DIY Spring Flower Lanterns

Spring is almost here, and there’s no better way to bring the beauty of the season into your home than with a simple and charming DIY project!! These easy DIY Spring Flower Lanterns capture the essence of blooming flowers and glowing candlelight, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. This project is perfect for crafters of all skill levels and only takes about 30 minutes to complete!

Spring Flower Lantern Supplies

To create these delicate lanterns, you’ll need just a few basic supplies:

• Dried flowers
• Matte Mod Podge
• A paintbrush
• Lanterns
• Battery-operated candles

How to Make DIY Spring Flower Lanterns

The dried flower packages come in several different color schemes, allowing you to customize your lanterns to match your decor. I bought two different packs of flowers, and I still have about half left over, so one package is plenty for decorating up to three small lanterns. The best part? Each pack of flowers comes with tweezers, making placement super easy!

Step 1: Prepare Your Work Area

Before you begin, set up your workspace with all your supplies within reach. Pour a small amount of Mod Podge into a container for easy application. Make sure your lanterns are clean and dry so the flowers adhere properly.

Step 2: Apply the First Layer of Mod Podge

Using a paintbrush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to one side of the lantern. Be sure to use even strokes in one direction for a smooth and polished finish. The Mod Podge dries clear, but it will create a rippled texture, giving the lantern a gorgeous stained-glass effect!

Step 3: Place the Dried Flowers

While the Mod Podge is still wet, carefully place the dried flowers onto the lantern. Use the included tweezers to position them exactly how you want. Gently press down so the flowers adhere to the surface. The flowers are delicate, so handle them with care to prevent tearing or crumbling.

Step 4: Seal the Flowers with Mod Podge

Once your flowers are arranged, brush another layer of Mod Podge over them. This will seal them in place and protect them from peeling or lifting over time. Be gentle with your brush strokes to avoid damaging the fragile petals.

Step 5: Repeat on All Sides

Turn the lantern and repeat the process on each remaining side. Apply Mod Podge, press on the dried flowers, and seal them with a topcoat. Continue this process until all sides are complete. Allow the Mod Podge to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Step 6: Add Your Battery-Operated Candles

Once your lantern is dry, place a battery-operated candle inside. The soft glow of the candlelight shining through the pressed flowers creates a stunning effect, making these lanterns a gorgeous addition to any space in your home.

DIY Spring Moss Bunny Topiary

Spring is the perfect time to add fresh and natural elements to your home decor, and if there’s one project you should tackle this season, it’s this DIY Spring Moss Bunny Topiary! This adorable bunny is simple to make, mess-free, and will bring a touch of whimsy to your space for years to come.

But before we get started, I am joining some creative friends who are all sharing the cutest Spring DIY ideas! Be sure to scroll down and HOP over to see them!

Supplies You’ll Need

Ok — Let’s get to work! To create your own DIY spring moss bunny topiary, gather the following supplies:

• Two styrofoam balls – 12 inches and 8 inches
• One roll of moss with adhesive backing
• Hot glue gun and glue sticks
• Cardboard (for ears)
• Toothpicks or skewers (optional but make it easier to attach the ears to the head)
• Ribbon
• A cute pot – I love this textured one and I think it is on sale!

Why use a Moss Sheet instead of Regular Moss?

I chose to use a moss sheet with an adhesive backing because it makes this project incredibly easy and much less messy. Unlike loose moss, which can be a hassle to glue on piece by piece, the sheet adheres smoothly and quickly. This means you can complete your bunny topiary in no time and avoid a moss-covered workspace!

Step-by-Step Directions

Create a Flat Surface on the Styrofoam Balls

Start by using a knife to cut a small flat surface on one end of each of the styrofoam balls. This step is essential because it allows the two balls to fit securely together and helps the bunny’s head stay in place.

Cover the Balls with Moss

Now, it’s time to apply the moss! If you’re using the same size styrofoam balls I did, you’ll need just ONE roll of moss. However, to make it stretch, don’t apply moss to the bottom third of the larger ball (the bunny’s body). This ensures that you have enough moss for the whole project.

And don’t discard any extra moss that comes off the sheets! You’ll need it later to create the bunny’s ears.

