Here’s a little Thanksgiving project I made up this morning.
{Kind of fun for this time of year.}
{Gobble Gobble Pillow}
I made it with my Silhouette and Heat Transfer Material. But you could print out the letters and make a stencil too, then stencil the words on your pillow with fabric paint.
I used the other side of my Pretty Witch Pillow — I’m frugal like that. They are cotton Ikea pillow covers. I was going to use orange heat transfer material, but I didn’t have any, so I used Turquoise. It matches my couch 🙂
Here’s what I did:
1. Create the gobble pillow in Silhouette’s Studio program.
2. Reversed out the text – so it will work with the Heat Transfer material.
3. Print out the letters with the Silhouette.
4. Peeled off the negative material, revealing the letters.
5. Printed out one Gobble out of the different colored material.
6. Arranged the words on the pillow cover.
7. Ironed the words on the pillow covers.
So fast and easy!
Now I have a whimsical pillow cover to celebrate Turkey Day!
{and it’s a little non-traditional, but I’m a little crazy like that LOL!}
xoxo
PS — Here are the Silhouette files , if you want to use them. I used 9 inch heat transfer material. So I printed out the first sheet of two rows of gobbles, then one more row of gobbles and lined them up with the first sheet and then printed out the last gobble in turquoise.
Melissa Foust says
I love your couch! Is that a re-upholstered cover? Or where did you get it? I need!!!
Ann Marie says
Very non-traditional, but very much awesome. 🙂 I loved this, and thanks for the tip on the IKEA cushion covers, I had no idea about them and am adding them to my shopping list.
Hope all is well, can’t wait to party tonight 😉
Jen says
Ann Marie » Thanks!! You will love the Ikea pillow covers – they are awesome!!

So cute. My fingers are crossed that you are going to be doing a Christmas one. Do you know if the heat transfer would work with burlap?? I have some ideas but was wondering about that before I ordered it.
Jen says
Hi Carrie! I am almost 100% sure that Heat Transfer will work with burlap. I haven’t tried it but I think it will work. Yes, designed a Christmas pillow tonight 🙂

This is adorable, Jen! What a cute, whimsical, and fun accent for Thanksgiving. I don’t have a Silhouette machine, but seeing this kind of project makes me think I would really like one!
I just made a Thanksgiving pillow myself–but mine is awfully simple compared to yours. Sharpie on dropcloth! 🙂
Jen says
Richella @ Imparting Grace » Thanks Richella!! I think you would like one, you can so much with it.
I am excited to see your pillow. I will be right over 🙂

Michelle says
I love this project! Could you please upload the Silhouette file. This would make a great first time project using the heat transfer material!
Jen says
Sure – I will do that today Michelle and add it to this post. I think Heat Transfer material is my favorite material to use with my SIlhouette – it’s really easy to use. Just be sure to iron it on all the way. Depending on the surface, it can take some time to get the material to adhere to your fabric. Peel it off slowly.

What a great idea. I still have the Silhouette SD and I need to use it more.
Jen says
Donna – you could totally make this with the SD. I used 9 inch wide heat transfer paper. So I printed out two lines of gobbles and then another line and lined them up on the pillow cover 🙂

Heidi Ferguson says
Today I spent forever cutting out freezer paper letters for my own Christmas pillow project and it was kind of a nightmare (until I finally figured it out.) But even when I painted it carefully, the paint still leaked through the smaller letters…I think heat transfer would have been the better option (and for some reason I totally didn’t think of that.) Of course I’m sure you are an expert at freezer paper stenciling..you are the stenciling guru. Great job on yours!
Jen says
Thanks Heidi!! I think heat transfer is so much easier than stenciling. Good job on your pillow! I can’t wait to see it!!!
