Here’s a quick update on the kitchen makeover —
the cabinets are painted!!
And last night I added a little detail with some beadboard open shelving.
It’s so easy to do!!
All I did was take two cabinet doors off.
Then I bought a sheet of beadboard.
I measured the openings of the cabinets, and the Home Depot guys cut it for me.
So easy!!
A sheet of beadboard was $20 and I used less than a third of a sheet for this cabinet.
I bought a sample size of paint — less than $3 for the paint and got myself an instant kitchen focal point!
The color I chose was Martha Stewart Rainwater.
I painted the beadboard and then placed it behind the shelves.
The shelves hold the beadboard in place. So I didn’t need to even attach the beadboard with adhesive.
Such an easy project.

I am so excited about this Kitchen Makeover.
I can’t wait to share the whole thing with you!!!

PS — Another fun “Summer Social” project coming up in the morning from one of the funniest and awesome bloggers around 🙂

I love these colors an your kitchen! Today, I went to Home Depot to buy some Martha Stewart Rainwater paint and it was a muted dirty light green, nowhere near this beautiful bright light blue/turqouise. On the hunt now for a similar color!
I love what you’ve done here. About the white paint on the cabinets… what type of paint finish is it? semi-gloss, eggshell, satin, flat, or enamel? I’m repainting my dark cabinets white, but stuck on what type of paint would look best. Thanks for any advice.
Thanks for the great tip! I love the inexpensive and EASY DIYs. This would be a REALLY fun idea for my kitchen 🙂 Cheers!
I just wanted to let you know I used one of the photos on this post as my inspiration for my kitchen (Monday’s post) ;0)
The color you chose is beautiful. This is such a great tip for renters. Great idea! I can't wait to see the rest of your redo too!
It looks just gorgeous Jen! I am dying to see the final makeover! 🙂
Looks great Jen! I was thinking about doing that to a few of my cabinets. I like that it does not have to be secured with adhesive or nails which will make it so much easier for the next update. Sounds so easy – just the way I like it! I cannot wait to see the full reveal!

What a great idea. I can see that a bit of paint went a long way in changing the look of the room. I can't wait to see the rest!
Jen that looks awesome! I can't wait to see the finished project! We have beadboard behind the shelves in our playroom:)
Looks great!! Question…did you put beadboard below the cabinets too? I'm looking for an inexpensive way to do a backsplash I the whole kitchen and wonder if this may work? If so, any suggestions on type of paint to use for easy clean up of spills and splatters?
Cute idea! I love that it was as simple as removing a set of doors to make it have that kind of vintage-y look to it! thanks for sharing!
This turned out great! We are planning on using beadboard for our kitchen backsplash after we tile our kitchen countertops. I just love it!
So excited for you! My kitchen remodel is still one of the BEST decisions ever. LOVE my kitchen!! Can't wait to see the reveal. 😉
I AM SEEING WHITE…. IN THE KITCHEN… OHHH' LOVE.
i LOVE that beadboard M.S. color, it reminds me of the Krylon Catalina Mist that used and that is amazing. That whole wall and display looks so cute.
Can't wait for the full makeover. Have a good one friend, winks-jen
So pretty! I love how simple it was to do, too. Thanks for sharing.
Oooookay, then. (clunk!) Sorry, just fell off my chair. This is genius, my dear! So pretty and architectural – I LOVE IT!

Looking SOOO good Jen!! I can't wait to see the whole thing!

I looooove it! The pop of blue really makes the whole area stand out. Really, really lovely. 🙂
Okay, I have never found the Home Depot staff that helpful. Who do you ask? Does is cost extra for them to cut it for you? I can think of all kinds of things I could use this for – if someone else would cut it!!!
Ask someone in the lumber department. It doesn’t cost extra and you can get as many cuts as you need. 🙂
I absolutely LOVE that color! It was my second color choice, and I'm not just pulling your leg here….I chose Endive instead. Can't wait to see your finished kitchen. Cheers!

That looks wonderful, Jen! Love the color! I really like that you didn't have to use adhesive or anything on it.
What a wonderfully and attractively you arranged your shelves. It is very impressive work for me, because I am very lazy to do it.