Attach the Bunny’s Head to the Body

Once both styrofoam balls are covered in moss, it’s time to attach the head to the body. Apply a thick layer of hot glue to the flat parts of both balls and firmly press them together. Hold the head in place while the glue cools and dries to ensure a secure hold.

Make and Attach the Ears

Next, cut out two bunny ears from cardboard. You can make them any size you like, but I made mine about the length of the bunny’s head. Once cut, insert a toothpick or wooden skewer into the base of each ear.

To cover the ears, spread a layer of hot glue on the front of each cardboard piece and press the extra moss onto it. Repeat this step on all sides of the ears, then trim up the edges with scissors for a polished look.

Once the ears are fully covered, insert the skewers into the top of the bunny’s head to attach them securely.

Fill in Gaps and Add Finishing Touches

Check for any gaps in the moss and use leftover moss to fill them in. This will give your bunny a complete and seamless look.

Now for the fun part—decorating! Make a bow with your ribbon and attach it to the bunny with hot glue. I also placed some faux flowers in the pot around the bunny for an extra touch of spring charm. To make it even more magical, I added twinkle lights at the base of my bunny. I used lights with a timer and remote for easy setup and control!

Don’t you love making a cute project that brightens up your home? These DIY Dixie Cup String Party Lights are so bright and happy! Make some to liven up a Spring party, use on your mantel this Summer, lighten up your porch or use in a kids room. There are so many possibilities!

Free Printable Scallop String Light Template

If you don’t have a craft cutting machine, don’t despair! I have created a free template! Just download this file and then print it out. Cut it out on card stock paper and trace the template onto scrapbook paper. I covered a new set of string lights with my NEW paper line – Groovy Darlin’ which is available at JoAnn Stores right now!!

My friend Brenda at Pebbles in My Pocket created lights like these for our Pebbles booth in January and as soon as I saw them I was in love! I love the little scallops at the bottom. I used my new Patio Party line of papers – which are FULL of bright happy colors and pretty patterns. I think they are the perfect papers to use with this project! You can buy them through Brenda’s Pebbles in My Pocket store online. And they are on sale right now.

Here’s how to make DIY Dixie Cup String Party Lights:

Supplies DIY Dixie Cup String Party Lights:

Coordinating scrapbook paper (I used my new Pebbles Patio Party line)

Scallop Cover Cut File

(just download this file to your computer and use it with your craft cutting machine)

Adhesive or a glue gun

Dixie Cups

String Lights (I used these battery-operated ones)

xacto knife

Craft Cutting Machine (optional. If you want to make the scallop ones I used they are a shape through the Cricut online store. But if you don’t have a craft cutting machine, you can trace your cups onto the back of your scrapbook paper with a pencil and roll the dixie cup as you trace until you have a shape that will cover the cup. Then just cut it out!)

Scissors

Directions DIY Dixie Cup String Party Lights:

Cut out the scallop cupcake liners on your craft cutting machine. Here is the link to the Scallop Cut File.

If you don’t have a craft cutting machine, you can trace your cups onto the back of your scrapbook paper with a pencil and roll the dixie cup as you trace until you have a shape that will cover the cup. Then just cut it out!

Cut an X into the bottom of each cup.

Turn each dixie cup over and cut a small X into the center of each cut cup with an xacto knife.

Cover the dixie cups with paper covers.

Put a dab of glue on the edge of the bottom of a cup, line up the edge of the paper cover and wrap it around the edge of the bottom of the cup until the back edge overlaps the front edge. Put a line of glue along the back edge of the wrapper and hold down until dry.

String the dixie cups onto the string lights.

If your cups fall off the string, just put a dap of glue or hot glue at the edge of the X and the lights to keep them attached.

DIY Spring Topiary and Aged Pot

Spring is the season of renewal, and what better way to usher in its vibrant energy than by creating your own DIY spring topiary? Topiary and Aged Pot Supplies:

1. Terra cotta pot

• Repeat this process in sections until the entire pot is painted. The result should be a rustic, aged appearance that adds charm to your topiary.

2. Create the Topiary Base:

• Fill the terra cotta pot with green potting foam until it reaches the top, providing a sturdy base for your topiary.
• Cover the foam with moss, using hot glue to secure it in place and add a natural touch to the arrangement.

3. Construct the Topiary:

• Select a branch from your yard and trim it to your desired height for the topiary.
• Insert the trimmed branch into the center of the floral foam in the pot, ensuring it stands upright and securely.
• Place the styrofoam ball on top of the branch, creating the rounded shape of the topiary.

