Master Bedroom Accents — and a FREE printable!

I just love our new Master Bedroom — it’s my favorite place!

I’ve been adding a few more accents here and there to the room, and I’ve been looking for some unique decor elements to add. One of my favorite tricks with Shutterfly is to use not only their quality photo reproduction, but also to use their designs with graphic elements, too! (Like I did for the holiday pillow I designed for the Shutterfly by Design showcase event.)

I love the pre-made photo layouts that Shutterfly offers for their canvas wall art — all you have to do is insert your photos:

I loved the “All You Need Is Love” design, and knew it would be perfect for one spot in my master bedroom. I knew the bright colors of the letters would work with the bright colors we’d used for our photoshoot, too!

I also needed a few accent pieces, and so I chose both my favorite picture of our dog and a quick design I made — “I love us.” I have been anxious to use the curved glass photos since I saw them — and this was the perfect opportunity.

And, of course, I even used it in a frame on the wall!

Guest Project — Make a Valentine Tree of Love!!

Hello Everyone!

I am Angie from Echoes of Laughter…a stay-at-home mom of 2 who loves crafting!

I want to thank Jenn for the pleasure and honour of being a guest here on Tatertots and Jello.

I am just super peachy happy to be able to share this with you!

Here is a tutorial for a very simple ‘tree of love’
for Valentine’s Day.

I had 3 goals for this project….
I wanted to make something pretty,
something affordable,
and something that could be made in under an hour….
because we are all busy women with so much to do!

For this project, you will need:

a small flower pot or bowl

a block of floral foam

some branches about 12″ to 14″ high

{I snapped these brances from a tree in my yard…when it is -30 outside…it sure is easy to snap something!}

black letter stickers

cinnamon hearts

white school glue

miniature clothespins

and

A handful of pictures.

I chose these mini portrait pictures of my children where they were little.

First add the word ‘love’ with the black letter stickers to the pot.

Cut floral foam to fit inside the pot.{I just cut the foam with a steak knife.}

Insert the branches to make the ‘tree’.

Next, use white school glue to glue the cinnamon hearts to the base of the tree to cover the floral foam.

Let dry for a few minutes.

Next, trim and mat the small pictures with white cardstock and embellish as desired. I used dollar store Valentine stickers I already had in my stash of supplies. I also found adorable red mini clothespins at the dollar store. But plain mini clothespins would work as well, or ribbon.

Then pin your decorated photos to the branches.

Now enjoy a wonderful centerpiece for your table…

or a sweet decoration for your living room.

Guest Project — Make Simple Valentine’s Photo Art!!

Hello to everyone at Tatertots & Jello and happy Friday!

I’m Nike (that’s Neeka) from Choose To Thrive.

I’m thrilled to be sharing my
Simple Valentine’s Photo Art tutorial!

Valentine’s Day at our house has been a family event ever since kiddo #5 arrived via an emergency c-section during what would have been our Valentine’s dinner.

So when I decided to make a photo display to celebrate this holiday, I not only thought about using pictures of me and my husband, but also to all of the people I love:

… my children … in-laws … extended family.

And this project could be simpler ….

I began by inserting family pictures into a Word document and scaling them to the size I needed.

I then converted the image to black and white.

To add names, select Insert >Text Box>Simple Text Box. Make sure you select the No Fill and No Outline options so that your text will blend seamlessly over top of your pictures.

Select the font, color and size of your text and drag into position on your picture.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

(To fill my large 22″ x 28″ frame, I used 58 1.5″ x 2.5″ pictures)

I printed out several sheets of pictures on cardstock and trimmed around each photo.

For the display base, I removed the Declaration of Independence that was in the frame to start, hid it carefully from Ben Gates (ha!) and cut a piece of cardboard the same size…

… covered it with muslin and taped the raw edges to the back.

I arranged the pictures in a heart, attaching each one to the cardboard base with a photo tab.

To finish this project, the phrase “The greatest gift to LOVE and be loved in return” was cut from black and red vinyl on my Silhouette machine and applied to the glass.

(I used the fonts JSL Ancient and Blackadder ITC which are free to download.)

A quick wipe down for finger prints and that’s it:

Easy, fast, done!

I love having this new reminder of how blessed I am to be loved by my amazing family.

This year she is challenging herself to make over her 1970’s home with a budget of nothing too!! I can’t wait to see what she does!
