16 EASY Ways to Celebrate New Year’s Eve With Kids

It’s one of my favorite traditions. I love spending the day making LOTS of appetizers, finger-foods and desserts. We play board games, video games, have a little photo booth and enjoy spending time together. Over the years I’ve compiled some of my favorite New Year’s Eve traditions, activities, food and ideas and I thought I would share it with you! Here are a few. I will share a few more tomorrow too!

One of the best part about spending New Year’s Eve at home with the family are recording the fun times. I usually make a simple photo backdrop where we can use our phones to snap a few photos. Here is an easy one with paper stars.

Everything seems a little more festive with a pretty table to display all of that delicious food! I always enjoy fresh greenery. This is an idea where I used some basic Ikea pieces and showed how to use them throughout the holidays – Thanksgiving, Christmas AND New Years. The linens and pieces are neutral so you can really use them all year long!

New Year’s Eve Tablescape 

7-Layer Dip is probably our favorite dip. Of course we love the traditional Mexican 7-layer dip, but a few years ago I experimented with an Italian dip using pesto, artichoke hearts, tomatoes and cheese and it has become one of our favorites. And everything is cuter when you make smaller sizes so we put them in glasses. To make things even EASIER use plastic, clear cups which are disposable!

Party hats are a MUST for New Year’s Eve. This is a fun idea where your guests can use chalkboard pens to write their own message on their hat. Ring in the new year with your favorite saying and record the fun in your easy photo booth.

My grandma loved baking and she was a wonderful cook! One of my favorite memories growing up was walking into her home and smelling butter and onions on the stove as she made piergois. It’s our ALWAYS traditional New Year’s Eve party food.

Last year I switched our traditional Grandma’s Pierogi idea with an Asian Twist. Now we make both recipes for New Year’s Eve!

Baked Asian Pierogis 

I had fun this year with my Instant Pot. I love how FAST you can create almost any type of food. This is a hearty buffalo chicken dip. It’s creamy, cheesy and spicy – the perfect combination in my opinion. And the best part is how easy it is to create. I even used frozen chicken breasts in this recipe and it still was done in under a half an hour.

One of the best parts of celebrating New Year’s Eve is thinking back on the past year and looking ahead. I think it’s a great tradition with kids to help them think of achievable resolutions to work on in the coming year. This is a fun way to do it!

How do You Ring in the New Year?

What do you like to do to ring in the new year? We love staying home, making lots of yummy foods and playing games together! This is the perfect party craft to celebrate New Year’s Eve in! You can make a festive glitter garland in minutes. And use it for New Year’s Eve, plus it’s great for other celebrations during the year — birthdays, anniversaries, even Valentine’s Day decor!

I always like to make a little NYE buffet table. I put the food there and decorate that space. It’s fun to have NYE crowns and hats and noise makers too! This glitter felt garland is the perfect thing to hang to celebrate.

How to Make a Glitter Felted Ball Garland

• Order 30 plain white felted balls.

• Put a skewer through the middle of each ball.
• Dip half of the ball in mod podge, then in chunky gold glitter.
• Stick the skewer in a cardboard box so it’s standing upright to dry.
• Thread the balls onto twine using a large needle.
• Enjoy!!!

I have had such a fun 2017. One of my highlights was partnering with Microsoft to create FIVE DIY holiday tutorials!! I think my favorite was the photo booth to ring in the new year!

The thing I love most about the Surface is that you can use the Surface Pen to write, draw and customize art. I took these basic images and added colors and even sparkles to create really FUN photo props. Then all I did was print them off!!

We all love the Holidays, but sometimes I get overwhelmed when it comes to hosting holiday gatherings.  So, this year I thought a Holiday Wine and Cheese Party would be a delicious, simple, and festive way to celebrate.

If you don’t happen to be a fan of wine then just grab a couple of bottle of sparkling ciders to enjoy!

New Years Eve Simple Entertaining

It was simple to bring this gathering together. . . a quick stop at the grocery store for a beautiful collection of cheese and crackers.  I also grabbed a couple bottles of wine.  My guests were happy to bring their favorite appetizers to share and a few brought bottles of wine too.  We had a lovely evening visiting with good friends without a lot of stress or work!  We enjoyed a variety of light appetizers, wines, cheeses, plus created wonderful holiday memories.

One of my favorite stores is Trader Joes, which is where most of the crackers and cheese came from in the photos.  Oh and the cute box of dark chocolates. . .  just can’t have a proper wine and cheese party with finishing the evening off with dark chocolate

I grabbed a variety of crackers: Hand Stretched Rosemary Breadsticks, Pistachio Pomegranate Crisps, Some Enchanted Mulit-grain Crackers,  and Rosemary Italian Style Crackers.  Then I stopped by the cheese section for Pesto Gouda, Cranberry Chevre, and White Stilton with Apricots.  I already had the Smoked Gouda and Mini Brie wheels at home.

Oh plus I added a jar of sweet Lemon and Fig Jelly to our cracker and cheese board.

New Years Eve Simple Entertaining

The last piece of our Holiday Wine and Cheese Party was to add a few little holiday touches. . . some flowers with cranberries in the vase, tea lights, and wine glass markers.

I glitzed up a little area on a table for everyone to write down their wishes for the year. One wish had to be for themselves, and the other had to be for someone else.

Of course, the kids’ wishes were the cutest…

I’d love to gather all the wishes and put them into a photo book with our celebratory pictures. Cute, eh?

We try to make our New Year’s Eve a family affair every year, so it’s a great way to keep track of our hopes for others in the new year. Speaking of which, I hope YOU have a wonderful year ahead of you!