4. Add Texture and Greenery:

• Enhance the visual appeal of your topiary by adding texture and foliage. Trim the ends off green faux stems and press them into the floral foam around the styrofoam ball.
• Use hot glue to secure the faux foliage in place, ensuring it remains securely attached.

Spring Mushroom and Moss Wreath

Hi, friends! It’s Springtime and I couldn’t be more excited. It’s still snowing here but I am channeling all the warm spring vibes with this bright mushroom and moss wreath! Scroll down to find out how to make it!

Spring Mushroom and Flower Theme

I love a theme for Spring! I was debating between strawberries and mushrooms for my Spring front porch. When I found this mushroom doormat from Anthropologie, I decided to make a mushroom and moss wreath to go along with it! I love the mushrooms and the flowers for Spring!

Wooden Mushroom Set

As I was debating how to make the mushrooms, I found this wooden set of 21 mushrooms. I love that the set comes with so many different sizes and shapes of mushrooms. Aren’t they just so cute!! I decided to make TWO mushroom and moss wreaths – one for my front door and the other for our mantel. I am going to have a mushroom-themed mantel too for Spring! The wooden mushroom set is an amazing price at $17.99.

Supplies to Make Spring Mushroom and Moss Wreath

Here are the supplies you need to make this trendy and cute Spring mushroom and moss wreath:

• grapevine wreath
• green spanish moss
• green moss
• small faux flowers
• butterfly embellishments
• wooden mushroom set
• hot glue gun

How to Make a Spring Mushroom and Moss Wreath

Here are the easy instructions to make this happy Spring wreath!

• Lay the grapevine wreath on your work surface.
• Lay spanish moss around the wreath.
• Now layer the natural moss pieces around the wreath.
• Hot glue the spanish moss and natural moss onto the grapevine wreath. I just lifted up sections and glued everything together while it was on the grapevine wreath.
• Paint the mushrooms. I used six different colors, including gold. Then I painted the stems gold.
• After the mushrooms have dried, arrange the mushrooms on the wreath.
• Hot glue the mushrooms onto the wreath.
• Add faux flowers to the wreath.
• Hot glue the flowers to the wreath.
• Hang up your new Spring wreath!

Wasn’t that easy??

Make a Succulent and Mushroom Wreath

The second wreath I made for our front door is a little more sturdy to be outside. It still has a base of moss, but I used big plastic fern leaves on top of those to protect the moss and keep it in place since it’s going to be outside. I also used succulent flowers instead of the delicate flowers I used on the first mushroom and moss wreath.

What Colors Should the Mushrooms be Painted for a Mushroom Wreath?

I spent a long time deciding what color to paint the wooden mushrooms. I love the look of classic mushrooms with red tops and white dots. But our home and our front door is more pinks and yellows so I went with those colors. six paints I used for the wooden mushrooms are: a bright pink/red, a blush pink, an orange/pink, a light orange, a light yellow and gold. But you can use ANY color! I think using stains for the tops of the mushrooms would be super pretty and neutral too!

Easy Rainbow Butterfly Spring Wreath

I am loving rainbows for spring this year! There’s something so happy about all of the rainbow colors, especially for Spring! I made a Rainbow Egg Wreath a few weeks ago to go over our mantel. Then I made a rainbow butterfly banner to hang underneath. So as I was contemplating Spring wreaths, I knew I needed to make a matching paper butterfly wreath!

DIY Spring Wreaths

Simple Modern Rainbow Wreath

I love a simple idea. I used the same butterfly die cut and cut butterflies out in 12 different colors for this butterfly wreath.

Three Dimensional Butterflies

To make the wreath more interesting, I cut out two butterflies for each butterfly. This gives the impression of the butterfly flying! I also cut out two butterflies out of each of the 12 colors of paper. So to make the wreath the way I did you will need 4 butterflies of each color paper.

Supplies to Make a Rainbow Butterfly Wreath

You only need a few materials to make this rainbow wreath!

• 12 sheets of colored of card stock (each sheet is a different color)
• Sizzix machine. You can also use a butterfly punch or use a Silhouette machine.
• Glue Dots
• Glue Gun and Glue Sticks

How to Make a Butterfly Rainbow Wreath

It’s super easy to make this wreath! Here are the steps to make a butterfly rainbow wreath:

Pick Out the Colors

Make this wreath in ANY colors you want! You can make it in one color or dozens!

