It’s always a challenge to refresh your space for Summer. But while we always see outdoor spaces that look like Home Show displays, what do you do when you have a small space? That’s what I decided to do with the beautiful new Better Homes and Gardens products at Walmart.

I restyled this small condo patio to bring light, life and style into a cookie-cutter, relatively small space! And the Before and After Patio looks totally different!

While I already had the chairs and table, they were due for an update! So I bought these great all-weather cushions and bright, patterned accessories from the new Better Homes and Gardens Line at Walmart!

And I added my favorite piece:

The zebra cube can be used as a side table, extra seating or even as an ottoman. (it’s light, so it’s easy to move around) and the awesome owl lamp — for those warm evenings! I added some plants and succulents too!

I’m just in love with the patterns and bright colors.

I even planted a tomato plant in the big planter. Even if you are living in a condo or apartment without room for a garden, you can still have fresh produce and herbs by planting in containers! Fresh tomatoes in the summer are a must-have.

You may have seen my springtime pasta salad recipe last week using Sargento Cheese. It’s awesome in recipes, but great on its own for a quick snack, especially the new Sargento Tastings.

New Sargento Tastings [who I’m partnering with for this post] are snack sized, shaped and chosen for the perfect snack — and they’re special varieties and flavors to complement every day! They’re available soon for $2.69 in 3.25 to 3.95-oz packages in eight varieties, including Aged Wisconsin Cheddar, New Zealander, Fiesta Pepper Jack and Parmentino.

Here’s what I loved about the new flavors, and how I paired them with everyday snacks to make those snacks even better:

Aged Vermont White Cheddar 
This was a mild cheddar with a deeper flavor than I was used to. I liked it with crackers like pita crackers, and even sliced and served with apple slices.

Aged Wisconsin Cheddar 

This Wisconsin Cheddar was matured for a year and has a slightly seasoned taste. It’s made to pair with desserts; we tried it, too,with apple slices and loved it.

Bruschetta Jack 
This cheese tasted like it sounds! It’s Monterey Jack plus the flavors of bruschetta: sun-dried tomato, basil, garlic and parsley. We liked it on crisp crackers, and its creamy texture made it easy to serve.

Creamy Havarti 
We like Havarti on sandwiches because of its creamy texture and distinct taste. We loved this Creamy Havarti because it captured the classic Havarti taste but was easy to serve with the whole-wheat crackers we had on hand. I think it would be great with a rye cracker as well – capturing its Scandinavian heritage.

Fiesta Pepper Jack 
Spicy? Mexican? Sign us up. We liked this Monterey Jack variety that included four hot peppers. It was soft and buttery; we even tried it heated between a couple of tortillas for a quick quesadilla. Yum!

Medium Asiago

In my experience, a little Asiago goes a long way, but this Asiago is much milder than the only-use-a-bit I’m used to for Italian recipes. I enjoyed it in my pasta salad, of course, but it was also excellent simply paired with pears!

New Zealander (Egmont) 
This cheese was one we’d never experienced before — it’s creamy (soft) yet has a bit of sharpness. Its great consistency and strong flavor made it really good with chunks of sourdough bread – we just tore off pieces and placed small slices on top.

Parmentino 

This special Sargento flavor is a Parmesan blend. Parmesan has a very strong and distinct taste and can overpower a dish, but this blend is much milder and has a richer flavor. We liked it with the sourdough bread and also with crisp crackers.
And of course my favorite “pairing” was using these flavors in my Springtime Pasta Salad — check it out!

On a trip to Hawaii a few years ago, I discovered that self-tanners still weren’t quite what I had hoped they would be. I’ll share my self-tanning mishaps in a moment.

When I was approached by Jergens, I wanted to talk about Jergens Natural Glow because it’s a product I’ve been using for the last three years. On a trip to Hawaii a few years ago with my husband, I tried self-tanner … and made my wrists streaky. So I put more self-tanner on, and made it worse! I totally over-tanned my wrists. I even scraped up my skin trying to get it off. On the same trip, the self tanner gave me zebra-striped ankles — and I was embarrassed to be waving them around on the beach.

But I’ve been using Jergens Natural Glow for a few years and I’ve managed to avoid self-tanning mishaps.   (check out the difference between my Jergens Natural Glow left arm and my right!)

There’s no smell, which is a big win. (Nothing’s a bigger giveaway than that dreaded self-tanner smell.)

I know I have mentioned that I love Bleach Pens for taking on trips and cleaning the grout in my tile. I have wanted to try making some crafts with Bleach Pens for a while. This week I made some Holiday Napkins with my Bleach Pen.

Here’s what I did:

I used .99 bandanas from Hobby Lobby and then sewed two colorful ribbon to the bottom of the bandanas.

Then I got my Bleach Pen out. I drew some initals on the napkins and let them sit. It depends on the fabric you use and how bleached you want your monogram.

If you look on the back of your material, you should be able to see the monogram coming through. Be sure not to leave the bleach on too long — it can eat all the way through the fabric.

I waited about 20 minutes and then I rinsed the napkins out under the tap with some soapy water. My monograms are still a little pink. So I probably could have waited another 10 minutes or so to get more contrast.

Once they were rinsed out, I popped them in the dryer.

Then I ironed them and put them on the table.

My kids thought this was a pretty fun project! They want to try t-shirts next!

And if you want more definition around your monogram, you can also trace around the letters with a black paint pen.
