This project is brought to you from Waverly.
This Teen/Tween Hangout Room has been so much fun to work on. As my kids have gotten older, we have needed less of a play room with toys, and more of a room where they can hang out with their friends. So when my kids changed rooms at the beginning of the school year, we ended up with an extra empty room. And I thought it would be the perfect place for a hangout room!
Waverly asked me if I would like to use some of the amazing fabrics for the room and I was so thrilled. I created some new pillow covers, added fabric to a chandelier, new curtains and I recovered a beanbag chair for the room using these fabrics. I also recovered a lampshade and used some Waverly wallpaper to transform a vintage table into a media stand.
I am thrilled that my kids love the room. It is a fun place to hang with their friends, do homework and watch movies. Yay!!
I also framed some of the wallpaper and hung the frames on the wall at the entrance to the room. This might be a good alternative to wallpapering a room for people that are renting or cannot make permanent changes to their walls.

Hi there! Loving the selfie pics! How did you go about finding the camera with the definition and what frames did you use?
Where did you get those loungers?
The loungers are from Ikea 🙂
xoxo
Hi Jen! What an adorable room! I’m in the process of converting our bonus room into a tween hangout for my daughter. I am in love with those lounge chairs. I saw that you got them from Ikea, but cannot for the life of me, find them on their website.
Is there any chance you know the name of them or better yet, have a link?
These are exactly what I’m searching for.
Thanks!!!
Hi Carrie!
I am not sure if Ikea still sells those chairs. I haven’t seen them in a few years.
xoxo
Do you know where I can find the “Selfie” print that you have in the center of the wall? I want to do something similar for my little one.
Thanks
I have a printable for it on the post. Then you can have it printed on canvas through Shutterfly 🙂
xoxo
Is this printable still available? Am I missing it?
I absolutely the lounge chairs and I’m wondering how they are holding up? Are those slip covers that can be washed? Thanks for sharing!
Hi! The chairs are great! I have two slipcovers – one that is white and one that is brown and both wash great in the washing machine!
xoxo
Beautiful! My 13 year old needs a room makeover. She would go crazy for this! Definitely going to do the selfie wall. Can you tell me the colour of the walls please? Thanks,
How did you cover the beanbag sphere with a rectangle of cloth? Did you use spray adhesive to adhere it to the beanbag?
It just make the space so young and fresh for teens!
Do you happen to know who’s shutters you have? Could you post a couple of close up pics of them, including the louvers? Thx.
I LOVE this room! I have been searching all over the internet for the well rounded fabric you used for the curtains. I can’t find it. Do you know where I can order it from? Thanks!!
Hi Libby!
You can order it online from JoAnn. http://www.joann.com/upholstery-fabric–waverly-well-rounded-licorice/13442157.html
And it’s 40% off right now.
xox
Thanks! But are you sure that’s the same fabric? I found that one but it looks like black polka dots and the one you used looks like white dots? I didn’t think it was the same.
I totally agree. It’s definitely not the same fabric. It’s clearly white dots on black fabric. How sad!
Beautiful Jen! I love all the crisp and fresh looking black and white pattern with the hits of color- I am a total fabric-addict so I love seeing creative new ways to use fabric in creating a room scheme that go beyond the usual drapes and cushions!!
Thanks so much Krista!

Love this! My tweens will be getting their own rooms soon. (Until now, my girls, twins, have been happy to share.) I’ve been looking for fun bedroom decorating ideas, so I will have to show this to them!

Hi Tricia!
The chaise chairs are from Ikea. I love that they are slipcovered so they are easy to wash.

Hi Nan!
The smaller black and white fabric that I used on my beanbag chair is called Prussian Dot. The larger black and white polka dot fabric is called Well Rounded Licorice.

Thanks Jamila! I think the black and white with the pops of hot pink and yellow is so happy looking.

Love the room! Is there a source for the selfie word art or did you make it yourself?
PP – I have seen rugs like this at Ikea and Pottery Barn Teen.
Hi Lisa!
Yes, the selfie wall so so much fun to make! I have a free printable here – https://tatertotsandjello.com/2014/02/selfie-printable-canvas-portrait-wall-shutterflydecor.html.
The rug is from Ikea and it was a great deal at about $99 for a 11×14.

Love love love it. I am in the process of turning our playroom into a “teenage lounge” as my girls call it. I decided against mounting my tv as well and have diyed a cute little tv stand about the same size as yours from an aquarium stand ( I painted gold ) and the top of a dresser (painted light pink) I have a twin size bed in there for seating that I am turning into a chaise. You are such an inspiration to me and I love that u just finished this room at the same time I am working on mine! Keep up the good work!!!!
Hi Jackie!
I love all of your ideas. I can’t wait to see your teenage lounge!
xoxo
This turned out so cute! I love the rug especially and your upcycled chandelier. How fun for your kiddos! Great job, Jen!! xo
Thanks Kate!! I love that my girls love to spend time in there together and with their friends!

Smashing room. What kid wouldn’t want to hang with their friends there?
Black and white is the “in” thing I’ve noticed this year.
Bold beautiful fabrics like the Waverly ones you used just make for one popping room!
Thanks Laura!
I am LOVING black and white right now. It’s so bright and happy and graphic. I want to do my whole house in black and white!
