10 and you can either print it out on your home printer or send it down to a printer like Kinkos to be printed. I love the positive message this quote gives.
I love the inspirational and affirming message of this quote from the movie.

I love this! I printed it out and with the guidelines, it won’t fit in my 8×10 frame…it ends up being too small. So do you by chance have a pdf of this printable without the cutting guidelines? Thank you!
