Do you decorate for Easter? I love an easy project. This idea is fast and only takes a few minutes to assemble. 5-Minute Spring Bunny Wreath.

I found the bunny wood cutout and the garland in Target’s Dollar Spot. Then I just added a felt ball and some ribbon and voila – a festive Easter wreath.

I hot glued everything together. The felt balls are from the felt garlands that I use all of the time. I found them in the scrapbook section of Hobby Lobby. You can use your 40% off coupon and they are about $5.

If you don’t have access to a Target, or see this post after they stop carrying these bunny cut outs, The Wood Connection has some similar bunny cut outs that would probably work as well.

I draped a couple of the felt ball garlands around my front door too. I filled some lanterns with dollar tree eggs and put them in my galvanized planters, along with some Dollar Tree flowers since it’s too cold for real flowers to survive yet. I’m really happy with my easy and inexpensive Spring porch so far!

I also made some bunny topiaries and created an easy Spring Mantel. I will share that project with you this week too! Doing all of these Easter projects really has me excited about Spring!! I can’t wait for warmer weather and Spring Break!

Create a special wreath with a wire word to bring the spirit of Thanksgiving into YOUR home!

Happy November! I can’t believe we are getting into the holidays now. For the past five years I’ve had a completely decorated tree up by November 1st. This year I am not doing that. I am in such a happy place in my life that I really want to stop and enjoy Thanksgiving this year and be thankful for all of the wonderful things in my life.

Thanksgiving Wire Word BLESSED Wreath

I thought the firs thing I would do was make a Thanksgiving wreath for our door. This is an easy wreath. I had a BLESSED plaque and I was going to hang the plaque directly on the wreath but it ended up being really thick and it made getting in the door tricky. So I took the wire BLESSED word off the plaque and put it on the wreath. While I was doing that I thought it really wouldn’t be hard to make my own word out of wire. Craft stores have thick gauge wire that comes in gold. All you would have to do is buy the wire and I don’t know if you know this but the wider wire gets at the craft store, the easier it is to bend and manipulate. So it wouldn’t be hard to buy the wire and shape it into whatever word you want! How fun is that?? You could say — welcome, hello, even your last name and hang it on a wreath!

Here’s how to make this easy Thanksgiving Wire Word BLESSED Wreath:

Supplies:

Wreath Form

Ribbon (I used two rolls of 9-yard ribbon)

Hot Glue + Gun

Flowers

Wire Word or wire from the craft store to make a word

Directions:

Wrap your wreath form with ribbon. Hot glue the edges down.

Make your wire word. Take thick gauge wire and create a word.

Hot glue the wire word onto your covered wreath.

I tied two lengths of matching ribbon on one side of my word.

Hot glue flowers around the word on your wreath.

Loop a length of ribbon around the top of your wreath and hot glue the ends to hang the wreath from your hook.

Farmhouse Fall Wreath with Paper Leaves. I love decorating our porch for different seasons. Of course Fall is one of my favorites. Although the weather is still warm, I can feel fall in the air in the evenings. And with my kids going back to school last week, I thought it was the perfect time to create a fall wreath and give my porch a little mini-makeover for Autumn!

Quite a few years ago I created a really popular wreath with fabric leaves and a decoupaged star.

It has remained one of my favorite projects. I thought it would be cool to do a newer version of that wreath and use paper from my Pebbles line!

Farmhouse Autumn Wreath with Paper Flowers

Here’s how I made this Farmhouse Fall Wreath with Paper Flowers: 

Supplies: 

Twig Wreath, or grapevine wreath and some branches

4-5 coordinating sheet of paper or you can also use fabric – I used my Heart of Home Pebbles Paper

hot glue gun

A little sign or star for the middle (I found mine at Target in the dollar section)

Ribbon for embellishment

3-4 little pumpkins

Farmhouse Autumn Wreath with Paper Flowers

Directions: 

Take your wreath and add branches if you don’t have a twig wreath

Cut different sized leaves out of scrapbook paper or fabric. If you are using fabric, you will need to have a font and back to make it heavy enough that it can stand up on the branch. So double your fabric over so you have two leaves that match exactly.

