This month as part of the Michaels Makers Team we were asked to share our 2015 craft resolutions — and one of mine is to keep my craft space organized!

January Creative 2

So I visited Michaels to get some inspiration. They had all kinds of cool craft storage systems and supplies for DIY storage. I was looking for something specific: While the #1905Cottage expansion is still underway, my new craft room is not ready yet. (Does any renovation actually happen on schedule?)

But I created a cool, compact way to get organized with this easy card & gift tag station!

It’s a perfect way for me to have all of my gift tag and card supplies in one place. My girls can use it for gifts for their friends, too!

It’s full of Valentine’s Day colors and supplies now, but I can change it out for the seasons. After Valentine’s Day I’ll switch out the supplies for spring!

Here’s what I did:

For storage, I found the cool wood crate you can see in the picture above and stained it with gel paint.

I also found chipboard boxes (I love the texture!) — including a valentine’s box with a slot in the top. To store the ribbon, I just threaded the ribbon reels around a pencil , threaded the loose end of the ribbon through the slot in the box, and then slipped the ribbon reels inside the box. Voila – easy ribbon dispenser!

These chipboard boxes came in all kinds of useful sizes. I used them to store small gift bags, paper, embellishments, clips, pens, stamps, punches, tape, cardmaking supplies and more. It’s so much easier to make a quick, cute card when everything’s in one place!

The chipboard boxes worked perfectly for organizing small items both inside and beside the larger crate.

I found these great “hello” gift bags at Michael’s – fun for little “thinking of you” gifts or Valentine’s goodies.

I couldn’t wait to put it to work — and the girls are ready to make some projects, too!

In fact, I already put it to use working on a Valentine’s wreath!

Back home and working on some Valentine’s Day projects 🙂 ❤️❤️❤️ #happy #1905cottage

It’s so hard to find desk organizers you like, so it’s great that you made one yourself, exactly the way you like it. Looks great!

Cuuuute! I can never find desk organizers that I like when I’m actually looking for them. Love the idea of staining it to match your preferences and using the chipboard boxes to make it fit your needs.
