Over the weekend I had a fun time finishing up our Halloween/Fall Porch.

5 steps to the perfect front porch

Here are 5 Tips to help you create a Striking Front Porch!

halloween black and white felt wreath at tatertots and jello

1. A Fall Wreath or Door Hanging can add color to your door. I made this festive Halloween wreath with knit fabric, felt and vintage buttons. I will share the tutorial and a FREE template to make the flowers tomorrow! I also added paper medallions over the doorway for even more festivity!!

add a rug to the fall porch

2. A rug adds color and texture to your porch. I found this rug at Ikea. It was affordable and colorful. I love the polka dots too!!

3. Add layers of greenery and texture to a planter. I found some mums, plus greenery with different textures to add some interest to my plain planter.

add a bench to your porch

4. Add a seating area. This is a bench I made out of a crib headboard that I found at the side of the road a few years ago. I’ve painted it a few different colors so far. I love the turquoise.

5. Add some pillows to the seating area. They will soften the area up — and add color too! I add the Numbered PB knock-off pillows I made a few years ago. the “3” and “1” make a perfect Halloween “31” for the season.

Where to start? I just love everything on your porch! The pop of color and the pillows, wow!

I have a funny question….do you spray your pillows with anything to keep them from ruining from the rain and such?

      October 9, 2013 at 11:27 PM

Hi Jenny! My porch is covered and pretty deep – so I don’t really get any moisture on my pillows. But you could use some Scotchgaurd on yours – I think that would work really well!

That porch looks fantastic. I really like the pillows. I may steal that idea for a lot of holidays, not just Halloween.

Beautiful! I need to do a screen capture and take it to Michaels and Target so I can buy the items. I am TERRIBLE at coming up with anything like this – I need something to replicate. Thank you!!

I think its great that you use the front porch as an area to decorate for the holidays. Most people just do inside but your home now looks inviting.

Porch is so cute..you’re black and orange paper hanging medallions are just what I’m looking for to spruce up my front door! Did you make these or are they store bought? I would love to make these. I’m sure I already know the concept on how to make one, but the 2 tone is throwing me off…if you made these, is there any way you could do a short tutorial? Thanks in advance!!
