Happy Holidays: Merry Minestrone Christmas Soup in a Jar

Hello! It’s Aimée and Bettijo from Paging Supermom, and we are so excited to share with you this fabulous neighbor gift idea. We definitely love all the delicious holiday goodies (especially these wreath cookies things or this orange butter), but with sweet treats a plenty, how super would it be to bring a healthy and delicious dinner to all your friends?

Our festive Merry Minestrone Christmas Soup in a Jar recipe includes all the makings (except water) of a scrumptious soup. Taking care of dinner will probably be the best gift ever for all those holiday-crazed mom’s on your gift list!

Here is what you need to make one jar… but don’t just make one! These are so easy to make in mass that we suggest buying a case of 12 jars and fill them all. We promise you won’t be sorry to have an extra gift on hand.

1 quart mason jar with sealing lid and metal ring

Measuring Cups
Red Ribbon

1/2 cup Rice
3/4 cup Split Peas
1/4 cup Barley
1 cup Red Beans
1/2 cup Lentils
1/3 cup Beef Bouillon
1/4 cup Chopped Onion
2 TBS Italian Seasoning
1/3 cup Pasta

TO MAKE: Place the funnel in jar and layer the dry ingredients in the order listed. Print the “Merry Minestrone” and instruction tags and cut out or punch using a 2.5-inch circle punch. Place the metal sealing disk on the jar then top with the tags and secure both in place with the metal ring. Tie on a big, red bow, and you’re ready to give. :: Download the Free Merry Minestrone Soup Tags Template

  1. I love this! Thanks for the inspiration.

  2. I’m curious about the chopped onion as well. Is this onion powder in the picture or is it dried chopped onion? Surely its not fresh right?

  3. Is it supposed to be DRIED chopped onion or can you just put onion in with all of the dry ingredients? I am definitely doing this so I wanted to make sure! :) thanks!

  4. This is a keeper! I can’t wait to make these for our neighbor gifts. My girls will have fun filling the jars!

  5. This sounds great! Only, I think I would switch the beef bouillon for vegetable bouillon if this was a neighbor or teacher gift. You never know if someone is vegetarian/vegan or just doesn’t eat beef.

  6. Great idea. I will be making up a few of these. Thanks for sharing.
    Have a creative day.
