Project Organization 2011 — Drawer organization in 15 minutes that won’t slide around!!

from the side
I am not naturally a very organized person,

but there have been so many wonderful projects floating around the blogworld lately that have really inspired me to try to get my home a little more orderly.
from the side
I’d love to share my latest project with you –
My $6 Makeup Drawer Makeover!!
My makeup drawer is always a mess. I am embarrassed to show you the before picture – it is terrible. Basically all of my makeup, lotions and toothpaste is shoved in a drawer. This drawer definitely needed a makeover!
I found these containers at my local Dollar Tree.
A couple months ago I saw this post from Kusak’s Closet that inspired me to use velcro!
I picked some up at Walmart — $2.
clean it out
So I cleaned out my drawer – finally!!
on the bottom
And then I put a few pieces of adhesive-backed velcro on the back of each of the Dollar Store containers.
put in the drawer
That way when I slide the drawer in and out, the containers stay in place. Such a good idea!!
from the side
I divided the containers up according to – tooth care, lotions and creams, foundations and concealers, brushes and makeup applicators.
bowls lip gloss
And I put a couple of stainless steel bowls with velcro on the bottom – one for lip glosses and another for  tweezers and trimmers.
another view
Ahhh. It feels so good!! I showed my husband and he said he has never seen my makeup drawer looking like that in all the time we’ve been married – HA!
This velcro trick would work great in any type of a drawer – from your office, to your kitchen to your craft room!
 Easy No Slip Drawer Organization
Happy Organizing!!

  10. Molly Smith says:

This is such a clever idea, Jen. Isn't it amazing what we find out we can do without, when cleaning out the makeup drawer. Love the velcro technique! ~Molly

  11. Ivonne Loving says:

  12. Ivonne Loving says:

  15. Love it! This is very similar to the vanity drawer makeover I did a few months ago – even the same Dollar Store containers (but I chose black!) So glad to see that the idea works for others too.

I'd love for you to stop by my blog for more orgaizing ideas!

  16. Michelle @ Loving Every Second says:

  17. Laura Ingalls Gunn says:

    So simple yet super fantastic!

  18. Sue (Someone's Mom) says:

I love the Velcro idea…haven't tried that one!

  19. This is yet another reason why The Dollar Tree should be sainted. I am totally doing this.

  20. Marizabeth says:

Brilliant! I do organize my drawers with little baskets (cheaper than ugly plastic organizers and easily customizable!) but they always slid around. Velcro is such a genius way to nip that in the bud. Thanks!

  21. Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

OK… I am seriously impressed with the velcro! That really makes things stay put I bet! Thanks for sharing this great idea!

  22. Monkey Sews says:

Love the velcro idea! I really need to go to the dollar store soon! The metal is nice, much better than my plastic!

  23. The sad thing is that the BEFORE picture looks BETTER than my make up drawer. LOL

  24. This is such a great idea! It also gives me an excuse to weed through my massive collection and toss the junk!

  25. Otter Hill Designs says:

Love the velcro trick. Very clever.

  26. I love the idea of organizing, but how do you keep those little hands from just dumping the baskets? It's not the organizing for me…it's the maintaining!

  27. Jen,
I especially admire the velcro dots on the bottom!
I am featuring this as part of the Idea List tomorrow on http://www.stashhappy.com

  28. What a great idea! And the dollar store is my favorite place for stuff like this!

It was so good to meet you at Creative Estates by the way! Love your blog.

  29. beccasblog says:

This came just in time for some much needed spring cleaning. Thank you! I have three drawers in my kitchen that have taken on a life of their own. It's time to take back the drawers!

  30. Oh I wish I had drawers in my bathroom.

  31. ok, i so do this with my drawers, but i haven't put velcro on the bottom of them…adding that to my list of things to do! love it, thanks for sharing !!!

  32. Jensamom23 says:

This is brilliant!!! I guess I have no excuse now for letting the junk drawer stay so disorganized!! 😉
    Thank you!! xoxo

  40. The dollar store is such a great place to pick up storage pieces. The drawer looks amazing. Good Job!

  41. I need to get some of that velcro. My containers are always sliding around in the drawers. I wish I could find nice containers like those at our dollar store. I'll have to keep looking.

  42. Angie @ Thrifty Like Me says:

Such a good idea! I'm definitly going to do this!

  43. I need to organize so bad- make-up drawer, the girls' bathroom drawers, and worst of all-my craft closet. It's getting scary in there!

  44. miscellaneousme says:

    What a wonderful idea!

  45. Dixie Mom says:

Looks great! Post a picture in a month and see it helped to keep you organized!

  46. I love this idea, and I would love to do it, but alas…our bathroom is so small that it doesn't even have a drawer. All my stuff sits on a tiny bit of counter space (I suppose I should just be grateful that we have that!). Thankfully I don't have that much makeup/accessories, but I'd still like a different solution…like buying a house. :0)

  47. Amanda @ Serenity Now says:

It looks great, Jen! I like things organized, but I have a hard time staying on top of everything. It's hard to juggle everything, isn't it?? Your drawer makeover looks great. I bet it makes you smile each time you open the drawer. :)

  48. I love the new organization!! My next project is to tackle organizing all the kitchen drawers!!

    Kelli @ loveoursimplelife.blogspot.com

  49. What good ideas! My kitchen drawers are in desperate ned of organization, and I'm totally avoiding the "junk" drawer. It's scary!

Your mini makeover looks great – thanks for sharing!

  50. Prudently Painted Vintage says:

I have seriously been telling myself for a month now that my bathroom drawers need to be organized. This just gave me some inspiration. Thanks so much!! Love it :)

  51. Love this because it's not permanent… and since we live in military housing, well this is wonderful! I just won't be able to fit all my stuff into one drawer! I'm a bit of a product junkie.

  52. CannyCole says:

awesome! I love that you added the velcro to the bottom…that has been my mistake all along. I always put in trays and they slide everywhere, and all my stuff ends up getting loose in the draw anyways! Good tip! Thanks for sharing.

  53. brilliant Jennifer! will have to give this a try!

  54. ❀❀❀Ðαωᾔ❀❀❀ says:

Great idea, and it looks so much better. I'm sure you will find thing more quickly now also.

  55. Louley's Belles says:

Very inspirational. I have been on a clean out organizational kick lately and lost motivation. I think I found it again. Thanks!

  56. Dyche Designs says:

What a great solution . . . my drawer looks even worse than you're before shot so it could definitely use a little organization. Thanks for the tip.

  57. I seriously need to do this! I have 3 small drawers full of makeup. You have inspired me to go through it and organize it! Thanks!

  1. […] Via: Tatertotsandjello  […]
