HAPPY Holidays: DIY Gold Deer Head Wreath

Hi, I’m Emily from 52 Mantels and I’m so excited to be here today, sharing a SUPER simple holiday DIY. Seriously, anyone can make this easy Gold Deer Head Wreath. I put it together in just a matter of minutes (plus drying time, of course)!

I’ve been eyeing this paper mache deer head at my local craft store (Michaels, to be exact), for some time now. For my holiday decor, I decided to snatch one up! I paired him with some paint and a fresh boxwood wreath from Trader Joe’s (at $9.99, the price can’t be beat!) and I had myself a festive wreath for my Christmas mantel. A little rustic, a little shiny…perfect for this year’s look!

DIY Gold Deer Head Wreath

Supplies:

paper mache deer head

white acrylic paint

liquid gilding in gold (or metallic color of choice!)

paint brush

fresh boxwood wreath (or faux wreath, if desired)

fishing line

Step 1: Prime paper mache deer head by painting with white acrylic paint. Let dry completely.
Step 2: Brush on gold gilding, covering deer head completely. Let dry.
Step 3: Attach fishing line (or twisty tie) to hanger on the back of the deer head. Hand deer head from the center of boxwood wreath.
Step 4: Step back and admire! 🙂
See? SUPER simple! Sometimes we need a quick and easy craft project, don’t you think?
I hung my wreath in the center of my chalkboard with more fishing line. Then I added a fresh Trader Joe’s garland on my mantel, with one string of lights. My stockings were the final touch to this year’s Christmas mantel. And, I love it! Simple, rustic and shimmering.
