I am always looking for all-natural ways to clean my home. And since it’s wintertime and it seems like my kids are always sick, I was excited to try making a healthy cleaner. While I want to keep everything clean (obviously), I wanted to avoid all of the chemicals, and find a little something to help my kids stay healthier this winter.
So I found an easy, essential-oil-based recipe, including Thieves. While it seems oddly named, I have loved diffusing Thieves which is known for its cleansing qualities and supporting the immune system.
Here’s the easy recipe and the (free!) printables:
Citrus Kitchen Cleaner Recipe:
3 parts water
1 part vinegar
15 drops lemon essential oil
5 drops Thieves essential oil
Mix in spray bottle and affix free, printable labels.

And here are the printables!
Just right-click this link or the image below and choose “save link as” to download the printable PDF. Just print, trim to the gray lines and stick on your bottles. If you have full-page labels, you can print on those – or just print on glossy paper and use spray adhesive. I included the recipe on the label because it drives me crazy when I have to go hunt down the recipe when it’s time to make more!
As always, these are for personal use only.
What’s your favorite all-natural cleaning recipe?

This is a great idea!
Specially the strong vinegar smell could be resolved by using white wine vinegar and original essential oils.
Lot of them are just a mixture of cheaper oil and fake scents.
Thanks you!
Looks very good idea! Perhaps the strong vinegar smell issue may be resolved by using white wine vinegar and the original essential oils. This kinds of products are offered out there, claiming to be real essential oils made from seeds, plants, etc. However, there is a lot are just a mixture of cheaper oil and fake scents. This could be the main reason why not matter how much you put in the kitchen cleaning recipe, the vinegar smell still may be prevail.
Spot On. Add slight lemon essential oil to the cleaning solution leaves the place smelling so nice. The challenge however is to find such natural and genuine products these days.

would you recommend this to sanitize baby toys? If not what is a suggested recipe? Thanks
Hi Shannon –
I have never done that since my kids are older now. I have seen that people do and I think it is safe to do 🙂

I like your site! Wanted to see if you would be open to test out my glass etching supplies for free in exchange for feedback. Will you please let me know by email? I will try to come back to this page later to see if you replied in the comments too. Shipping of the supplies will be free as well. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. I would really appreciate it Eric
I followed this to a “T” but my cleaner still seems to smell very vinegary … It fades quickly but when I spray it, it smells like I just opened a jar of pickles instead of citrus like. 🙁 Any suggestions? I use doTERRA instead of YL – but I personally feel the quality is just the same.. At least it is in every other recipe I use

Fantastic article! Thanks so much for sharing 🙂 I will share it with all my friends.
Thanks for the great recipe. Great post and pictures. Keep up the good work 🙂
Do you have to put this cleaner in a glass spray bottle? I know some of the stuff I make with essential oils specifies a glass container.
Thanks so much for this great recipe and label! I am trying to reduce chemicals in our home, too, and am always looking for new ideas. This is great!
Genius. I need to try something more green. simple green’s smell makes me sneeze like crazy!

This is exactly what I use! The Mr is always amazed at how well it cleans!
Another tip. If you have granite, don’t use that mix (it can etch over time) but a mixture of half water and half rubbing alcohol. This came straight from the granite company who said not to spend our money on pricey ‘specialty’ cleaners. Woo hoo for simple stuff you already have around the house!