Cut Out the Butterflies

I used my Sizzix machine and the butterly die cut. I’ve used this same die cut on a few other projects. I will link to them at the end of the post. But you can also use a butterfly punch or you can use a craft cutting machine too.

Decide How Many Butterflies You Need

My wreath form is 16 inches wide. I cut out two butterflies (four total since they are 3-dimension) in each color. 12 butterflies in total.

Assemble Butterflies

Take two butterflies, fold one in half and place it over the matching butterfly. Put a glue dot in the middle of the bottom butterfly and press the top butterfly to attach them together.

Butterflies on Wreath

Arrange the butterflies on the wreath before you glue them on. Evenly place the on the wreath.

Use a glue gun and glue the butterflies on the wreath.

There are a few different ways to display this wreath. I hung it on my kitchen hood since my kitchen and family room are in the same space. I have my rainbow egg wreath on the mantel on the same wall as my rainbow wreath. But I was also thinking about hanging it on my front door. It wold be cute in a kids room too!

Spring Botanical Prints with Beaded Hangers

I love decorating for spring! There’s something so hopeful about seeing flower sprouting up. Have you ever seen vintage botanical prints? They are so detailed and pretty! I found some open source botanical prints from the 1800’s. Inspired by my new spring floral flower pillow, I cleaned up the prints and deepened the color. I love the way the prints look in our family room!

How to Make Beaded Wood Picture Hangers

I love to change things up at my house. So when I was thinking up this project I considered a few different ways to display these botanical prints. Of course you can frame them, but have you ever used wood hanging strips? It’s an easy way to display art and change it out!

Matching Spring Floral Pillow

Make Hanging Strips for Less Than Five Dollars

All you need to make these wood hanging strips are:

• Wood (I used paint sticks – they’re free)
• Magnets – use strong magnets! The ones I’ve linked here are great. You need 8 magnets for each hanger. So to hang both prints you will need 16 magnets.
• String
• Wood Beads (this is optional – I used beads I already had but you can also just use string to hang the art)
• Glue Gun – this is the glue gun I have.
• I used a light walnut stain but you can leave them unfinished or use a different stain or paint.

How to Make Wood Picture Hangers

I used free paint sticks to create these wood picture hangers. But any type of thin wood will work too!

Cut Paint Sticks to Length

Decide what size are you want to hang. These are 16×20 prints that I sent over to Walgreens. So I cut the paint sticks to 16-inches which is the width of the prints.

Stain Paint Sticks

Stain or paint the wood and let it dry. I also stained the wood beads I was using during this step. I strung the beads on string, then tied off the wood beads. 50 small wood beads for each hanger which was 20-inches long. I tied the ends so that there was about 2 inches left of string after the knot. I put the stain in a tupperware container with a little bit of water. Then I submerged the bead strands in the stain and took it out and wiped them off with a paper towel.

Hot Glue Magnets onto the Wood Strips

I tried using magnet strips for this project and the strips were not strong enough. Make sure that you get pretty strong magnets. I used two magnets about 1-inch from the ends of each wood strip. So you will need 8 magnets per picture hanger.

Hot glue String to Wood Strips

I took the left over string beyond the knots in the string and hot glued the knot behind the wood strip that faces the wall. Make sure to hot glue the knot close to the edge of the top of that strip, otherwise the wood hanger will lean forward. If you have a beaded string, you can hot glue the first bead to the top of the wood strip. This will make the hanger lie flat against the wall.

Print Out Free Spring Flower Botanical Art

I have two botanical prints to share. One with all flowers. One with flowers and butterflies! You can print them at home for free or send them off to be printed in whatever size you want!

Hang up Your Spring Botanical Prints

Attach Artwork to Wood Hangers

To attach the artwork, simply take the wood pieces apart, then lay the artwork over the top of the magnets and lay the coordinating piece with the magnets over the top. The magnets will attract each other and secure the artwork in between.

Hang them up to enjoy!

Display your new art! I love being able to switch artwork out so easily with these beaded wood hangers!