Fold your fabric leaves in half, lengthwise to make them more dimensional.

Hot glue your fabric or paper leaves onto your wreath. I made some large leaves and smaller leaves and then layered them together on the wreath.

Add your star or a saying to the middle (optional)

Hot glue your small pumpkins onto the wreath. I glued them on top of the edges of the little sign in the middle.

Add some ribbon and hang it up!

I added some yellow mums I found at Costco and some checkered pillows.

Patriotic Fourth of July Flag Wreath Tutorial 

One of my favorite holidays to decorate for is the Fourth of July. Red White and Blue is such a beautiful color combination. Last year we were just moving into our new home so we weren’t able to decorate much for The Fourth, so this year I was excited to start decorating. Our home is white and very traditional on the outside, I think it will look so pretty all decorated for The Fourth! Of course the first thing I think of making when decorating is a wreath – I love making them. So while I have been out and about I have had my eye out for fun ideas to materials to make a patriotic wreath. I spotted some really inexpensive plastic flag garlands at Hobby Lobby the other day and I thought they would be perfect to wrap around a wreath to create a Fourth of July Flag Wreath! (this post contains some affiliate links)

Patriotic Fourth of July Flag Wreath Tutorial 

I also wanted to make a statement with my wreath so I chose a huge wreath form. I think it is over 20 inches wide. And I also wanted to incorporate a wooden USA cut out that I found in the dollar spot at Target.

Here’s how I created this Fourth of July Flag Wreath!

Supplies:

Wreath form

fabric or ribbon to wrap around the wreath form

4 packages of flag garland (I found mine at Hobby Lobby)

USA cutout (optional)

Ribbon to hang the wreath

Vinyl word to put on USA cutout (optional)

Patriotic Fourth of July Flag Wreath Tutorial 

Directions:

Patriotic Fourth of July Flag Wreath Tutorial 

1. Wrap the wreath form with ribbon or ribbon strips cut 4 inches wide.
2. Wrap the wreath form with the flag garlands. Wrap one garland at a time, all the way around until the flags are dense and evenly distributed.
3. Use your craft cutting machine to cut out a word for the middle of your USA cutout. I cut out the word WELCOME.
4. Hang the USA cutout from the top of the wreath with ribbon.
5. Loop ribbon at the top to hang the wreath.
6. Hang up your wreath and enjoy it!

I think it’s a pretty contrast with our light blue door! I am excited to show you the rest of the front porch this week!!

10-Minute Summer Peony Wreath

I am excited for the weather to warm up!! I love Spring and Summer. The other day I was at Costco and I found the cutest lavender topiaries. I potted them in inexpensive galvanized containers on both sides of my front door. I love the way they look! But the purple didn’t look great with my wreath. So I made a new one. I love peonies and I thought using peonies and lavender on a wreath would be summery and pretty! 10-Minute Summer Peony Wreath

Make a 10-Minute Summer Peony Wreath

I LOVE making wreaths. My friends have often told me I could have a wreath JUST about wreaths and be happy and I think that’s true! This one is simple and it takes about 10 minutes to create!

Here’s how to make this 10-minute Summer Peony Wreath:

Supplies: 

Wreath form

2-3 spools of thick ribbon. I bought three but only ended up using two. My ribbon was 12 feet long in each spool .

3 peonies (artificial of course)

6-8 springs of lavender (artificial)

two smaller ribbon for accents

Hot glue gun and sticks

A little saying block. You can make one with a wood block and vinyl or buy one (optional)

Make a 10-Minute Summer Peony Wreath

Directions: 

Wrap your wreath with the wide ribbon, overlapping the ends of the two spools in the back of the wreath and attaching them together with hot glue.

Cut the stems off the peonies and lavender and arrange them on the wreath, then hot glue them on.

