Why Choose Removable Wallpaper over Traditional Wallpaper

I love having a statement wall in our bedroom. When I moved into our Daybreak home I painted the largest wall a darker shade and it was a beautiful statement — Luxurious Master Bedroom with Paint. The color I chose was pretty dark and over time I wondered whether painting the wall a lighter shade might make the room seem bigger, but painting is a lot of time and work. For years I have known about removable wallpaper. At first it seemed that there were only a few patterns and colors to chose from. But over the last few years the removable wallpaper industry has skyrocketed.

There are so many removable wallpaper patterns to choose from!

Now there are literally thousands of wallpaper patterns and colors to choose from. I spent a long time researching different removable wallpaper companies. I met Walls Need Love a few years ago at the SNAP conference and started following them on Instagram. I love their patterns. I sent them an email to see if they would be interested in partnering with me to share a review of their wallpaper. Yay! I love working with companies I admire. Within a few days my wallpaper came.

We installed the wallpaper that night. We started after dinner and by 9 PM we were done! It was that easy.

Removable wallpaper is so easy to install

I was prepared for a few hours of having to match up the pattern and get everything straight. The amazing thing about Walls Need Love removeable wallpaper is that they take the frustrating part out. How? They manufacture the wallpaper so that it comes in different lengths and you order the one that goes best with the type of wall you are covering. The lengths are:

• 26 inches
• 52 inches
• 104 inches
• 130 inches

Tips to install removable wallpaper

I started in the middle of the wall and worked my way both ways until the whole wall was covered. You start with the first panel and a level to make sure it is straight. Then I lined the panel up about a half inch above my ceiling and peeled back about a foot of the lining, and smoothed the wallpaper down the wall while peeling the lining back. I found that it worked best for me if I kept the wallpaper very close to the wall and peeled the lining back tautly.

I have some videos that I made showing the whole process and I am working on getting them edited so I can share the whole process on my YouTube channel. The very best part is how easy it is to peel the wallpaper off if you get bubbles or folds. The material that the wallpaper is made out of is incredible. You can totally mess up and start over again and even seams can be flattened right out again.

When I began the second panel I did the same thing as the first, starting it about a half inch above the ceiling, then peeling and smoothing everything as I went down. I held the seam against the seam of the next panel so that I made sure they lined up, then I smoothed the wallpaper with my other hand toward the other seam and downward toward the floor.

The other tool that I LOVE is their utility blade. It’s so sharp and it makes trimming along the ceiling, baseboards, doorways, windows and walls so easy.

I know for a fact that the Walls Need Love removable wallpaper doesn’t damage walls. I peeled off and re-stuck the wallpaper so many times as I was getting everything straight and lined up. It was so easy to take off and put back on. The wallpaper has been on our walls for over three months and none of the edges or seams have peeled back. I am super impressed with it.

As I said before you can literally peel the Walls Need Love removable wallpaper on and off a hundred times and it will not damage your walls. It’s perfect for someone that rents. It’s also great for someone that doesn’t want to commit to paint a wall. It’s so much easier than planking or bricking a statement wall. And when you want to change up your look all you have to do is peel if off and choose a different color and pattern of removable wallpaper. It’s so fun!

How to use your leftover removable wallpaper scraps

I had quite a few leftover pieces of removable wallpaper from my project. I took them and pieced them together to wallpaper my little toilet room in my bathroom. It’s so cute! You can also use the wallpaper for other projects like wallpapering behind a cabinet, inside of a dresser, even wallpapering a box to create a special place to keep your jewelry. There are so many possibilities!

It’s so nice to have a grown-up bedroom that still has a dash of whimsy! It’s our favorite place to escape the chaos of a houseful of teens, AND my favorite place to read my books!

And I have been having a great time arranging things and decorating. I thought it might be fun to share a little sneak peek of my master bedroom.

Of course, my favorite place to be is relaxing in bed! I’ve been loving my new Yogabed mattress — more about that in a minute.

I love my little office nook!

It’s such a friendly and inviting place to sit!

The light is great in there, and it’s always so bright and cheery! I also love how the wall decor turned out:

It’s a fun mix of shapes, featuring some of my favorite quotes, sayings … and my kids!

One reason the light is so good is the skylights … I love how they bring the outside in!

While we were building the addition, I knew I’d want light by the side of my bed, so I made sure to wire electrical and switches for wall sconces!

I put in dimmer switches so I can adjust the light to read comfortably!

Possibly my favorite thing in the whole room is the ceiling light. I wanted something that didn’t hang too low and was close to to the ceiling, but had the look of a chandelier. I love it!

