Good Witch Tea Party!

I know I’ve mentioned before that I love the {Happy} side of Halloween.

I’m sharing this oldie but goodie today. I am updating it because I still think it is a great party to throw for your kids! Make spooky treats, create a witch umbrella to hang on your porch or inside and celebrate the sweet side of Halloween!

Good Witch Tea Party

I had such a fun time creating this little party for my girls and their friends. I had each of the kids come dressed up as a witch. They loved getting into the theme of the party!

Create Witch Hats Centerpiece and Place Cards

We spent the week before the party making the decorations! A witch hat centerpiece and little hat place cards! We also made paper cone party favors filled with treats that hung on the back of each chair.

Make Spooky Food

Make spooky food for your witch tea party! Some foods that we created were spider web treats made from pretzels and white chocolate. The classic mummy pigs in a blanket. Chocolate cupcakes with witch-hats on top. Scroll down to the bottom of the post where I have links to all kinds of halloween-themed party food!

Activities at a Witch Tea Party

We welcomed the little witches and had them decorate cookies!

Make a Hanging Witch to Welcome Guests

It’s so easy to make this hanging witch skirt! You start with an umbrella. Then hot glue black feather boas around the edge of the umbrella. Fill stockings with bathroom tissue wadded up and tie the stockings to the umbrella spokes. Add tulle around the stockings. I added Halloween socks on top of the stockings. Then either make shoes out of black felt or tie real shoes onto the stockings! So cute!!

Decorate Your Party Table

We put the party food on a built-in cabinet. I already had a picture of the kids hanging there. I cut out little witch hats, masks and a moustache out of black paper and put them on the picture to spookify it a little. Then I added a black wreath and a little paper banner to the nook.

We even Spookified the pictures in our little Family Picture Nook for the occasion!!

And we made some Festive Halloween toothpick Flags and Treat Toppers:

Favorite Things of the Week!

This week I’m continuing my new favorite things of the week posts! Since I started blogging 12 years ago, one of my favorite things was sharing YOUR ideas! I hosted a link up party each week and I LOVED featuring the recipes, DIY ideas and crafts that were linked up!

Each week on Fridays I’m sharing projects from creative people I LOVE, plus I’m sharing some of what I’ve been working on and some cool items that I LOVE.

My Favorite Light Fixtures & Chandeliers

I’ve had so many questions about where I found my light fixtures at the #1891AvenuesCottage, I’m sharing all of my sources here!

One of my favorite projects I shared from our last house was this pretty easy DIY Wood Chandelier Tutorial. I love how the simple wood look fits into just about any room–beachy, farmhouse, you name it!

One of my favorite recent discoveries has been these Hood Classic Pendant Lights from Rejuvenation.

You can customize the finish to fit into your home perfectly–mine are finished with black enamel.

The chandelier I’ve found for my living room is this Bubbles Brass Ring Pendant Light from CB2.

It’s neutral enough to complement any room perfectly while still injecting a ton of personality, I love it!

If you’ve been following me since 2013 you might remember this tutorial for a DIY Orb Chandelier. It turns out making your own light fixtures is much easier than it seems!

This Swoop Arm Chandelier from West Elm is tying my dining room together so well lately!

I love the soft glow from the different light sources, it’s perfect for (not-so) quiet dinners with my family.

As a little teaser for my upcoming pantry and laundry room reveal, I’m going to be using these adorable Antique Industrial Sconces from Amazon for the lighting and I’m so excited about them!

For the laundry room side of the room I’ve installed these Black Finish Industrial Wall Lights from Amazon (on sale for 2 for $75 right now). This isn’t a picture from my house, but you’ll see them soon enough!

S’mores Party Ideas

You all shared so many unique and amazing ideas for S’mores Parties this week, I had to share some of my favorites!

At this point you probably all know that I can’t resist a charcuterie board. This week I’m obsessed with this S’mores Charcuterie Board from Jenny Cookies on Instagram.

I also love the idea of changing up the temperature of s’mores with these Frozen S’mores Cookie Bars over at Grandbaby Cakes. Jocelyn made them so beautiful, too… I’m so jealous of her creativity!