Egg Carton Spring Centerpiece

I love upcycling old tired items and giving them a new life. I’ve been doing it for years. I turned an old thrift-store picnic basket into a chic boho basket and old t-shirts into a t-shirt quilt last year. Since Spring and Easter are all about decorating with eggs, I thought it might be fun to create a centerpiece where we can showcase those pretty eggs. And what better idea than taking egg cartons and upcycling them into a gorgeous centerpiece?

8 AMAZING Egg Decorating Tutorials

I am excited to show you this fun tutorial. But first, I am thrilled to share that I have some friends who are all sharing awesome egg-decorating tutorials! Be sure to see them all at the bottom of the post and click over to see their tutorials. And pin their ideas so you can make them!!

Save Your Old Egg Cartons

You can make the egg carton wreath any size you want. The one I made uses 28 egg cartons, cut into 4-egg and 3-egg sections. But you can make any shape you want. For example,, you could make a wreath using 2-egg pieces or any combination you want. This wreath has 4 4-egg sections and 4 3-egg sections.

Trim the Edges

After you have cut out the sections for your wreath, cut around the outsides of the cartons to round them off. I also cut out the middle pieces so there are bigger holes in the middle.

Hot Glue the Sections

Arrange your egg sections into a circle. Then hot glue the sections together. After I hot glued the sections and they cooled, I flipped the whole thing over and hot glue the sections from the back. This makes the whole wreath much stronger.

Add a Base Underneath

If you are using this arrangement as a centerpiece you don’t have to reinforce the wreath. It’s pretty fragile, but I transferred it from my craft table to my dining room table by lifting it gently up and then put it on a cookie sheet to transfer the wreath. If you want to hang this wreath up you should get a chipboard wreath form and glue the wreath onto that form so it can be hung up.

Spray Paint the Wreath

This is optional. If you want a more organic look you can leave the wreath brown. Or you can also use white egg cartons. My egg cartons were the basic brown color so I spray painted my egg cartons white. I spray painted the front, then flipped it over once it was dry and spray painted the whole thing from the bottom.

Add Decorative Elements

You can add whatever you want. I added some silk flowers, some faux succulents and I even added some paper butterflies.

Add Eggs

Now you can add your eggs that you want to display.

Gild Your Eggs

I gilded some of my eggs. It’s so easy to do! I bought some Martha Stewart Gilding and brushed it onto the eggs. This is so much easier than using gold or silver leaf material and having to seal it. With this gilding paint all you have to do is paint the eggs and you are done! The paint is oil-based so use a cheap brush that you can throw away.

Hot Glue Your Elements

If you are going to hang your wreath up, now is the time to hot glue everything into the egg sections. But if you are using the wreath as a centerpiece you don’t have to hot glue the elements. You can just place them inside the egg sections and that way you can change them out each time you use it!

Add a Base and Hang it Up

I made another egg carton spring wreath and added a chipboard base. I hope glued the egg crates onto the chipboard base and then I hot glued the elements inside of the cart and hung it up!

I love making wreaths! Wreaths are one of my favorite crafts to make and I love thinking up new wreaths to create for our home!

Plaid and Carrot Spring Theme

This year our theme for Spring is Carrots and Plaid. I shared our Carrot and Plaid Mantel. And outside we have a matching theme on our Spring porch.

Layered Spring Wreath DIY

I knew I needed to make a wreath that fit in with our carrot and plaid theme. I decided to layer a couple of wreaths together. I wrapped a foam wreath with the orange gingham fabric that I had used on our mantel. Then I layered a green wreath with white flowers over the top. I found the green wreath at Hobby Lobby.

Make a Wreath in 10 Minutes!

This is a quick and easy wreath to make. It look amazing in real life and no one would know that it’s so easy to make!!

Supplies:

Larger foam wreath form

Smaller leaf wreath. This wreath can be all leaves or also have flowers on it.

1 yard of Gingham fabric or ribbon

Small moss bunny

Plaid carrots (I found them at hobby lobby)

How to make a Spring Plaid Carrot Layered Wreath

Rip the fabric into 3-inch wide strips

Wrap the foam wreath form with the gingham fabric strips.

Lay the green leaf form on top of the larger gingham wreath.

Hot glue the carrots and bunny onto the leaves of the green wreath.

Take a strip of gingham fabric and wrap it under both wreaths and make a bow.

Hang it up!