And thanks to the folks at Yogabed, I’ve been enjoying an awesome Yogabed mattress.

It’s hard for me to find one that I like — the regular memory foam ones are too soft, and sometimes even a pillow top is too firm. I don’t know what the secret ingredient is in this Yogabed mattress, but it’s just right! (Makes me feel like Goldilocks!)

The past 30 days have FLOWN by as I have been working hard to complete our Master Bedroom Makeover for the Jo-Ann and HGTV HOME Magic with Fabric & Trim challenge. It’s been a whirlwind of activity, but SO much fun too!!! I have loved seeing my room transform every day into something new.

You see, with three teenagers in the house, sometimes things get a little LOUD and CRAZY around here. I wanted to make a space that was is a peaceful retreat for my husband and I. So we kept the bed in the same place, but we added a little office nook and also a little place where we can relax and read a book. Now we have a room which is so calm and pretty and useful!

It’s my favorite room in the house. I wake up in the morning and want to spend the morning checking email and working at the little office nook.

Here’s what the room looked like before – kind of dark and dreary.

One of my favorite projects I created was different slipcovers for the headboard. So I can switch them out during the year.

My husband and I also made the Board and Batten wall which I think really brightened up the room. A tutorial will be coming up with some tips to save you time if you want to do this in YOUR home! And we also made a DIY Knock Off ZGallerie/Restoration Orb Chandelier!

I also learned how to make corded pillows – which weren’t as hard as I had imagined! And I made a striped duvet cover, using two of the HGTV fabrics and cording around that too!

Another favorite part of the room is the gallery wall with pictures of our family. I mounted the pictures on HGTV Fabric and framed them to hang on the wall.

We also made a X-Bench for the end of our bed. A tutorial will be coming up soon!

 We turned a nook in the room which we never used into a bright and useful office area.

Now this is my favorite place to sit in the mornings. Our home also overlooks my kids’ elementary school so I can see the kids playing as I work and the mountain views!

 I also painted and upholstered this oversized chair for the space! I love how the fabric ties in with the table and rug in the space.

I also made some no-sew curtains for the nook! I used the pre-ruffled trim from the HGTV Home Magic Line on the curtains and Stitch Witchery to hold the seams and the trim onto the curtains! A tutorial will be coming up on how to make these.

And the third part of the room is a little corner which I never knew what to do with. We decided to turn it into a little lounging area where we can read a book or just relax.

Shelley from House of Smiths helped me put up this Herringbone Wall for the space! Isn’t it cool? I’ll be sharing more details about how to create this wall on Monday. You can check out the vinyl in her shop.

I love laying on this little settee with the door to our deck open in the evenings. It’s a great place to unwind and my husband loves taking Sunday naps here. Our dog has decided that this is the comfiest place in the house – ha!

So when Jo-Ann contacted me about making over a room in my home with their new line of fabric and trim available at Jo-Ann stores, I knew exactly the room I had in mind!! It was the motivation I needed to kickstart this room makeover.

I am SO excited about the Jo-Ann and HGTV HOME Magic with Fabric & Trim challenge.

Here’s a preview of some of the fabrics I’ll be using on the project. Aren’t they beautiful?? I plan on keeping the overall palette white and grey – with some bright pops of color.  Of course I had to stay true to the bright and happy colors that I love.

Here’s how the challenge will work:

Mine is my master bedroom. I’ve been trying to figure out this space for THREE years.

This is what it looked like a few years ago.

I think the main problem was a couch that my husband was very attached to. It has lived in my bedroom for the past few years, but I found a new place for it. And having the couch out of my room has really opened up the space.

I have all kinds of new ideas and can’t wait to get started on transforming the space. And my friend Jamielyn from I Heart Naptime has created a new site that is perfect for seeing how spaces or projects will look. It’s called The Inspiration Board!

You can take pictures that you love and compile them in The Inspiration Board.

Its a great way to see a project with all of the elements all together! Here’s my little Inspiration Board I made for my Master Bedroom Redo:

What did we do before Pinterest came into our lives? I am a visual person and I love that I can create a board there with ideas for a room and that room comes to life for me.

I did that for my Kitchen Redmodel and even though I came up with my own style and projects for the space, having that visual board as inspiration really sparked my creativity.

I know I have mentioned my Master Bedroom dilemma quite a few times in the two years since I’ve been working on the space. So I thought it would be helpful to create a pinboard for that room, in the hopes that I can get a plan for it and finish it!

Creating a pinboard for that space really has helped me visualize the projects I want to tackle to create  my Dream Bedroom.