Sometimes there’s no beating the classics. Melissa from Best Friends for Frosting shared this classic S’mores Party she threw with her family this week, and I can’t resist throwing one of my own soon!

My fabulous sister Ashley over at Modern Glam shared this mouthwatering S’mores Dessert Board and party she threw with her adorable kids. Over on her page she shared some tips for mixing up the classic S’mores concept with Nutella, peppermint, caramel apple, and other recipes!

I printed these prints at Staples, but you can print them at any store or copy shop that prints in large scale – here are some big BBQ banners, postcards and pennants.

How to Print Giant BBQ Signs

I loved the large size banners for my BBQ signs! They’re 2 1/2 feet by 6 feet. (So, yes, ginormous. When I ordered mine, they were even on sale for $20 – check your local store for specials!)

Here’s what I did, and you can download the free printables below!

Planning for my BBQ, I knew I wanted signs for the BBQ itself – and for the food and drink stations. I also wanted little signs by the food and drink. Plus, what’s a party without pennants?

Large BBQ Banners

Let’s start by looking at the banners.

Two Style BBQ Banners

I created two styles – vertical and horizontal, both sized for the large, 2 1/2 by 6-foot banners.

I thought the vertical style would work great on the garage door, front door, front of the house, or anywhere else like that to show guests they’re in the right place.

The horizontal ones will work great in the backyard or kitchen!

I wanted to create small banners over the food and drink stations. But since the large banners were on sale for $20 – $10 cheaper than the small ones, I had them printed as the large banners.

I’ve included both sizes for you just in case you’d like the smaller banners. They’re different files because the proportions are different between the two sizes.

Free BBQ Cards

I wanted to make cards that matched the theme to label the food, salads, drinks and so on. Staples has cool postcards you can print with bright, glossy color. You only need to print on one side — which is cheaper, anyway!

Just print as many as you want, fold them in half, and write the food item in the lighter rectangle. You can print these at home, too, from the PDF.

BBQ Free Pennants

What’s a party without pennants? Often it’s cheaper — and looks better — to print your color prints at a good commercial printer like Staples than at home (and saves on ink). I printed the PDF at Staples – and they look great!

I made the letters spell out CELEBRATE and BBQ along with a blank, an exclamation point, and a few grilling implements. Mix and match however you like!

Can you even believe summer break is just around the corner?  Hi friends!  It’s Wendy Sue Anderson here today, and I am in awe, wondering how the snow has melted and flowers are blooming and the final school bell for this year will be ringing soon!  I think that calls for a party!!

Throw a Bright and Happy Summer Party

And this time, it’s all about the girls!  Of course, part of the fun of having a party is planning and decorating – so I was anxious to put Jen’s “Chasing Adventures” collection to work for me.  The floral prints and fun girl accents were just the perfect elements to decorate for the girl’s party I wanted to plan.

I started with a simple “summer” banner that was easy to whip up with my Silhouette machine and plenty of pretty papers and accents.  Isn’t that bike rider the CUTEST???

And the camera-wielding gal just makes me want to go on a vacation so I can take cute pictures!  

Sew Elements for an Added Touch

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I put my sewing machine to work on this banner too – I love adding colorful stitching to projects as a subtle little detail.

Of course, any party that’s worth having needs treats!  Cupcakes are the perfect treat – because cupcakes.

The patterned papers make cute little wraps and I added some more of the cute summer girls as cupcake toppers!

Wrap Water Bottles in Pretty Paper

Water always tastes better on a hot summer day – and if it’s been cutified and ready to sip through a fun straw, all the better!

Create Paper Party Favor Bags

Everyone knows that giving guests a fun little favor bag is just as fun as receiving gifts!

Use a Cut File to Create the Bags

These little favor bags were easy to whip up with coordinating papers and a silhouette cut file!

The tags were easily added by cutting some of the square/rectangle elements into tag shapes and tying on with colorful string.