Hot glue your saying block on the wreath if you want to use one.

Add a hanger on the back of the wreath with ribbon, or wrap ribbon around the top of the wreath to hang it on your hook. My door has a hook that’s pretty high, so I wrapped ribbon around the top so it would hang down on the door. If you don’t like the look of the ribbon at the top you can add a little ribbon to the back and use that to hang it onto your hook.

Now all I need is sunshine and I am ready for Summer. Bring it on!!!

Four Ways to Decorate YOUR Door for Valentine’s Day

I love decorating for Valentine’s Day. It makes me feel a little cheerier to see the bright pinks and reds replace the winter cold. When I took my Holiday decorations down I put my red hearts up on my mantel and things didn’t seem so bare.

We love the wide porch at the front of our new home. It’s easy to add a few pillows onto the furniture for different holidays.  Here are FOUR easy ways to brighten up YOUR door and/or porch for Valentine’s Day!

 1. Add a door decoration.

I love wreaths. I found a boxwood wreath at Target on clearance and snapped it up last fall. I am excited to decorate using it throughout the year. You can hang it plan which looks timeless and classic. Or you can add things like a banner, a wood word or a fringed heart like I did for Valentine’s Day! I found this fringed wood heart in Target’s clearance section.

If you want to add another element to your door find some red or pink lights and hang them above your door. I hung these sparkly pink hearts printed on canvas. I think they look happy above the door. Another idea is this pink and gold heart banner – so cute.

3. If you have a chair on your porch or front stoop, add a festive Valentine’s pillow.

These burlap and felt pillows are favorites of mine that I made a few years ago. I love pulling them out each Valentine’s Day.

Some other Valentine’s pillows I’ve made. You can get a pillow cover and then cut vinyl out and iron it on. So easy!!

4. Add a sign.

You know how much I love making giant signs. This Typographical Valentine’s Day sign is probably my favorite so far. I used vinyl to stencil a pattern over the background and then used vinyl again to stencil the words on top of the pattern. Then I added molding to the top and the bottom and a wood block in the middle. You can find out how to make one for YOUR home in the tutorial. I love getting it out every year.

Fresh and Beautiful Holiday Sled Wreath

To build this DIY Sled Wreath, you’ll need 2 boxwood wreaths, two sleds, some bakers twine, scissors and ribbon to hang it.

I cut 8″ of twine then tied on the sleds with a simple double knot.

I used 2 spools of ribbon for the length of these wreaths, one on each wreath.

Witching Hour Halloween Porch Ideas

Witching Hour Halloween Porch Ideas. I love a theme. This year I really wanted to make a big sign for my Halloween porch. I thought SPOOKY would be fun but then as I was thinking about it I thought I would like to go with a witch theme.

And the piece of wood that I had sitting in my basement was very tall so I thought a longer word would work. Witching Hour was the word I ended up using. I used my cricut to cut out vinyl and make a reverse stencil. I will write up a separate tutorial on the sign and share that soon. Here is a tutorial I did for making a huge typography sign for Autumn if you want to make one in the meantime!

As I was thinking of a witch theme, I remembered the hanging witch hats I saw from Polka Dot Chair and Brooklyn Limestone. I thought they would be perfect with this witches theme. And they are so inexpensive. I found the large hats at Target for $3 and the smaller hats were $2. Here’s a 6-pack of witches hats on amazon for $5.

I hung them between the pillars on my porch. To hang the hats I used small clear command strip clear mini hooks.

I hung the hooks on the ceiling and then used thread to hang the hats. I wrapped the thread around the top of the hats and tied it and then up to the hooks and used a dab of hot glue to secure the knotted thread to the hook because it’s pretty windy where I live.

I found the 3-dimensional bats at a party store.

They are scored so you can fold the wings and come with adhesive dots. I made some bats for my cottage last year and used my cricut. Either way it’s a fun element to add to a Halloween porch!

