Make Fool-Proof Original Art for Your Home
Have you ever seen those abstract paintings that are so cool and wondered if you could make something like that? They are harder to recreate than you might imagine. In my Bedroom Makeover I really wanted to incorporate my paint palette into the room with an original canvas. Make Fool-Proof Original Art for Your Home.
I spent two days working on different versions and ended up painting 4 different paintings. The one that I liked the most and ended up using in the room was by FAR the fastest and easiest of the four that I created.
Make Fool-Proof Original Art for Your Home
I’d love to share with you how to make fool-proof original art for ANY room in your home. And another nice thing about this idea is that you don’t need a lot of expensive supplies. Oil paint and supplies are pricey and they are worth the investment if creating art is something you plan to do long-term. But if you are looking to create a one-time masterpiece, skip all of those pricey materials and do what I did. I used the same paint I used on the wall to create my giant canvas. I also used plain ordinary paint brushes. The only supply I bought specifically for this project is a finishing clear, topcoat.
Here’s how to create fool-proof original art for your home!
Make Fool-Proof Original Art for Your Home
Supplies:
Canvas
Paintbrushes (one for each color you are using)
Paint
Topcoat
Cheap plastic Sheeting
Directions:
I laid my canvas on a table and covered the table and the floor under the table in cheap plastic paint sheets to protect the table and floors.
Decide what colors you want to use in the canvas.
The trick of this technique is having the paint drip in stripes down the canvas.
Separate the canvas out into the number of stripes you want and then paint the canvas while it’s laying flat in those colors, use lots of paint.
I used a separate paint brush for each color because you need to paint the stripes pretty quickly before the paint dries.
Now gently prop the canvas up on the table. I put a chair behind the canvas and propped the canvas against the chair.
The paint should start to drip down the canvas.
If the paint isn’t dripping fast enough, add a little more paint and direct it down with you paintbrush.
You don’t want the paint to drip down too much or it will cover up all of the colors except for the top color. So if it is starting to drip too fast, decrease the angle that the canvas is sitting or lay it down flat again.
Once the canvas has dripped the way you want it to be, lay it down and let it dry until it is completely dry. Mine took about a day to dry.
Once the canvas is dry, add a clear topcoat over the whole canvas and sides of the canvas and it will look like oil paint.
Hang it up!
I really love the way the painting brings all of the paint colors in the room to life. I hope you will try making something for YOUR home!