DIY Marquee Lightbox Flower Embellishments

Do you have a marquee board?? We love ours. It’s fun to change up quotes for different days, holidays an occasions. When we went to Creativation in January, my friend Brenda Birell who owns Pebbles had dressed up our lightbox marquee board in the CUTEST way!! I was SO inspired!!

It’s SO easy to add some paper flowers to change up the look of the board. And you can also spray paint the base of the marquee board.

How CUTE is it in GOLD??? Eeeeeeek! I love it! 

So I thought it would be fun to share the easy tutorial to create DIY Marquee Board Flower Embellishments! We used my new PATIO PARTY paper line from Pebbles! You can buy it online through Pebbles in my Pocket!

We used a craft cutting machine for this tutorial. Of course if you don’t have a craft cutting machine you can hand cut out the flowers. And if you decide to do this that’s awesome! But truly my craft cutting machine has been my FAVORITE machine for the past 8 years.

How to make DIY Marquee Lightbox Flower Embellishments

Supplies:

Marquee Lightbox

Marquee Lightbox Base

Gold Spray Paint (optional)

Craft Paper (I used 6 different colors)

Craft Cutting Machine

Hot glue or glue dots

Brads

Directions:

Spray paint the base of the marquee board and let dry.

For the flowers:

You will need to download some flower files (these are from Cricut). Just go into the search and download the shape of flower you want to cut out.

Then cut out 4-5 flowers.

Note – the flowers are layered so there were probably 6 layers on each flower, which equal about 24 layers of leaves.

Once the flowers are cut out, layer them in the order you want.

Then fold the edges of the paper inward so it looks like the flower is opening.

Then put the inside of the flower in the center and add a brad to hold it all together.

I also added a little hot glue to make sure they stayed.

Once the flowers are all assembled, you can use heavy duty glue dots to attach them onto the marquee lightboard.

Add a quote to the board and light it up!

I love the idea of changing out the flowers throughout the year. It really makes your marquee lightboard stand out and become something EXTRA special!!

I love being a designer with American Crafts through their Pebbles Inc. brand. The team is amazing to work with. I love going down to the AC offices and brainstorming colors and ideas! Last Spring I was working on creating a welcoming patio at our new home and I thought it might be fun to design a line around the concept of a patio party! I love the feeling of right colors, string lights, striped lanterns, pink flamingos and yummy cakes and treats!

So we designed a line around entertaining family and friends out on the patio! We had a photo shoot for the line in September. And that was funny, making my yard into a spring paradise when we thought it could snow at any time LOL!!

I’m at the Craft and Hobby Association show this weekend showing off the line for the first time and I am THRILLED! It could be my favorite line so far! It’s so happy, colorful and it’s something that will be so fun to make DIY projects for!

You can make paper banners, signs, invitations, cards and so much more with this line!

Black and White Spring Bistro

I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I had been eyeing the Camrose Farmhouse Mosaic Table as soon as I saw it a few months ago. I love the modern design and it has hex tiles!!

I love the tiles because they remind me of my kitchen at the 1905 cottage.

I knew it would go perfectly with my black and white covered back porch.

We have loved our black and white porch ever since I transformed it last summer for one of the BHG challenges then. It was our FAVORITE place to congregate last summer. I used a BHG Live Better wood daybed and it the perfect place to read a book, take a nap or just cuddle anytime during the warm weather. We are even considering putting a patio heater out on the porch so that we can use the space year round. It’s simply our favorite.

Black and White Spring Bistro

I ordered the hex table from Walmart.com and a few days later I got an email saying the Camrose Farmhouse Mosaic Table was ready to be picked up. I hurried down, picked it up and put it together in less than 15 minutes. So easy. I also love that the table is beautiful and for under $70 – a great deal.

I also ordered a BHG Live Better galvanized outdoor clock. I love the look of the clock because it goes along perfectly with the other galvanized items that I already have, like the galvanized drink dispenser and trays. All of the BHG Live Better galvanized serving pieces are perfect because they go along with any decor, they are so neutral!

The table also looks awesome with the throw pillows that were already on our outdoor daybed.

I love the way our porch looks now. It’s done!