Instead of a banner or garland above my door, this year I decided to go with party fans. This will work outside if you have a deep covered porch. I wonder if you could spray them clear polyurethane to help weather proof them.

I will keep you updated on how they do out on my porch. I hung the fans with the same Command Strip mini hooks and once they were hung, I hot glued all of the fans together to keep them more stable in the wind. Then I also used adhesive dots to hold them onto the house.

I brought out my stenciled Halloween door mat. I’m pretty impressed that it has held up so well. I love using projects I have created again in a different way.

Another project that I love is the Stacked Pumpkin Lighted Topiary I created a few years ago.

It might be my favorite Halloween project I have ever created.

I also created a funny Home Haunted Home Banner for the front door. I love that it’s a spin on a traditional wreath and a spin on the Home Sweet Home rug that I had on our front porch this summer.

And another thing I am excited about is a witches tea that I am planning for our little neighborhood. We are all going to dress up as witches and have a little party to celebrate Halloween!!

Autumn Pumpkin Wreath 

Here’s a wreath that I created — it’s super neutral and I think it’s so easy for Fall! I used pumpkins, little pine cone boughs and gold leather fabric that I cut up into leave shapes. I just love how pretty it looked on the door of the #1905Cottage!

Here’s how I made this simple wreath:

Autumn Pumpkin Wreath 

1. I found some neutral ribbon and wrapped it around a wreath form.
2. Then I layered on the pumpkins, natural wheat elements and pine cone boughs.
3. Then I hot glued some gold leather leaves onto the wreath.
4. Then I tied a little bow to the side of the pumpkins.
5. And the last thing I did was I took some natural ribbon and hung the wreath onto the door with that ribbon.

Such an easy way to make a statement!

5 Ways to Create a Pretty Fall Porch

I love decorating for fall. There’s something about this time of year that is so exciting – maybe it’s the leaves changing or the promise of the upcoming holidays. One of the things we love about our new neighborhood is the fact that everyone has a front porch. We love walking around the community and seeing all of the ways that everyone decorates their porches – especially for fall! So when BHG Live Better from Walmart asked me to create an easy way to change a small space I thought it would be exciting to create a colorful fall space on our porch!

• Create a color scheme.  There are so many colors that look beautiful for fall. This year I thought navy and orange would be a pretty combination. I also added a royal blue which is a variation on the navy color. I think the cobalt pop of color is unexpected and looks so pretty with the navy and orange.

• Add a colorful rug and/or pillows. Rugs bring color or texture to your front door. They are also practical because they keep dirt out of your home. I fell in love with this Damask Indoor/Outdoor navy and white Better Homes and Gardens rug and it seemed to be the perfect size for our front porch. The fact that it is made out of weather-resistant material makes it perfect to use outdoors. I ordered the Better Homes and Gardens pillows on Walmart.com.

5 Ways to Create a Pretty Fall Porch

• Add plants or flowers. Plants or flowers also bring color and texture to your front door or porch. This beautiful cobalt blue pot is also from the Better Homes and Gardens line at Walmart. The fact that it is a bright pop of cobalt blue adds a little unexpected element to the porch.  Another reason I love this pot is because it is resin, so it is lightweight, won’t crack and it’s durable throughout the winter months.

• Add a wreath, sign or door hanging. There is probably no better way to personalize your home and create a first impression than by creating a wreath or door hanging. I love thinking of new ways to make wreaths.

• Add light. Changing up your light fixture can really make a difference in how your front door or porch looks. I had some sconces that I was going to use in my bedroom at the #1905Cottage and I ended up going with a more modern fixture for that room. So when I moved I brought the sconces along, hoping to use them in our new home. I spray painted them white and hung them on our front porch and I love them. Another way to add light is to add some lanterns or led lights around your front door. They will illuminate your door at night, creating a more welcoming entrance, plus make it easier to see your door for guests when they come to visit! The white lantern is also from the Better Homes and Gardens line!
